Hi all,
Just when we[1] finally got around to updating Tumbleweed to the latest
KDE packages, it looks like the whole repo is broken with tons of
"conflicts".
Any idea what happened? Any guess as to when it will be fixed?
thanks,
greg k-h
[1] Well, Jiri, not me, he did all the real work here, I just ran the
script he updated :)

All users are suddenly able to shut down the system. This was not intended by me. I am running secure local permissions and did not authorize or set any change. So I have to be worried that the permissions have been altered? What has changed this setting. WLAN setting and connection authorization seem normal. And where in KDE do I have the possibility to have an easy to understand synoptic view of the permissions of my systems and the user authorization. In Mageia there is in KDE a polkit setting application that is missing in openSUSE. So what does opensuse forsee to manage polkit settings (other than editing by hand).
Thanks.

For days now I have not been able to fully upgrade some of the KDE files
because, for example, I get this (captured a few moments ago)-
http://susepaste.org/76846225
but this is not the full list of the dependency errors because if I
select not to install the 'problem' files I get *more* dependency errors
leading to more incomprehensible choices! :-(
What has triggered this post is that I have upgraded to kernel 3.15.0-1
yesterday, and have been upgrading the kernel as a new stable one
becomes available, but when I looked at Gecko>Computer>KinfoCenter I
find that it is showing that I am still running kernel 3.14.4-2! Now
come on! :-(
Can't this dependency hell be solved once and for all times?
(The above captured image was when using YaST but when using zypper I
just get a list of files which will not be upgraded/updated (<whatever>
- I'm not getting into the 'upgrade' VS 'update' argument thanks).

Thank you Raymond and to all of you for the effort.
Sorry if I was a bit "odd" but you wouldn't belief it, I have now an A4 page of passwords because I had to change everything twice or more during the last events. Sure, better that the bug has been found than not. Maybe astonishingly late and, although I am aware that this is easy to say but hard to be done, for these kind of bugs, isn't there any automated bug research? MIM attacks are quite the first thing that is tried when people want to overcome TLS, https ecc.
In fact this should be a further motivation for all that are still using mail without gpg encryption to finally change to safe practice, but even if, provided one has POP on one machine (rightly for not leaving stuff on the server), such an error leaves you always trousers down if you have documents on your mail providers site. (Another argument against whatever cloud service I guess. The cloud is inherently unsafe/insane IMO. YMMV)).
Regards and again thank you for the info.
P.S. and this is a good time to ask: is smart card support for gpg broken in Kleopatra or maybe simply not implemented? In the second case I will have to file an enhancement upstream I guess. Kleopatra does not see the crypto-stick (opensc based).

Quite catastrophic AFAIU:
Golem:
http://www.golem.de/news/kde-fehler-in-kmail-erlaubt-man-in-the-middle-angr…http://www.kde.org/info/security/advisory-20140618-1.txt
That is to all extend the worst error that can be with POP. Do I have to discontinue the use of KMAIL or will the patch be on its way asap (That is we do not have to wait for KDE 13.3)? This voids of course all passwords of all Pop accounts and requires a complete setup (AGAIN after heart-bleed and so on and so forth. Password changing is getting a hobby). Not amused.
Thanks.

Thanks, Alex, for the info!
Interestingly, when I added an additional icon to the panel (after I'd
send the msg to the kde list, the icons all sprang back to their prev
locations to the left of the panel next to the new icon.
I will keep the spacer widget tip in mind in case things ever go askew
again.

After recently applying the most recent openSUSE-13.1 patches and
rebooting my system and logging in to the KDE desktop, a number of
things had changed not to my liking. I was able to fix most of them by
locating the settings and tweaking them to put things back to the way
they were. However, there is one thing that I have been unable to
figure out.
I had placed a second panel at the top of my desktop where I put some of
my frequently used apps to make it easier to get to them (I dragged the
icons from the Menu to the panel). Prior to the updates, I'd had the
icons all grouped together at the left end of the panel. However, after
the updates, they are evenly spread across the panel and any effort to
drag them back to their old location results in them springing back to
their new location as soon as I unclick from the drag.
How can I again get the icons to group together at the left end of the
panel? I have not been able to find any settings that seem to affect
this.
Thanks!

Hey all,
first, a small announcement for KDE:Unstable:Frameworks users:
since today, 'official' Plasma 5 components in mentioned repo are now placed in
/usr prefix, so it means they collide with kdebase4-workspace. So, it'll be
either-or. Rest of the ported applications and components will soon follow,
and they'll also collide with 4.x counterparts. This is done to create 'less
artificial' environment, and we can see what needs to be done for next openSUSE
release so users can get most painless testing and usage there.
Second, the beta2 release is for the most part packaged in KDE:Frameworks5
project (same as above - in /usr), and soon the submissions toward
openSUSE:Factory will start.
We've started also slightly adjusting packaging of kdebase4-workspace, so the
amount of removed components from 4.x world decreases for those that want to
try out Plasma5.
For 4.x users nothing changes, just a few packages more, as workspace will be
splitted in more logical pieces, and applications that require workspace
libraries can remain installed.
Third; no, Plasma 5 *wont* be default in openSUSE 13.2 ;-)
Cheers,
Hrvoje
Any idea when we may expect the update to 4.13 for Tumbleweed?
For the moment it is really quit with zypper dup ;)
