I'm running SuSE 8.1 PRO, and looking for some hand-holding in going from KDE
3.04 to 3.11. YOU doesn't provide that option, and I am leary about going the
rpm route without some *detailed* instructions. Can someone point me in the
right direction? Or, should I just forget about it until I upgrade to a new
release, sometime in the (more distant) future?

Suse 8.2, KDE 3.1
I want to edit the buttons in kicker. I want that the user is not allowed to add buttons again. Therefore I
edited home/.kde/share/config/kickerrc
In the area general I edited the line:
Applets=KMenuButton_1, BrowserButton_1 .....
I thought by deleting for instance BrowserButton_1 it will not be shown any more.
But after a restart the line appears unchanged again, so I think Suse does something...?
When I rightclick on the buttons I can delete them. But I don't want that the user can do this or that he can
add buttons again.
So I thougt making kickerrc readonly would help.
What is my mistake?
Do I edit the right file?
Does Suse really change kickerrc after a restart?
Thanks for your help
Dirk
Hi,
hopefully anybody can help me.
I just upgrade from KDE 3.0 to KDE 3.1 on a Suse 8.0 and now ....
.. nearly everything works exept the fact that I have no desktop, meaning
no context menu when right-clicking
no icons no background picture
and I dont really know what else is missing.
But all application like opera, kmail, YAST and so on
work fine, when startet from a xterm.
When I log in as root or created a new user the problem wasn't there
for them, but it still exits for me as a user.
So hopefully there is only one little thing missing, but
I have no idea what??
Any ideas?
Thank you for your efforts
Greetings
Frank Bertling

Hello together!
I started to use Knewsticker and would like to open those links in mozilla. I
added Mozilla in the Kcontrolcenter to handle html files.
Whem Mozilla is closed this works fine. But as Mozilla is usually open on one
of my virtual desktops, he wants to start a new session.
Now my question. Is there a way, that I can tell Knewsticker or Mozilla that
the link should be started in prefered a new tab, or a new window? (I could
also live with a solution that opens the link in Konqueror, but somehow I
messed the html-handling for Konqueror up *G*)
Thank you for any solution. Take care
Andreas

OK, since you all are so amazingly quick at answers, here's another
question: On my new clean install of 8.2, I've got the file association
for html set to Opera, then Mozilla, then Konqueror. However, when I
click on a link in Knode, nothing happens. The cursor starts off by
being the little hand, then changes to a little pointing hand (like the
one in Mozilla), but nothing happens.
What have I got set wrong and how can I fix this?
Thanks again,
Malke

Don't Panic!
Hi - Clean install of SuSE 8.2 on a machine that was happily running 8.0
and then 8.1 for the last year. Same ViewSonic A90 monitor, same Geforce
Ultra 2 (Gladiac, 64MB). Desktop is set to 1280 x 1024, 16 bit color as
before. The monitor was correctly identified this time (I had to enter
settings manually in 8.0 and 8.1). When I open apps full screen, they
always open with the title bar cut off a bit. If I "pull" the window
down by dragging with the mouse, the full title bar shows. I tried
making the desktop smaller from YaST and also with the monitor controls,
with no change. I know this sounds stupid, but it's irritating to not be
able to see the close, minimize, etc. buttons completely.
Where and how would I change these settings?
Thanks,
Malke

Hello
I place my shortcuts on the Desktop, but when I login for the next time,
all icons are misplaced. How can I save my session, so all icons remain in
the position I prefer ?

Have you tried to run Sax2? This program helps configure your
monitor settings to a tee.
