upgrade to KDE 3.2 broke autologin in SUSE 9

Hi, I upgraded my KDE 3.1.5 installation on Suse 9 to KDE 3.2 with (almost) no pain. I have to say that KDE 3.2 is very stable and feature rich! My only issue is that the autologin option that I enabled for my wife is not working anymore. When KDE starts up we get a message saying that the authentication failed. Then when I manually login (on the same account), everything works fine... I thought that it might be something related to a saved setting (either in the .kde directory or somewhere else, but the issue is still in place if I enable autologin for another user)... what could be the reason? Can someone explain me what is exactly happening when you enable autologin (i.e. what is written, where) so that I can modify it in order to ensure the proper work of autologin thanks a lot & regards, Timur __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? KDE 3.2: K-Menue truncated

Hallo, my K-Menue behaves in a strange fashion since the update to KDE 3.2. From time to time it seems that the right side is truncated. This affects only the first level of the menue. The effect disappears after deleting ~/.kde/share/config/kickerrc and restarting the kicker. After starting some programms the strange behavior reappears. Kpackage Error

I am almost finished battling through the nightmare of a KDE 3.2 upgrade on SuSE 9.0, but I have come to a standstill trying to fix the following error when starting kpackage: ~> kpackage konsole: chownpty failed for device /dev/ptyp0::/dev/ttyp0. : This means the session can be eavesdroped. : Make sure konsole_grantpty is installed in : /opt/kde3/bin/ and setuid root. kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::plugAccel(): call to deprecated action. The last line is repeated 22 times and then the kpackage gui hangs. I have been unable to locate anything on "konsole_grantpty" and would welcome anyone's pointers or solutions to the problem. k3b - installation problem

KDE 3.2: unhandled event :0

Hi, I'm running KDE 3.2 on Suse 9.0 (with latest package update via apt). There is an annoying message that appears few seconds after the KDM login and while there is still the KDE splash screen. It is a borderless grey windows which says in dark gray bold fonts: Unhandled event :0 The windows disappears automagically in less than a second and KDE loads with no pain. Does anyone have a clue about what this could be? How can I eventually fix it? It was not there when I was running KDE 3.1.5, but it appeared whenever I migrated to KDE 3.2rc1 and it is still with me now that I upgraded to 3.2. thanks a lot & regards, Timur __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Structure of kmail files and archiving

I'd like to be able to take my mail files and archive them. Easy enough -- just copy them elsewhere. But the interesting question is how to access them later on. I don't just want to bring them back under the same folder names, since then they'll overwrite my newer mail. Instead I want to bring them back under a different name -- say a folder named Archive that has all the other old folders as subfolders. It appears that the best way to do that would probably be to discard all the index files when I create the archive. That led me to examine the contents of one of my email files. It seems to have all the messages concatenated with a couple of blank lines between. But it's not clear how Kmail (or any other mail program) can parse that unambiguously, since an email message might contain as part of its text the precise header of some other email message. Anyone have ideas on how (a) Kmail parses a mail file when it doesn't have an index, or (b) what a good archive restoration strategy would be? Paul Abrahams

Hi all! I tried to update Kile to version 1.6.X but with no sucess. yast2 tells me that libkwalletclient.so.1 is missing. Has anybody experience or a helpful advice? Thanks in advance.

How to transfer distribution lists in kmail

I am installing SuSE 9.0 professional on a new computer, and I want to keep all of my addresses and distribution lists. i am running kde 3.2 and Kmail as part of contact. In the directory ~/.kde/share/apps/kabc/ I find the files std.vcf plus std.vcf_1 through std_vcf_6. Also present is the text file distlists. Copying all these files to the corresponding directory in the new installation gives me all the email addresses, but it does not give me the distribution lists. I assume the file distlists is related to the distribution lists, but i can't seem to figure out how. Any ideas? Mike -- Michael A.
