[opensuse-kde] context menus & window backgrounds, brief corrupt image

openSUSE 12.1 x86_64, ATI catalyst / fglrx driver 11.12, KDE 4.7.2 I assumed this was just some quirk only affecting myself, but maybe I'll ask if anyone else is seeing this. Whenever I right click to open a context menu, it briefly draws some corrupt garbage looking stuff where the context menu should be. It quickly disappears and the context menu is drawn properly... ? This happens with 'desktop effects' enabled or disabled. [opensuse-kde] upnp and kdelibs

I notice that kdelibs4 has support for upnp media streaming disabled. This done by a flag saying kdelibs4 is not gplv3 compatible, which blocks the herqq-devel (aka hupnp) dependency needed by KDE for upnp support. I assume this is referring to LGPLv3, the license of the herqq (hupnp) library that is disabled. Recently I heard that Fedora wants to get rid of ConsoleKit. This would mean that KDE (and XFCE, and LXDE) supports systemd-logind. Is it the case? Or is Fedora just patching KDE? The package kde4-l10n of the repository KDE:Release:48/openSUSE_12.1 is in scheduled state since several days. Because of this it isn't published anymore. [opensuse-kde] Text file won't print

Why should a simple text file not print? The file in question is a perl script, about 4kB in size. When I load it into kate or kwrite, and try to print it out, all the expected print dialogs open, but after clicking the 'Print' button, nothing happens. CUPS (localhost:631) doesn't even show the job arriving in the print spool. OTOH, other textfiles will print from kate/kwrite, and the perl script mentioned above _will_ print from LibreOffice writer. Permissions on the file are 644. I am the owner. It seems that only KDE apps are affected. Just added KDE 4.8 repo today on 11.4 system not booted since last August, then did zypper dup (without checking to see if X was working first), hunted down remaining 4.6.0 packages and zypper rm'd them. That resulted in the subject error message when tried with startx, and KDM simply failing to start if booted to runlevel 5. (Where does a KDM startup failure get logged?) Then I zypper rm'd all of KDE and installed it again, which apparently changed nothing. Plenty of disk space is available for tmp files, and tmp dirs all have full write permission. Note below in log "kdostartupconfig4". That looks suspicious, but I don't know how to find out if it's a problem. Note zypper output below doesn't actually say what rpm provides libfam.so.0, but MC can't find one anywhere in the /usr tree. If answers to above questions aren't it, can anyone look at what I've pasted below and tell me what's missing or broken?
