Hello all,
Just received my copy of SuSE 9.2 Pro and completed a clean install on my
Toshiba Satellite 2435 laptop. For whatever reason, the laptop's touchpad was
not detected/installed correctly. Using the laptop has become extremely
difficult. The mouse opens *almost* every window and app that it trails over
and hardware clicking/tapping doesn't work. I don't recall what driver I've
used in the past with SuSE and this laptop--truth is, I never looked.
Currently I'm using the generic PS/2 Mouse (Aux-Port) driver as indicated in
the Hardware section of YaST's Control Center and the touchpad is somewhat
functional, albeit with irritating side effects. With previous versions of
SuSE the touchpad was detected/configured correctly and without my
intervention. Anyone using SuSE 9.2 with a similar machine?
Searches on SuSE's Support Portal turned up zero articles related to ALPS
Touchpad devices.
This is a snippet of dmesg, related to the mouse/touchpad:

Hello all,
I've this weird problem with my SUSE 9.1 pro. Every now and then when I log
out KDE it freezes. The computer is so dead that I can't even do anything and
I have to restart it. I'm not sure where I must start to debug it. I couldn't
find uot anything wrong in /var/log/messages just before the freezing.I
have a samba server 3.0.9-2.6 on it but apart from that I'm not doing any
kind of networking. I have installed all the pathces via YaST but see no
Difference. I would be grateful if somebody could shed light on it.
regards
Hamid

QOTD:
"I only touch base with reality on an as-needed basis!"
I tried to upgrade via apt to the new amarok package in Pascal
Bleser's repository, but apt refuses to install it.
I then tried to compile the source RPM, but I get a dependency
error---glx is needed.
"apt search glx" lists packages containing/providing glx, and I have
all the relevant xorg packages installed.
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance.
Hello list,
I'd like to display only specific device icons on the desktop. The usual way
to activate the device icons is
right click -> Configure Desktop -> Behaviour -> Show Device Icons.
That work's fine.
Now I would like to enable only specific devices to be shown on the desktop,
eg. if one enables show mounted partitions is there a way to choose the
partition which should be displayed?
And if so, can one also change the name which is displayed on the desktop?
Thanks for any hints.

Hi all,
Yesterday, without doing anything special, the KDE panel stopped working.
It is nowhere to be found, although 'ps aux' shows that kicker is running.
Killing the process and restarting it gives the following warning (not an
actual crash, but effectively one :) )
kicker: WARNING: cannot open extension: because of Library files for ".la"
not found in paths.
I don't remember changing anything in the paths.
Using SuSE 9.2, KDE 3.3.92 from cvs.
I have tried recompiling kdebase etc, but the problem seems to be persisting,
and is not a problem of the specific user, since root sees the exact same
thing.
Does anyone else see this and know what to do?
Otherwise, everything seems to be working fine with KDE.
Thank you,
Chris
OK, first some background... Suse pro 9.2, apt-get kept up to date with the
following config:
rpm ftp://mirrors.mathematik.uni-bielefeld.de/pub/linux/suse/apt/
SuSE/9.2-i386 base update security rpmkeys suser-rbos mozilla kde packman
packman-i686
First, thanks to everyone involved. SuSE 9.2 was my first SuSE version from
a Slackware background. Very nice and I appreciate the ability to run
updated software via the supplementary stuff. Great!
Currently with Juk (2.1.2 on KDE 3.3.2 Level "a") I cannot play, import MP3's.
Juk doesn't even see them in its filebrowser. I can play them fine with
Amarok. Am I alone here?
On Amarok, how can I save a playlist properly? When I do the links to the
files always append together ala:
This file does not
exist: /home/mcolligan/.kde/share/apps/amarok/playlists//media/usb-100:0:0:0p1/MyMusic/Vic_Chesnutt_Left_To_His_Own_Devices_2_Very_Friendly_Lighthouses.mp3
Thanks,
Mike
I updated my KDE to the latest on SUSE's ftp site.
Including amaroK 1.2.
Everything generally is running fine, except amaroK.
It will start up OK, I can set a playlist and start it
playing. It will play for a while (2-3 minutes) and
then quit. The playlist window freezes, and is totally
unresponsive. Rebooting does not help.
Anybody seeing similiar behavior? Any advice?
Thanks
Situation: I have configured a laser printer and works find, can send
print jobs and manage them with cups' web interface. I would like to
use kjobviewer to manage print jobs and spools, but it doens't show
jobs, current or past (they are shown in the web interface), just
shows the empty screen and greyed buttons. Played already but all the
menus and can't find something to make it work.
Distro: Suse Pro 8.2
KDE: 3.1.1
PS: Realy never used the GUI, now i'm interested because of the
advanced spool management
Thanks in advance

Hi!
I'm a developper of the Krusader team (the twin panel file manager, Total
Commander clone) on linux.
Personally I also use SuSE linux, and noticed, that our program is not in the
standard distribution. Krusader 1.11 was the last version included at SuSE
8.0, and after that it was removed.
Total Commander is very popular in windows, and I think, it would be
reasonable to include the linux clone as well. We have great many users,
and the project is developping rapidly.
My question is, that what was the main reason of removing Krusader?
What should we do to get into the standard SuSE distribution?
What requirements should we meet for this?
Thank you, in advance,
Bye,
Csaba Karai
