[opensuse-kde] KDE4.6.2 (on 11.4) Kmenu names not showing

I've been poking at this one for a little while now without much success. Using openSUSE 11.4 and KDE 4.6.2. I've got a few applications - the games from HumbleBundle 2 - that have been added to the KMenu by their installers. When I navigate to the applications in the KMenu, the icons are showing, but there is no text next to the icons (Application name field is empty). A mouse hover shows the app names in grey text in the Description field. If I go to the KMenu editor and check the entries, they are filled in correctly - there is a name in the Name field, and the Description fields are all blank. If I add text to the Description field, save and exit the editor, the new Descriptions I've added are not shown on mouse hover, and the Application name is still not showing. Here is a list of missing dependencies from KDE:Distro:Factory builds: I have put together a list of missing dependencies for packages in KDE:Distro:Factory. They fall in a few categories: --- 1. Dependencies that appear useful but are not currently packaged in any openSUSE repositories. These may have legal issues (in rough order of how important they appear): QtIndicate or qindicate: Used by choqok, clementine, . An indicator library. mobile-broadband-provider-info: Used by NetworkManager-KDE4. Database of mobile broadband service providers. Needed for Mobile Connection Wizard support in Broadband Modem Management. This is currently available from packman. OpenConnect: Used by NetworkManager-KDE4. Cisco AnyConnect compatible VPN client. Needed for OpenConnect support in Network Management. I do not see this in OBS at all. CLucene1: used by strigi for some sort of searching. Only the 0.9 branch of clucene is available in openSUSE. liblocation: used by marble, presumably for some gps stuff. libmms: Used by kdnetwork and kradio. Needed to build KGet mms support. This is currently available from packman. openjpeg: Free library for JPEG 2000 image compression. Required by the Krita JPEG 2000 filter. This is currently available from packman. Spnav: Used by koffice (and calligra). Required by SpaceNavigator 3D mouse plugin. This is available from several home: repositories. DCMTK: Used by koffice (and calligra). Required for processing DICOM structured reports. This is available from several home: repositories. Cuda: Used by opencv, presumably to offload operations onto the graphics card. Available from several home: repos. --- 2. Dependencies that are available in OBS, but are not in opensuse-factory: Qwt: Used by kdebindings-smokeqt, Perl-Qt4, and Ruby-Qt4. Needed to compile Qwt5 bindings, providing scientific widgets. It is also used by several scientific packages. It is available in contrib. QtZeitgeist: Used by kdebase4-runtime and phonon. Zeitgeist and QtZeitgeist is needed for resource tracking. I have a working package for this that is now in kde-extra, it can be incorporated at any time. HUPnP: used by kdelibs. Allows Solid to provide information about UPnP devices on the network. This is available in several places, including KUSc. I have built kdelibs with it and it builds fine, looking at the history I think this was worked on a lot for KDE 4.7. QNtrack: Used by kdebase4-runtime. Network status tracking library. Provides data input for Solid network status. It is available from the Network repository, amongst other places. ffmpeg: Used by amarok, k3b, kdemultimedia4, kradio, opencv, and strigi. Headers are available, I can see if these will build with them lame: used by k3b and kradio. Needed for the lame mpf encoder encoder plugin. Headers are available, I can see if this will build with them. mad: used by k3b. Needed for the mp3 audio decoder plugin. Headers are available, I can see if this will build with them. FreeTDS: Used by koffice (and calligra). Open source implementation of the TDS (Tabular Data Stream) protocol. Required by Kexi Sybase Migration driver. Available from several OBS repos, including devel:libraries:c_c++. XPlanet: Used by kstars for rendering planets. This was in openSUSE but removed, now it is in hamradio. UniCap: Used by opencv, presumably for video capture. It is in Intel:Moblin2, but hasn't been updated in a while. --- 3. Dependencies that are available in openSUSE-factory, but are not currently being used in the package (I can add these easily enough if there is no reason not to): R: Used by Cantor. A free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. Backend to use R with Cantor. kwebkitpart: used by choqok. Not sure why this isn't being used. libtidy: used by kdebase4. Gives the Konqueror validators plugin the ability to validate HTML. qvoronoi: used by kdegames. Part of the qhull package, needed for the irregular grid from the Palapeli Slicer. libkexiv2 and libkdcraw: used by kdegraphics-thumbnailers. Required to build the RAW thumbnailer libktorrent: Used by kdebase4-workspace. Needed to build KGet bittorrent support. Once again, I don't know why this isn't being used. msiLBC: Used by kdenetwork. Needed to build Google Talk libjingle voice call support with iLBC codec system-config-printer: used