turning off the preview pane in kmail

Does anyone know how to do it? I can drag it all the way down so that it does not show but I'm assuming that it is still active and opening everything I click on automatically. Or am I wrong? I'm just assuming that the preview pane poses the same inherent risks that it does in Outlook. KDE 3.2 and Linux security

Hello! A few days ago I executed an update to KDE 3.2 on my 9.0 Linux system by using the SuSE yast-sources. Everything went very well, but when I played a little with the KDE control center, I noticed a horrible effect: Suddenly every user was able to launch YaST without the need of typing in the root password. I thought there was something I had done wrong while installing KDE, but when I called SuSE hotline, I was told not to update to KDE 3.2 because of all the security und stability risks that come with it on SuSE. Instead of updating SuSE, I was suggested to use Debian or Gentoo with KDE 3.2 instead. Does anyone here recognize these problems? Greetings, Kai Fanslau

Turning off spellcheck in Konqueror

How can I turn off the spellchecking in Konqueror? The settings include a way to configure spellcheck but I can't find anything for turning it off. Paul Abrahams

Installing search database in KDE 3.2

After upgrading (?) to KDE 3.2, I discovered that the search function no longer worked in KDE Help. On further investigation I found that I needed to rebuild the search index. I do have htdig installed. But what are the right values for the three items in the "Build Search Index" page: htsearch: Indexer: htdig database (defaults to /opt/www/htdig/db, which doesn't exist) Shouldn't all this have happened automatically anyway, as it did when I first installed 9.0? Tiny font in Google under 3.2

After installing KDE 3.2 I discovered that Konqueror displays the Google webpage in a tiny font (which I've seen in other places also). It wasn't that way in 3.1. I can force enlargement of the font temporarily using Konqueror's view menu but that's not a good solution for many reasons. How can I convince Konqueror to display the page correctly? Paul Abrahams

A question to SuSE employees

While I was downloading 3.2, I looked at the README and we are given to understand that installing 3.2 will cause us problems when SuSE 9.1 comes out. When is this likely to be? For kde-3.2.0 on suse-8.2, arts-1.2.0 is needed to satisfy kdelibs3: kde/base> rpm -qp --requires kdelibs3-3.2.0-2.i586.rpm | grep arts arts >= 1.2.0 The latest available version is: ./base/arts-1.1.95-1.i586.rpm Any possibility that arts-1.2 will be provided via ftp.suse.com for suse-8.2? -- TIA Richard

KDE 3.2 and suseplugger

Hi, after installing KDE 3.2 final from ftp.kde.org, suseplugger stopped working. CDRDAO and K3b

Hi. Anyone know how to set IDE-SCSI with CDRDAO ver 1.1.7-33? Alternatively, anyone know where I can find a release of CDRDAO for SuSE 8.2 that is more recent than ver 1.1.7-33? I would prefer RPM if possible. Thanks Mike

KDE 3.1.95 from the Supplementary Feed

Has anyone tried KDE 3.1.95 from the SuSE Supplementary feed and got it working correctly? (I have used this mirror: ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/ i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.0/ ) I added ftp://ftp.mirror.ac.uk/sites/ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/ KDE/update_for_9.0/yast-source as an installation source in Yast and then did a System Update. After resolving the conflicts as mentioned previously on this list I rebooted. It didn't seem to have installed all the KDE 3.2 stuff. So, again with yast, I uninstalled all the KDE and QT packages and reinstalled them, still using the supplementary feed. This seemed to install everything, except the KDE themes didn't seem to be working and all letters on menu items with an underscore had a green background. Now I have disabled the supplementary feed as an installation source and gone back to KDE 3.1.4 and everything seems ok. Has anyone else had much luck with this? I eventually corrupted my previous SuSE 8.1 installation by installing and forcing upgrades of packages outside of Yast, so I did a clean install of SuSE 9.0 and want to keep it clean and stick to official SuSE packages installed with Yast as much as possible.
