KDE Print Manager - SuSE Pro 9

Hello - When I run the Print Manager in KDE 3.1.4, and make changes to, say, a driver, then try to "test" print, I get asked for a password. It also asks for the same if I just "finish". It says something to the effect that "The access to the requested resource on the CUPS server running on localhost (port 631) requires a password". No matter what account or password pair I use, including root, it won't accept it. Why is this happening and what password is it looking for? Thanks- Dan

System slow downs (after upgrade to KDE 3.2?)

Hello, sometimes, not allways, my system slows down significantly during working under KDE 3.2. Timing buffer-cache reads drops downto 60MB/s, normal is 500MB/s. Timing buffered disk reads are as usual 20 MB/s. A log out and in from KDE does not help. X goes up to 40% user, ksysguard to 20%. I remember this being unusual. Does anybody know why that is and how I can resolve that? cu Stefan

SuSE Pro 9 + Mozilla 1.6 + KDE = no sound

Hello- Has anyone managed to get Mozilla to play sounds (new mail arrival - custom .wav file)? Works in KMail, but I don't want to use that for email. Thanks- Dan

Maybe the way to go is from within the terminal/console based YaST not the X version? xearth and xglobe

Hi! I am not able to get either of this programs started. I tried various parameters, but the background of the desktop does not change. I am using Suse 9.0 professional. Perhaps someone could give me an example command line. The man pages could not help, by the way. Thanks, Christopher.

Well here is what I did on my SuSE 8.2 system with KDE 3.1.4 before I stopped. select Control Center select YaST2 modules select software select install and Remove Software saw that filter is set to selections: selected KDE Desktop Environment checked all the components where the installed version is 3.1.4 and set to update to 3.2.0 select accept and got the following dependency issues. Upgrading KDE 3.1 to 3.2 on SUSE 9.0

Anybody have any experience with this? When I go to upgrade using: Rpm -Uvh *.rpm (I downloaded all the updated KDE packages from SUSE's website). I get this: kdebase3-SuSE <= 9.0 conflicst with kdebase3-3.2.0-7 What should I do. A friend of mine deinstalled the kdebase3 and he ended up rebuilding he said. Thanks for any help.

Kmail - trouble in 9.0

I've had trouble sending mail with kmail since I upgraded to 9.0. The package reports trouble with "sending address". Receiving mail works fine. Sending and receiving works fine with Evolution. "The obscure we see eventually, the completely apparent may take longer." - Ed Morrow