by kdeutils. Some of its modules (cupshelpers.py and ppds.py) are optionally used by printer-applet for auto configure of new printers. You should also install the udev rules from system-config-printer. Create Resources: Used by koffice (and calligra). Recommended at runtime for KOffice for optional extra resources. XBase: Used by koffice (and calligra). Required by Kexi XBase Migration driver. OpenGTL and QtGTL: Used by koffice (and calligra). Requires for various operations. I understand that this is currently broken and a fix is in-process. podofo: Used by krename. libcfitsio0 and libindi: Used by kstars. Once again I am not sure what is going on here, KDF has these packags and assume they are there specifically for kstars. libgps: used by marble for gps operations. eigen: used by openbabel and opencv. dbusmenu-qt: used by quassel for the system tray. python and wxwidgets: used by openbabel, apparently for the guy. polkit-qt: used by python-kde4. XInput device properties 2.x: Used by synaptiks. I assume this is available, although I don't kno in which packages. --- 4. Dependencies that aren't in openSUSE factory but don't appear very important: HSpell: Used by kdelibs4. Spell checking support for Hebrew. Hebrew support can also be provided via Enchant, providing the correct Enchant backends are installed. Since enchant is provided, this seems redundant. XMMS 1.x: Used by a lot of packages, but openSUSE is providing XMMS2 now instead. PvAPI, IPP, and TBB: Used by opencv, but I don't know what thez are or what opencv uses them for. SCIM: Used by plasma-addons. I just really, really hate this program. log4cxx: Used by strigi for advanced logging. Available from deve:languages:c and c++, but do we really need advanced logging? HYPHEN: Used by Scribus for hyphenation. Hello, i have updated KDE to Release:47. And now the KMenu is not so as in opensuse 11.4. I missing the "New Programms" and I missing the left arrow in menus to go back in menus. Hello Since I updated (in the morning) KDE4.6 to KDE4.7 I have graphical problems with Firefox and Thunderbird. Hey all; 4.7 rc2 is now served in KDE:Unstable:SC, tested on 11.4 & Factory. Still need someone to test on 11.3. Here are the known problems so far: - Kmail2 might give an error message on startup saying "KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: Failed to fetch the resource collection." This is reported upstream. - Nepomuk fails to index anything. This will be fixed next week. - Weather applet crashes on Factory. This a problem with the new gps library. I'll debug this in coming days. Have fun testing. Since the update to 4.7 I have had problems with kmail. I have it running in the meantime although the migration did not work for me. It was a small catastrophe it cost me a lot of time and manual work but it is up and running. One real problem is synchronizing of all folders and subfolders I have on my system. All folders are synchronized every time my system fetches email from three pop accounts. That take a lot of time and 99% of my cpu. Also folders who are not affected by any new emails. Could that have something to do with the following? After leaving akonadiconsole started on konsole I get a message which does not make much sense: QSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'qt_sql_default_connection' is still in use, all queries will cease to work. Moving that breadcrumb to the left would also be good, everything is left aligned except that breadcrumb. looks a little out of place IMHO. Hi all; First of all I myself have been testing KMail2 for long before shipping it as an update, until the 4.7 release day we have been having random problems related to Akonadi, so we decided to switch Akonadi to use SQLite backend instead of MySQL. This resulted in an actually working KMail2. Now, some of you are pissed asking why we switched to SQLite without discussing it, the reason was that MySQL backend simply didn't work for us and we faced a tough decision, either we were going to ship something that doesn't even work on our development machines or ship with SQLite backend accept that some Akonadi operations can block the Graphical User Interface (eg. kmail). I couldn't ship a known-to-be broken software with a straight face, so I changed akonadi to use SQLite backend, which btw Fedora is now defaulting (they did before us). Please don't feel personal about this, this is not about listening to community, discussing with the community. This is about not shipping with known-broken software. I hope this clears up some confusion. Hi together, My System: openSUSE 11.3 (32Bit) + Kernel: 3.0.0-1-Desktop KDE SC 4.7.0 packages from KDF Repos. My problem: Start→ YaST → Software → "Repositorys add" ↓ → Add "locales directory" → klick to "search" ↓ → ends with error message: "Cuold not start process. Cannot start klaucher. Not connected to D-Bus server." The same procedure applies for adding "locales iso image". So that is a add from local directories/iso' s not possible! Starting YaST → Software → (... to the above error message ....) from the terminal, providing no error message. Can anyone confirm this? A