Hi.
I did a fresh Tumbleweed installation recently and TBH I find the selections of
default packages less than ideal. I hope you'll find my suggestions helpful:
The "worst offender" IMO is that by default there are four (!) different ways
exposed to the user via K_Menu icons to add and configure printers:
system-config-printer, CUPS icon to launch the web interface, YaST,
and KDE System Settings.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwhPBqc5eehzZG11VmNqcXJlM2Mhttps://drive.google.com/open?id=0BwhPBqc5eehzY3pzVEFzZUk1S0E
(the rendering error in system-config-printer's menu don't make it better)
There are also a bunch of applications that cover rather specific niche cases:
hugin - Stitching panoramas
kruler - Count pixels
kompare - Compare files
konqueror - Two browsers are overkill. Konqueror is also behind in web
technologies; plus you don't seem to track https://github.com/annulen/webkit
to ship bug fixes.
konversation - IRC is nice but the general public doesn't use it.
libqt5-linguist and libQt5Designer5 - For developers only. The latter because
of a weird dependency.
Several *-32bit are also installed in TW 64bit but that has probably nothing
to do with KDE software (didn't check the dependency tree, though).
In addition I propose those packages to include in the default installation:
discover - More approachable than YaST
plasma5-session-wayland - For Plasma 5.6 or 5.7. Install only, not default
yet.
noto-emoji-fonts & noto-sans-symbols-fonts - Emoji and Dingbats are the norm
nowadays. They shouldn't show up as placeholder boxes.
Bye
– Markus

In not one of my openSUSE Plasma5 installations do I ever get to see seconds
in the digital clock in the taskbar/panel, even though I've selected show
seconds in every case.
Does this not bother anyone else? I have yet to encounter this problem in any
Fedora installation. What's the trick required to see seconds in TW's Plasma?

Hi,
On my TW machine, since a couple of weeks, akonadi behaves badly after
resuming from suspend.
Most of the times I have two akonadi instances using each one about
one CPU, plus there is some mysql instance, related to akonadi, that
eats some extra 30 or 40% of cpus.
This slows down the computer very much. Usually "akonadictl restart"
fixes the problem.
I've looked on google for some more info, but I haven't found anything.
I use kmail with only me work emain via imaps
Plus I did connect my google address book to KAdressBook (I would like
to remove it, but I can't find where)
If relevant, I use telepathy with Hangout.
Is there a place with some log I can check or something like this or a
workaround?
Ciao,
Francesco

Hello,
I sure would appreciate any suggestions with this problem.
I (finally!) upgraded my 13.1 workstation to 13.2, including all updates.
Before the update, I would occasionally get the folder lock up problem caused
by the akonadi server (once or twice every couple days) that requires the
server to be restarted (or log out/log in). IIRC this was a known issue. I
hoped it was fixed with the 13.2 release. (I checked the kde akonadi wiki but
no help there.)
Following my 13.2 upgrade, the problem has become much, much worse.
Repeatedly when I click on a message in a folder (read or unread), the folder
locks and I get the green Kmail wait screen. At least in the past the
condition would sometimes correct itself after a while and free the folder;
not any longer, I am now forced to restart the server every time.
When I do the server restart, I always get about 50 error messages in the
mysql error log. These look like the errors I got in the past each time I
would restart, but I can't be sure (I didn't keep the old logs).
Fwiw, the log errors look like this:
160421 15:08:48 [ERROR] Can't open and lock privilege tables: Table
'mysql.servers' doesn't exist
160421 15:08:48 [Warning] Can't open and lock time zone table: Table

.
.
. followed by another ~45 of the same "Native table 'performance

Any suggested solution or workaround? I would hate to have to switch to
another client after using Kmail for >dozen years, but this constant akonadi
problem has become intolerable.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,
Can anyone tell me why baloo_file works so hard (I'm using an Intel core i7
and some times my PC freezes temporarily) when Chrome it's also running? Does
baloo is indexing the temporary files of Chrome?
Regards

I don't know this model, but I have always found cheap home routers too
unreliable. If You are *sure* it is good model with good firewall, then OK...

After upgrade to 16.04 KDE PIM doesn't work at all. Commonly, I log in
and KMail is fetching the mails (I see number of new messages in the
tray icon). But when I open KMail window, it says there is problem with
running Akonadi. I can only click to details (it doesn't do anything), I
can do nothing in the application. Similarly, KOrganizer is showing
reminders, but when I open it, it says there is problem with running
Akonadi and I can't do anything. Same situation is in KAddressBook.
weird id that 'akonadictl status' reports Akonadi as running without any
problem and start/stop/restart do nothing. And more, sometimes when I
log in into KDE, it works as expected.
I was thinking about some version mismatch or missing package, but I
can't find any such case...
Any idea how to fix it?

If you run Plasma 5.6.x with multi-screen, you risk trouble. Esp if you have a setup like I do: one screen vertical and one horizontal. You'll get a totally screwed up desktop/window management.
Work-around: let the panels auto-hide or allow windows to go under/over them.
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=361551 for the problem I reported and some work arounds and comments.
Solution: wait until Qt 5.6.1 is out, I suppose... But plasma 5.6.3 should already deal better so that might be good enough.
On a personal note, once Qt 5.6.1 is in I'll move over my workstation to Tumbleweed. I hope things settle down on the KDE front, it's been disastrous lately with multi screen stuff :(

Hi there,
I have one annoying issue...
Using 42.1 with current updates (that means Plasma 5.5.5) my plasmoids
on the desktop are messed when I do a fresh KDE log in.
I have places some widgets / plasmoids on the desktop that show system
information like temperature, CPU usage etc.
Whenever plasma crashes or I do a new login, the plasmoids are messed
and not at their place any more...
When I placed the plasmoids I have locked everything, but that does not
seem to help protecting their position on the desktop....
Any ideas about that?
Thanx!
