[opensuse-kde] [tumbleweed] kde/plasma/wayland: Primary Selection Protocol (middle-mouse to paste)

Hi, after I tried KDE/Plasma/Wayland on Debian/testing AMD64 I inspired my colleague Joop Boonen to test it on OpenSuse/tumbleweed. Everything was fine besides Primary Selection (middle-mouse to paste), so I stopped using Plasma/Wayland. Joop is able to use primary selection in every application (KDE or GTK). So, I was surprised. Here on KDE/Plasma 5.12.5 I cannot do that (for example cut-n-paste in konsole via middle-mouse paste into firefox). I asked on the wayland-devel ML [1] with no answer. The retired KWin maintainer wanted to have this feature in wayland-protocols before implementing it in KWin/Plasma/Wayland. So, what magic did you do in OpenSuse? The Gnome-way? [1] has references on how Gnome did it in mutter. Or can you point me to the relevant packages with name (sources and patches)? Thanks in advance. [opensuse-kde] SDDM problems

Well actually it is KDM problems. KDM seems to need KDE4. See the thread on KDE4/Qt4 removal. Well the KDM I have needs KDE4. Even though I'm using "5" or KF5 as much as possible. But KDM seems problematic. maybe its a repository problems. The basic OS is 42.3. Along the way I keep trying to use SDDM instead, but despite library updates and SDDM updates I hit the same problem The login screen comes up with my name there asking for password. But if I adjust anything, try altering any of the pull-downs or try typing in the password everything freezes. Nothing work, no way to input or delete or pull-down. Cursor moves but nothing works. no way to log in. NOTHING. I have to go to a VT term and change /etc/sysconfig/display to lightdm or xdm and reboot. Looking that the processes on the hot-keyed VT: no SDDM isn't in a spin loop, its just frozen. Frustrating as I don't even know what to look for next. Why shouldn't it work? I can imagine kedeinit failing and bumping back to the login manager, but this isn't that. It SDDM *freezing*. Dear openSUSE KDE team, Is there anyone that can have a look and possibly escalate upstream bug ID 375445? https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375445 It has been open since 23/01/17 (first reported in Kmail2 5.7.0) with apparently zero developer activity on it since it was reported. [opensuse-kde] KDE4/Qt4 removal from openSUSE Factory

Hi, Short version: KDE4 is dead and will be removed shortly from openSUSE Factory. Qt4 is dead and shall be removed as soon as possible from openSUSE Factory. Long version: The last kdelibs version was released in 2017 and is no longer maintained, Qt4 is also no longer maintained upstream. To avoid keeping zombies with security issues, it's time to kill the kdelibs4 based packages but also the Qt4 based ones. A couple delete requests for KDE4 packages are currently being processes and more will follow. kdelibs4 will be the last one to go and after that, we'll remove packages not present in Leap from the KDE: tree. Qt4's fate shall be the same. If you maintain packages still using Qt4, please check if Qt5-based versions exist, if the Qt dependency is mandatory and/or if these packages are still useful. Hi, after finally moving to Tumbleweed from some KDE 4 based akonadiserver and kmail setup, I noticed them to exhaust my systems 32G memory: hp 14482 5.6 83.7 41289736 27545972 ? Sl 13:03 15:34 /usr/bin/ akonadiserver hp 14912 0.1 2.2 6302588 743184 ? Sl 13:04 0:28 /usr/bin/ kmail -qwindowtitle KMail Yes, that reads 41G VSZ and 27G RSS for akondiserver, only in about 5 hours wall clock run time. The KDE 4 versions where almost stable for the same setup, that consists from some huge IMAP mailboxes, indeed. Does somebody know, if the upcoming kdepim versions behave better in this respect? [opensuse-kde] Golden breeze theme

Hi, just want to ask for some feedback for a warm golden color scheme, that makes a refreshing difference to most common cold, and/or dark color schemes: Project: home:frispete:Tumbleweed Packages: breeze-gold, breeze-gtk-gold I combine this color scheme with the dark breeze plasma theme and the nice warmth wallpaper vladstudio_kihot_1600x1200.jpg, that resides in the kdm- theme-lisa package still. Just add my repo: $ zypper ar https://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/frispete:/ Tumbleweed/openSUSE_Tumbleweed/home:frispete:Tumbleweed.repo and install the gtk color schemes, that depend on breeze-gold: $ zypper install gtk{2,3}-metatheme-breeze-gold You should adjust the color scheme, as well as the GNOME/GTK design accordingly. Don't forget to *disable* the "Apply colors to Non-Qt applications" in the color settings, in order to make the GTK parts operating correctly. Chrome should be switched to the GTK+ theme, as well as other GTK/Java based applications, that let you choose the widget style. LO adapts to the breeze- gold scheme via KF5 integration package automatically. I already have a wine registry patch, that makes wine applications adapt to this color scheme as well. What do you think? Would you consider using it personally? Anything weak? Finally a word of warning: once, you get used to such a scheme, you will feel uncomfortable with the default settings of most computer systems ;-)... This scheme evolved a long way from KDE2 times, because I detest cold colors, and find dark themes strenuous for my eyes after working for a few hours... I never really got around to publish this thing until now, but I think, it is quite usable now. With the new Firefox release, even though it explicitly shows that I have autoplay disabled (both in general and specifically for this particular site), the sound starts blaring immediately on load anyway… anyone has an idea of what breaks this and how to fix it? As the subject says, the KDE:Applications repository now contains the Applications 19.04 beta. Everyone is encouraged to test and file bugs: software bugs upstream at https://bugs.kde.org, packaging bugs at https://bugzilla.opensuse.org.
