Hi
I was using KDE 3.1.1 on my SuSE 8.1 box installed from the KDE.org and
everything was OK. This morning I decided to upgrade the KDE packages to
those available on SuSE's homepage. The installation (rpm -Fvh *.rpm) was OK,
but now konqueror does not display anymore some web pages like www.suse.de.
I remember that I had this problem also before using the packages from the
KDE.org site, could somebody give me a hint to what is the problem here?
Some bugs in SuSE's packages? Did someone else noticed this?
Hello together
I have here a very nasty little daemon, that always shows up in my Kicker
(where the littel icons like for Licq etc, show up).
Doesn't matter how often I turn this thing off, it always comes back.
Something in Kbear is broken (it won't start) and propably there is the
option to turn this off. As I don't need Kbear I never tryed to make it run.
Anyone an idea how I get rid of this little pain.
Thx
Andi

Bomb Texas! They too have oil.
After updating kde (to 3.1.1-33) through apt yesterday / today I noticed the
look of kde changed. So I went to check if liquid was still selected in
Control Center > Appearance > Style, and most of the style choices have
disappeared. All that's there are the qt styles.
Anyone else have this problem?
I also noticed that in kmail under the folder properties there is no longer a
way to control which folder a subfolder belongs to. The pull down menu only
has top level as a choice. (kde network-mail 3.1.1-35)
Any ideas on how to get the styles back? I assume they are still there but not
showing up in the list. I ran SuSEconfig but they still didn't show up.
Also any ideas about the kmail folder properties fiasco? I had to re-enter
that my suse-kde folder contains a mailing list, and the folder jumped out of
it's subfolder. My organized kmail will soon be chaos.

As my signature has been recieving the desired response I've formulated
a standardized response which follows. The bottom line though is poor
customer service in regards to damaged products. GoogleGears policy in
a nutshell, "When in doubt blame the customer" :-(
Here's my sad story ;
I purchased $700.00 worth of equipment over a 2 day period from them.
The parts arrived quite promptly and I was very happy.
2 days later while preparing to install the motherboard they had shipped
me I noticed a small "grunge/burn" in one corner (over time this grunge
has become quite large in my mind :-O, this grunge/burn had to have
been created by a rather large arc as far as I can tell.
I RMA'd the motherboard and sent it back to them. Things slowed down at
this point, eventually they shipped the board back to me and stated
that they would not replace the board as it was damaged :-0
I will never buy from Googlegear again! Speed of shipping was excellent,
but if heaven forbid you recieve some DOA parts then your money is
gone. I'm out $120.00 (us) (more than 10% of the total project cost)
and my time, as well as being hesitant to ever shop online again.
Since I have been using this sig I have recieved mail from
others w/ nearly identical experiences.
Had all the parts I wanted been available locally (within 50 miles) I
would have probably bought locally. The savings (had there been any) of
buying on line would have been less than $100, this does not take into
account the expense of a replacement motherboard or return shipping for
the dead mb.
My suggestion - buy locally if you can. If you buy online then treat it
like gambling, only spend as much as you are willing to lose.

Hi,
after inserting an Audio(Music) CD into the cdrom/cdrecorder device, I can not
access audio:/ with konquerer. Everything is enabled and should work. (E.g.
'Grip' works very fine for ripping). In the control center I teste both:
auto-detect and fixed to /dev/cdrom.
Both result in the same error when clicking onto 'Audio-CD-Browser':
(tranlated from german)
Failed to load 'audio:/': File or directory '/' does not exist.
This is on SuSE 8.1, KDE 3.1.0, kernel SuSE 2.4.19
What can I do?
Besides an other question: these mixed music/data cds mount fine with mount -t
iso9660 ... or with filesys set to 'iso9660' in fstab. But filesys 'auto'
does not work, error message is:
blitz-lx:/etc # mount /media/cdrecorder
/dev/cdrecorder: Input/output error
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
I am not sure if this the same with pure data cdroms (don't have one here).
Is there a solution (kernel update?).

