I had similar problems as the OP when I was using 10.2. I have since upgraded
to 10.3 and the problems have gone away.
Before I upgraded to 10.3, I was using a workaround. Execute the following as
user:
kded --check && kded --new-startup
From what I could figure out, the KDE mediamanager was crashing or would
simply exit. The above command restarts it.
That should make Kopete, sysinfo:/, media:/ work. What finally made me install
10.3 was that I had to constantly execute the above command - almost at
random intervals. I'm not sure what would trigger kded to crash, but it did
often. At least with the above command you can get some work done :) I would
suggest installing 10.3. I did the fresh install option, so I don't know if
upgrading 10.2->10.3 will fix the problem.
Hope this helps,
Alvin
