backing up k-mail

Because a SuSE 9 upgrade completely hosed my home account I guess I'm going to have to create a new user and port my stuff to that account. Most stuff I can easily back up, but I'm not sure how to backup and restore K-mail data and settings. Any suggestions? apt-get KDE3.2 gives lots of kept back packages

Greetings to the list, I thought I give it a shot at apt-getting 3.2 on my SuSE 8.1 machine with KDE 3.1.3, but I get 29 packages that are kept back: The following packages have been kept back arts arts-devel k3b kdeadmin3 kdeartwork3 kdebase3 kdebase3-devel kdeedu3 kdegames3 kdegames3-arcade kdegraphics3-kamera kdelibs3 kdelibs3-devel kdemultimedia3-devel kdemultimedia3-extra kdemultimedia3-midi kdemultimedia3-sound kdemultimedia3-video kdepim3 kdepim3-organizer kdepim3-time-management kdesdk3 kdesdk3-translate kdetoys3 kdeutils3 knights libwmf quanta sane as you can see that includes basic components like kdebase and kdelibs. I assume this stems from dependencies from packages I installed separately. How can I bring apt-get to show me those dependencies explicitely (it must have found them to offer me not to upgrade, right?) per package so I can decide if uninstalling the packages could help? or what else could I do? Any suggestions are wellcome. Kostas

No configuration for kmail

This is a weird one. I reinstalled kmail (the version from KDE 3.1.4) and now the Settings item on the menu doesn't have an entry for "Configure KMail". Just for configuring Filters, POP filters, Shortcuts, and Toolbar. Anyone else encountered this behavior? Any ideas on how to get the configuration back? Paul Abrahams

Installing KDE 3.2 under SuSE 9

I'm considering the update of KDE 3.1.4 to 3.2. I pointed YaST to http:// ftp.leo.org/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.0/yast-source/suse/ and started selecting the newer components for update. the consistency check process identified that kdebase3-SuSE, susehelp and susehelp_en conflicted with the upgrade and had to be deleted. What are the implications of allowing the deletion of these packages? From the descriptions, the kdebase3-SuSE component could probably be omitted without significantly detrimental effects. However, the susehelp packages seem important and should be preserved. If I should heed the warnings of YaST and delete these packages, is there another source that contains newer, compatible replacements? I was unable to find any in my feeble attempts. Are there any other "gotchyas" that I should watch out for in performing this update? links in kmail

Hi, list. When someone sends me a link in a mail in http://server/url.html fotmat, if I click on it konqueror just won't start and show the web page, so that I have to start konqueror and paste the link. I have tried to enable the "allow external references" in the security tag of the kmail config menu, but it opens a download window for a second, gets the page, and after that it wont open it up with konqueror. I searched in /tmp/kde-myuser, but no clues at all. It must be a very silly thing to do, anybody help me, please? My sistem is a SuSE 8.2, all updates downloaded. Thanks.

Interesting new 3.2 feature.

Anyone noticed that if you have your mouse over an open part of the desktop that in 3.2 you can switch virtual desktops with the wheel of a wheel mouse. I discovered this by accident today. I think this rocks. I hope it is a feature and I just don't have some settings messed up and this is a result. After SuSE 9.0 upgrade, selecting KDE from login screen causes reboot

I just bought and installed SuSE 9.0 as an upgrade to my SuSE 8.2 system, which was fully functional. The problem: I cannot log into my home account with KDE. The system boots successfully (as far as I can tell), and presents the graphical login screen. When I select KDE and a user to log in as, the system attempts to create an X-session, and then goes into a full hard reboot. It's a cycle. I can run Window Maker, FVWM and a few others, so it doesn't appear to be an X11 issue. I have run SaX2 successfully, so there should be a valid X config. Coincidentally I also can't run Gnome, but I guess that's an issue for the Gnome list. Is this a known issue? Any suggestions? Sorry if this has been addressed before. k3b update issues

I've upgraded KDE on my SUSE 9.0 system to 3.2. k3b was not included in the upgrade. When I try to upgrade to k3b 0.11, it says there are missing dependencies (about 4 libk3b... files). I cannot find these files with synaptic (they're not in 'Not Installed' files). Anyone else have this issue or know how to work around this. k3b is currently showing up on upgrades as 'held back' because of this. Thanks.
