[opensuse-kde] Delay when switching between applications on plasma-desktop

Hi everyone, I observe a somewhat strange behaviour of my plasma desktop: When I try to switch between applications (say Dolphin and Firefox) I have to sustain a delay of several seconds on my desktop pc. It is definitely not a hardware issue, because my machine is about six months old (Six-Core AMD FX-6200 with 3800MHz, 8GiB Memory, 12 GiB swap space on a 1.5TB SATA-disk), further the behaviour does not occur on my notebook, which has much less perfoming hardware. The behaviour does not occur from the beginning, but later on, I suspect after the screen-saver has been called for the first time. However the effect is reproducible. I used the KDE system monitor for diagnosis. I found out that when this occurs, one of the six CPUs is always at 100%. The responsible process is obviously plasma-desktop, which is always at 17% CPU. The effect occurs only when trying to switch applications using the mouse on the "Startleiste", ALT+TAB works like it should. I am willing to provide more detailed information, but I need some help from developers, how to do that. Finally some informations on my system: OpenSuSE 12.3, x86_64, fully updated from the communitiy repos. KDE 4.10 kdebase4-workspace-4.10.0-1.8.1.x86_64 (where plasma-desktop belongs to) Kernel: 3.7.10-1.1-desktop #1 SMP PREEMPT Thu Feb 28 15:06:29 UTC 2013 (82d3f21) x86_64. Any help is appreciated. [opensuse-kde] Kile and brackets

Hi all, I have just installed oS 12.3 fully updated but I have found a different behaviour of Kile wrt brackets. Until oS 12.2, I was able to select a piece of text and then, by pressing ( or {, the text was put inside () or {}, respectively. For instance, if I selected ax+b and pressed (, the resulting text was (ax+b). The current behaviour is to replace the selected text with the bracket. Since I am still using the same configuration for kile, probably this changed behaviour depends on the new version of KDE (since the changelog of kile does not mention a change for this, and if I install kile 2.1.2 from oS 12.2, I still face the new behaviour), do you know I can restore the old behaviour? [opensuse-kde] KDE4.11 and Qt5?

Hi folks Has someone already tried building KDE4.11 against libqt5? Because obviously the developers of KDE are quiet far already in porting the kdelibs so that it will build with the new Qt-API. It would be neat to have Qt5 instead of Qt4 because 4 doesn't contain official multitouch support for X11. So if we could make KDE building with Qt5 it would not only accelerate the rendering speed of KDE on my TF201 but would also provide upstream support for multitouch which would in turn make my own Multitouch project at the OBS redundant. best regards David

[opensuse-kde] hyperlinks in notifications?

It seems hyperlinks in notifications stopped working in openSUSE 12.3 KDE. The link text shows up as underlined, but clicking it does nothing. [opensuse-kde] Problems with ksnapshot

Hello, the ksnapshot-window won't go to the background after I click on new foto if delay is set to none. This happens on my laptop with openSuSE 12.2 and *4.10.2 "release 556" from K:R. If I set a value of one second or greater, it works normally. Some modi work fine, but those in which i mark an area are showing that problem. Heya, I noticed the pattern kde-klyde depends on kdebase4-workspace-branding- openSUSE instead of kdebase4-workspace-branding-klyde, why is that? You need the klyde one to have the klyde configuration ;-) /J

Hi guys, some thoughts after reading the post on the planet.. * Startup time and memory footprint, the main point is here ! Load less, start fast. I don't know what can be done but these things are the most important.. * System settings, needs some love. All look & feel page should be groupped. Please, don't hide/remove options. There's no a real issue here, IMHO.. Oh, what about Kdm ? LightDm could help a lot. Some features are missing but I'm sure that for a lot of people is more than enough.. Don't start klipper by default. Who really know (newbie POV) what is for ? Cleanup krunner. [opensuse-kde] pyside vs. pyqt requires

It looks like there is a push underway to get more support for pyside, and a number of python packages now support both. I think we are getting to the point where we need some way for packages to specify that they need either pyqt or pyside, but not necessarily both.
