I did that and recognized that the link .Xresources -> .Xdefaults was owned by root,
also group root. But could that possibly crash the whole system?
Funny thing is that it really does not happen as root, but only as a normal user.
So if anyone has any other recommendations, I'd be very very happy...
Thanx in advance,
Sebastian

I have SuSE 8.0 successfully installed on my office PC ...
a windows-free machine to make a point.
Konqueror and Everybuddy function fine, or at least they
do after running YaST2 update.
KMail is still not functioning properly.
The office network is DHCP through a 56k modem ... soon to
be upgraded to a T1 line ... hooray!
The manual has been no help. Any suggestions as to where I
might start looking, please?
Thanks! doc
Vanilla 7.3 installation.
Kde loads and then freezes just before desktop icons appear. Mouse is still
available. No response from right click on desktop. Panel icons wash out with
mouse over but no action when pushed. No response from ctrl-alt-backspace,
ctrl-alt-del, or ctrl-alt-f*. Power recycle is the only option.
The box is 350 miles away, used by my 83 year old mom, and I am trying to
recover her system for her by phone.
Any obvious places to begin? I can give her root access and talk her through
things but can't ssh to it yet.

Is there any JavaScript/ECMAscript method, equivalent to Navigator's
navigator.mimeTypes array, which can be used to check if a certain mimeType
is "known" to Konqueror?
(The goal: To make a web page which checks for Java Web Start being installed

this for IE and Navigator.)

For some reason my Kmail started generating an error message when I try
to send.
Error 127 on execution.
It still receives fine, but the outbox just builds up. Any ideas?

I've just spent three weeks configuring, and tracking down problems, and at
this point I 've got to wave off those with production systems.
KMail is ignoring changes to its config file, and its GPG is not compatible
with Windows; Junkbuster doesn't bust junk; Postfix isn't delivering mail;
ext3 is slow; Konqsu can't right-click|Edit files; root Panel has forgotten
all its contents; this list is dead; permissions scattered throughout the
filesystem are wrong; KAlarm doesn't alarm; my AlpsMD5000 still doesn't work
in Cups; and ten other significant problems that I'm too frustrated to list
here.
I have all the updates. And I'm running K3.0.1 . All the above apps run...
but they don't work, for a hundred different reasons that I just don't have
time to investigate.
8 is not ready. Beware.

Hi all,
Does anybody knows where SuSE men stores no KDE applications? I have lots of
entry in the suse menu that I don't use at all (like all the X... programs)
and I'd like to get rid of them. I managed to find where SuSE menu stores KDE
applications entries so that I could orgaize them (etc/opt/kde3/share/applnk
and etx/X11/susewm/AddEntrys) but no KDE applications aren't stored there.
Where are stored? Any idea ?
Chau,
Ale.

Hi Everybody,
there are some questions open in my moving from Outlook to Kmail:
1. use of arrow keys in email list
currently the arrow keys are only active in the bottom frame showing the
contents of the highlighted mail.
I would like to page through the list of emails using the keys. Is that
possible and if yes, what do I have to do? Tab does not work.
2. KMail and offline use
Is it possible to start KMail in offline modus, so that I do not get this
error message after some time, when I send in email into the outbox?
3. It would be nice to have Reply/send buttons together with the opened mail.
Does anybody know, whether this is planned?
4. close email window with Escape?
(Yes, I do come from outlook and do not wnat to use the mouse everytime I
want to close the window)
5. data import/export:
As I try to find a way to export data from my Nokia Communicator into Kmail,
I looked at the data import/export functionality. However the numer of fields
and the sorting of the fields seem to be a problem.
Does anybody have experience with import of CSV files into specific fields in
Kamil?
Thanks for your help.
Regards

And.... Yes, as so many others,
dcopserver is refusing to let me start kde3
Before (7.3 with kde 2) all was fine.
I tried everything i saw in the archives of this newsgroup.
Nothing helps.
So, i have to work with Gnome (works like a charm)
or Windowmaker (also ok) or so..
Now, i dont know if any developres of KDE are reading into
this newsgroup (they should ;-)), but i think it's obvious that
the system with the dcopserver stinks!
There's no real doc, nobody understands really what to do,
no help - nothing.
A bit difficult in that situation to stay with an otherwise
great piece of software. Well, i'l wait an other week or so
to see if someone has an idea (i don't anymore), and if not
i'll switch over.
