[opensuse-kde] ksysguard does not work after update from OBS KDE:QT44 repository

Hi, I am using openSUSE 10.3 x86_64 and updated QT and KDE with the KDE:QT44 repository from the openSUSE build service. My KDE version is KDE 3.5.7 "release 72.9". After a reboot the ksysguard applet stopped displaying the CPU load and memory usage. I had the same behavior on a different Computer running openSUSE 10.3 i586 after including that repository, doing the update, and reboot. When starting the application KDE System Guard I am getting the error message: "Connection to localhost has been lost". It pops up as a new message box in intervals, so I have to hurry to close them all in order to be able to shut down the application again. In /var/log/messages I am seeing this warning related to KDE System Guard: Jul 22 11:19:39 StCloud ksysguard[22404]: *** WARNING *** The programme 'ksysguard' uses the Apple Bonjour compatiblity layer of Avahi. [opensuse-kde] webcam not working

My second issue, vaguely related to the first. I'm running openSuSE 10.3 (going to wait for the next version after 11 to update). Before installing a kernel update about a week ago via yast, my Creative Live! Video IM webcam worked very well with the uvcvideo drivers. After the update, nothing. I made sure that the drivers were updated in yast, and they were, but uvcvideo refused to load. I went to the uvcvideo homepage and downloaded the driver from SVN, compiled and installed it and tried that. Still refused to load. Yesterday, I decided to check yast again and it told me my version of the driver was wrong. Okay. Interesting since I got it there in the first place. So I uninstalled the one I built and updated the module again. This is when the problem mentioned in the previous post happened, so I was unable to test it until I booted to the debug kernel. I checked through kinfocenter and found that my webcam is listed. I checked lsmod and found that all the correct modules - videodev, the ones for v4l, uvcvideo, etc. - were loaded. But my webcam refuses to work. No device is found. Hello SuSE people, Right after logging in for any user, my 10.2, KDE3.5.7 puts up a little window that says, "Could not start kstartconfig - Check your configuration" I can't seem to find a file of that name. Is it in /opt, /etc ? Where would I look ? Any ideas as to what has gone wrong? [opensuse-kde] uname -r reporting wrong kernel version

I actually have two issues, one major and one minor. This is the major. Expect a second post from me. After installing an updated kernel module via yast (uvcvideo and uvcvideo- debug), I noticed while working in konsole that I could not load any modules. They were all "not found" by modprobe. I could insmod some modules with the full path, but modprobe was useless. I then decided a reboot might be in order. No modules loaded as the default kernel loaded. I noticed then that uname -r was reporting a false version. I couldn't figure out why. /etc/modprobe.conf seemed okay and I have no clue what to make of all the files in /etc/modprobe.d I switched to the debug kernel, which is what I'm running now. I had to use lynx (always hold on to the old stuff) to go the nvidia site and install the driver because the debug kernel didn't have it (I'm using KDE 4.1, which I'm loving, but it's way too slow without hardware acceleration even without all the fancy doodads), but it's working fine now except for display managers refusing to run. So what's going on? Where do I need to look? [opensuse-kde] KDE Community Project reorg ?

Hi, just a suggestion: Why don't you obsolete all KDE:KDE4:*:Community projects and move everything into KDE:Community (or a KDE:KDE4:Community) ? You can still build against plain distro, STABLE, Factory and UNSTABLE kde4 projects, but put everything into own repositories. [opensuse-kde] slow resolving on DSL

Okay, I've had problems with my internet connection on this machine since I got it around SuSE 9.2. Last year, I upgraded my speed to the fastest offered by AT&T. Same problem. The problem is this: once a download starts (whether a large file or just a web page and its images), it uses my full speed without any problems, but it takes so long for the download to start, I may as well be on dialup. Web pages will eventually load up but the process is so slow that some images won't load. I reload and some of those images may load and others will not. It happens in Konqueror and it happens in Firefox. Firefox may show a little less of the problem or it may be my imagination. Email may be affected the same way or it may not - I don't usually notice as much of a wait time after I hit the button to check it. I've also noticed it a bit on online games. Yast software updating is slow as hell, but I've heard that it would be anyway. I've changed my modem and router, I've used different cables - both rj11 and rj45 (or whatever the number is) - I've even changed network cards. I've messed with settings on my router. Nothing. My laptop with another distro on it works fine - prompting me to believe that there's been something wrong with both modem/routers I've had, as my laptop, of course, uses wifi. Okay, so I've dealt with it. And then... I recently installed Windows XP on a small partition in order to use Flash CS3. Guess what? The internet connection runs as snappy as I could hope for. What's going on here? Surely there must be some network setting that hasn't been changed since I was using dialup. Or maybe something like that? I've tried a few things in the network setup in yast to no avail. A search of the internet gives me no clues. Maybe the problem is between the keyboard and the chair? Help me, please! By the way, I'm still on 10.3, if that makes a difference. However, as I've had the same problem in 9.2 and 10.1, I don't see how it would. Hi, As originally proposed on this mailing list I've started to merge KDE:KDE4:UNSTABLE:Community and KDE:KDE4:Factory:Community into KDE:KDE4:Community. KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Community is soon to follow. The previous setup caused some maintenance issues (people had to establish source links to one authortative source and we had to keep the ACL list / package list consistent over multiple projects), this setup should be a lot easier and it also helps to get an overview about which package fails/succeeds to build where, because everything is visible on one monitor page. As such, it should make everyone's life easier. Note that due to this move, you have to update your sources list if you used any of those repositories. the new linkes are on http://en.opensuse.org/KDE/Repositories like usual. Please note that if you use the KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop repository on anything other than openSUSE Factory, you have to use one of the custom repositories (like e.g. openSUSE_10.3_KDE4_Factory_Desktop), to get plasma applets that are recompiled against the correct version of libplasma. if you fail to do that, it will either be uninstallable due to massive amount of conflicts or in the worst case cause plasma to crash on startup (but this has been fixed for KDE 4.1 and newer, so its only an issue for KDE:KDE4:STABLE:Desktop users on 10.3).