Hi!
I'm using SuSE8.1 professional and the version of KDE that came with this
distribution followed by an online update with YAST. Consequently, most of
the KDE modules are version 3.0.4. The whole system is very stable. At the
moment it has been up for 41 days and during that time I've installed and
uninstalled lots of things with absolutely no problems. I am particularly
pleased about this stability as I have of recent times moved over from
win98SE. I want to be a user of the programs that run under linux rather than
spending my time tinkering with the innards of linux - although in the last 3
months I've done quite a bit of that. I want a stable, secure system that
enables me to work more productively. Newer versions of KDE and other
programs are appearing very frequently but I've noticed that many people seem
to have teething problems with the newer versions. Although I would like to
have access to a number of the new features in KDE3.1 and 3.11 will I be
risking my new found stablity if I upgrade?
I guess my questions are:
1) If I want to keep the stablity should I wait and upgrade the distribution
which will include the lastest version of KDE?
2) If its thought that it is safe to upgrade to 3.1 then what is the
recommended method/route?
3) Given that it is OK to upgrade should I upgrade to KDE3.1 and then upgrade
to 3.11 or can one jump from 3.0.4 to 3.11?
Any thoughts, comments, or answers will be gratefully received.

This has to do with an option that usually is available the first time
you log in to a new account (during the "Welcome" dialog). After that
it is really hard to ever find the option again; and no I don't know
where to find the option any more :-(

Did you try right clicking on the kicker and
Add -->SpecialButton -->K Menu
If it works then you can just remove the menu you no longer want
afterwards.
Let us know how things work out.

I went up through installing the RPMs manually myself (I'm on SuSE 7.2), and
I didn't notice it at the time, because I use keramik, but having checked,
the liquid style no longer appears in the list for me, either. All the
files (e.g. /opt/kde3/lib/kde3/plugins/styles/liquid.{so,la}) seem to be
there.

And again, I'd not noticed, because I only use one level of folder, but
that's the same for me too.

(I may seem like I'm starting to pick on incredimail, really thats not
my intention but It wouldn't be immediately obvious to someone just
reading your message which parts are a quote from me and which are your
reply.
Of course I'm sure as soon as you get kmail setup and working things
will be much better <GRIN>)

Unfortunately my understanding of linux doesn't really go to backtracing
crashes etc, It does sound from your previous mail that you still may
have system instabilities (you mentioned a crash when sending a mail I
think).
There is a shell command that you can use to tell you what programs are
in an rpm package, unfortunately I'm not sure what it is.
The error you recieved basically tells me that konqueror crashed.
Usually, in this particular case I just try running konq again. If
there is nothing really wrong then you should be able to work as
normal. (currently I get 1 or 2 crashes from konq in a couple day
period, without it affecting my faith in the system.)
Curtis's suggestions about using the shell "konsole" were really good,
if konqueror is crashing on you regularly then opening a terminal
window and running konqueror from there would probably be the easiest
way for you to get the info that the list needs to be able to help you.
My new question for you is does konqueror crash every time you use it?
Being that konq is such a key component of kde this would be one of the
first things to fix unless you just prefer to switch windowmanagers (or
use nautilus or another file manager, but that leaves you with
unanswered questions about the source of your problem)
I installed z88 and looked at what files were "program files" but this
type of program is totally out of my experience (Dammit Jim, I'm a
Carpenter, not a Mathematician ;-)
z88 has numerous "program files" which exist in the
/usr/X11R6/bin/ directory (remember also linux is case sensitive)
but I don't have a clue which are meant for user interaction.
Sorry I can't be more help.

Hi,
I installed all rpm's from kde.org for kde 3.1.1 for SuSE 8.1, and kooka and
kinternet are not there.
Did I do something wrong, or are they really missing?
While I prefer kppp, there are things only kinternet can handle, such as
different devices with different configurations for each
connection/providers. kppp has just one device configuration which is uses
for all providers.
