KDE 3.0.2 does not start

I'm using SuSE 8.0 with KDE 3.0.2 updates installed. When I try to start KDE via "startx" the KDE initialisaion screen appears but after "system resources" have been initialized KDE crashes. I'm quite new to KDE - maybe somebody can give me a hint what might be wrong or how to interpret the following error messages (this also happens with KDE 3.0 and cleaning the /tmp directory also is of no use): DCOPServer up and running. DCOP Cleaning up dead connections. kioslave sftp

Hello ! i've got a problem connecting my webhoster using the kioslave sftp. he doesn't use the standart ssh port 22. Can't Change "Look & Feel" of Desktop

Hi All, I'm a newbie to SuSE 8.0 and I'm a little bit befuddled why, when logged in as root, my changes to the look and feel of the desktop(s), namely backgrounds, does not take. I can change the bsckground while in a KDE session but my changes disappear and revert back to the default "red exploding bomb" background when I logout and return. I've never experienced this with debian, mandrake or redhat. Also, when trying to turn on the SuSE menus it doesn't take and all I get are the default KDE menus. Any help appreciated. HP-UX and Linux/ Filesystems/ How's 3.0.3?

I know about Samba and NFS, but I need to mount a disk directly, due to a 'crash'. Tried all the current fs modules including vxfs, to no avail. So tried to rip the disk with dd, but it's 4.3GB and reiser in 7.3 can't cope. (2GB max) and Win2k couldn't cope. (stopped at 2GB) So I've lost an opportunity I will not have again. When I try Suse8 again, I want to use a filesystem that CAN cope with =large= files. Ext3 is too slow. Is JFS stable yet? When will Reiser handle large files? You guys running Suse8/K3.0.3, any problems? Kbear, Quanta in KDE 3.1b - crash and burn

Hey, With the 3.1b of KDE installed on SuSE 8.0, Quanta and Kbear have both decided they'd rather crash than run. Anyone else had this problem? I'm using the latest RPMs for both programs that were released by SuSE in supplementary/KDE. Joe

Hi all, I am new to this group and have been lurking for a few weeks so I hope that my question hasn't been asked many times before or exists in a FAQ that I have missed. When I start the KOffice workspace the list of icons are doubled, i.e. I have two KWord icons, two KSpead icons etc. Does anybody know why this has happened and how I can remove one set of the icons? This is not a major problem by any means it's just slightly irritating. I am running SuSe 8.0 Pro. kdm after upgrage to KDE3.0.3

Hi, I'm running Suse8.0 with latest patches and have just upgraded to KDE 3.0.3 from KDE 3.0.2. Most things seems to that I've tried so far except..... 1. The kdm login window now displays all the users instead of just the ones I have selected. The changes I make do not take effect. The only change that did work was to change the icon displayed. I've checked the "kdmrc" file in /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm and it appears to have the changes I selected but "kdm" seems to have a mind of its own as to what it does: PreselectUser=None SelectedUsers=ian, SessionTypes=kde,default,failsafe, ShowUsers=Selected SortUsers=false I also changed the Logo to display the clock instead of the logo and it still diplays the logo: LogoArea=Clock The original "kdmrc" file has been saved by the upgrade process. Is "kdm" using another "kdmrc" file for its configuration? Am I checking the correct files? 2. YAST2 online update has stopped working. I get the Yast2 has started message and then it just sits there with a blank screen. It was working reasonably ok under KDE 3.0.2 but also had the same problems when upgrading from KDE 3.0.0 to KDE 3.0.1 but seemed to be cured after upgrade from KDE 3.0.1 to KDE 3.0.2.
