[suse-kde] KMail Encrypting to Outlock - Bad Session Key

When I encrypt a message using KMail and GPG, to an Outlook user, they invariably get a message, "encrypted session key is bad". Checking Google there is some confusion, but the most credible answer (from Disastry) is this is: "probably because of MDC. GPG uses MDC with AES,Twofish. however 6.5.8ckt06 should be able to decrypt Blowfish encrypted msgs. "you can disable MDC with --openpgp switch. then 6.5.8ckt06 should be able to decrypt all ciphers. "> P.S. Disastry... what's MDC and why does GnuPG use it? "Modification Detection Code, generaly SHA1 hash of message appended to message before encryption." OK, so the problem is messages are being encrypted with the wrong algos. Algo order is hard-coded in GPG, and I'm not going to change/recompile. I want to stay as standard as possible. So the answer is to set the switch --openpgp . After a full day of research I have ascertained that KMail uses code fragments from the old KPGP... actually .css , to hook GPG. I need somewhere to tell GPG to use the --openpgp switch. Normally this would be in the ~/.gnupg/options file , but I added the line openpgp and it has no effect. So GPG must be getting called with a different config, maybe via an environment variable. Another option is to have the KMail|GPG interface use --openpgp as an option to the invoking command, but I cannot find this interface anywhere. I believe Geheimnis is the successor to KPGP, so I installed it from the Suse8 disks. Started it up, and it wanted to be configured. JOY, there is a place to modify the commandline, although I do not know whether this is the same commandline invoked by KMail. So I set up Geheimnis, leave it running and send an email encrypted. Whoops, still bad sessionkey. AND when I stop and restart Geheimnis it forgot I had already set it up! It is not writing its ~/.geheimnis file. It was running as my user, but it couldn't/wouldn't write to my user dir. Could this be related to KMail not reading its config file, as I noted in my post titled, "KMail ignoring config file"? Seriously considering going back to Netscape mail. conversion from mbox (KMail) to Outlook

Hi everybody, I am forced to use linux and Windows on the same machine, which works quite good. But there is one problem I was unable to solve: I can import all my Outlook Express mail-folders to KMail (mbox), but there seems to be no way to reimport those mails back to Outlook (neither Express nor Outlook 2000). Resending all those mails and downloading them with Outlook won't work, since there are about 100 MB stored in those folders. Can anybody help? Without the option to move between KMail and Outlook I am forced to to all my email with Windows. Cheers, Torsten

Editing files from KonqSU

Previous answers were to $ xhost +localhost , and # xauth merge /home/username/.Xauthority # export DISPLAY=:0.0 but neither of these works for me. The former is supposed to be a security problem, but I don't see why. Does this force it to listen on TCP? I also tried $ xhost LOCAL: , and it doesn't work either. Anyone know why this happens? KMail ignoring config file

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 . OK, KMail definitely is ignoring its /home/{user}/.kde/share/config/kmailrc file. I investigated this when I suddenly lost signatures. Made changes to kmailrc (Identity), and they are not taking effect. Can anyone explain this? AND, when you specify a person is to be encrypted to all the time, you can never revoke this. I can't find where this info might be stored. Not in kab. Sure - I thought I _was_ being specific, but everything is relative ;-) I renamed the .kde to .kde-orig, and the .kde2 to .kde2-orig, and renamed .kderc to .kderc-orig. Just to be sure, I removed the directories .dcop* and .mcop*. Doing this forces KDE to start from "scratch" as all the settings are now no longer present. By the way, these files are in your home directory. The caveat is that if you want settings for KMail and other things back, you need to move them from .kde-orig to the newly created .kde. You will find relevant files in .kde/share/config/... and .kde/share/apps/... For example, for KMail, there are configuration files in .kde-orig/share/config/kmailrc and mailbox and filter rules in .kde-orig/share/apps/kmail. Move these files or directories for KMail to their counterparts in the newly created .kde directory. KDE CUPS broken

For some reason that I have not been able to fathom, printing in KDE via CUPS no longer works. It worked yesterday, but not today. Today I get the error message "There was an error loading kdeprint_cups. The diagnostic message was" and that's it. The cups daemon is up and running. KDE Control center also shows the same error message when bringing up the printer dialog. Does anyone have any clues where to begin? KMail & server password

If I'm overlooking the obvious, just slap me around... By preference, my outgoing messages are sent immediately, rather than held in the outbox for manual mass sending. Whenever I send a message (via SMTP server), I'm prompted for password. Is there a way to have my password remembered for the duration of the current session, only? I prefer to re-authenticate at the start of each session, but it's a bit much to re-enter the password for each sent message. . I didn't see anything in the Settings menu (I thought "Security" would be the place for stuff about passwords...), but I'm known for missing things that are right under my nose... it's a big nose... casts a deep shadow... :-) /kevin

KDE3/Konqueror: How to set the expiration intervall for "visited links"

Hi, please see subject. Google and the unsenet groups did not help me. Sorry if this still is a FAQ. My basic problem is that "visited links" seem to expire after about 24h in konqueror. This is about two week two early for me :-) Although I looked pretty hard, I did not find a way to change/specify this behaviour. My system is running SuSE8.0/KDE3, latest online updates. go back to 2.2.1.... but how?

ok with my 7.3 I went over to kde3... took some time but it works, but I miss to much links I had within 2.2.1... maybe I am lazy but how do I undo kde3. I reversed the steps I did to get it started, but that didn't help... should I remove kde totally and build it up again?? piet