beautiful Sunday still out there .... Hi Developers, Interim report ↓ My System ↓ openSUSE 11.3 (32bit) + Nvidia G210M (Driver 275.21) + kernel 3.0.0-1-desktop KDE SC 4.7.0 from KDF Repositorys Upgrade went to resolve dependencies (uninstall kdepim kdepim-runtime-long + long + kipi-plugins-long) without error! Proposed system reboot after failed log on to KDM. KWins Plasma crashed and refused to start. In this directory ↓ ~ / .kde4/share/config / I deleted everything with "plasmarc", "plasma appletsrc" etc was named. Then startet also KWin with plasma after a reboot with a new surface. Was not a problem for me, because I behave like ever had with KDE 4.5 ;-) Kontact (4.7), Kmail (4.7) with all the trimmings, makes for me no problems. It did not previously when I used the KDE PIM-46. Now only needs to be delivered to the network-manager for openSUSE 11.3 after, then I'm totally happy! Good work guys, thank you! Just to say Thanks to the devs for 4.7 (installed earlier today).[1] Running without a hitch on my 11.4 (32-bit). Thanks again. [1] Only serious gripe I have is that I had to find out from another distro's mail list - not here or openSUSE-announce [what is the purpose of *.announce?] - that 4.7 was released and to learn the repo name to be able to 'dup' to the new KDE 4.7 :-( . [opensuse-kde] Unstable snapshots of KDE again in the KDE:Unstable:SC repository

As that KDE 4.7 has been released and therefore available from the KDE:Distro:Factory and the KDE:Release:47 repositories, the time has come to change the repository KDE:Unstable:SC again to it's natural state of holding snapshots of the KDE Development tree. In this case the upcoming KDE 4.8. If you do not want to follow the KDE 4.8 release being developed, then please make sure that you have changed your package repositories to point to either the KDE:Distro:Factory or the KDE:Release:47 repo's for the KDE 4.7 packages. At this moment the first snapshot 4.7.40 is being build in KDE:Unstable:SC and the expectation is that this will be published in one or two days. Don't they test this stuff anymore? I've upgraded to KDE 4.7 from OBS. I've sat through 25 minutes of idunnowhat, akonadi/kmail "ressource migration". the result: kmail2 takes several minutes to start up, does not fetch mail from my imap accounts, and can't even delete a mail from the one folder that *does* show new mails. Hi, I have been updating my 11.4 installation from KDE:Release:46 every once in a while, but lately I am getting this error: bash# zypper -v dup --from kde46 3 Problems: Problem: problem with installed package NetworkManager-kde4-0.9.svn1192577-2.3.x86_64 Problem: kaddressbook-4.4.11.1-3.10.x86_64 requires akonadi-runtime < 1.5.40, but this requirement cannot be provided Problem: akonadi-runtime-1.5.3-91.1.x86_64 requires libakonadiprotocolinternals1 = 1.5.3, but this requirement cannot be provided Problem: problem with installed package NetworkManager-kde4-0.9.svn1192577-2.3.x86_64 Solution 1: Following actions will be done: keep obsolete NetworkManager-kde4-0.9.svn1192577-2.3.x86_64 keep obsolete NetworkManager-kde4-libs-0.9.svn1192577-2.3.x86_64 I can ignore this (and a couple of similar problems further on), but I am little afraid to break my system :) Is there an inconsitency in the repo or an issue in rpm dependencies? This situation lasts for a couple of things, so it's most likely not a matter of waiting for another rebuild. I have been going through and fixing rpmlint errors in the KDE packages. There are a few classes of common error, however, I have been hesitant to fix, and want some feedback on, usually because they require changes to which packages are actually available: 1. "no-binary: The package should be of the noarch architecture because it doesn't contain any binaries." These are usually for the base packages of particular groups, like "kdeutils" or "kdetoys". However, in practice these pretty much only include documentation. I would personally be inclined to eliminate the base packages and instead have noarch documentation packages in these cases. Phonon is an exception, it actually has real files, but I could probably make a phonon-base package. Currently it is unclear from the naming what the base packages do, if anything, so besides eliminating warning and reducing the amount of space used it would also be clearer. 2. "shlib-policy-missing-suffix: Your package containing shared libraries does not end in a digit and should probably be split." This appears when shared libraries appear in a non-library package. This would involve splitting off a new library package for the shared libraries. This is simple in some cases, but in others is a bit more difficult, such as bluedevil where there already is a libbluedevil. In such cases I could call it bluedevil-libs, libbluedevil-extra, libbluedevilgui, or something like that depending on the context. 3. "shlib-policy-missing-lib: Your package starts with 'lib' as part of it's name, but does not provide any libraries. It must not be called a lib-package then. Give it a more sensible name." This is the opposite of the previous, but requires fully renaming the package. 4. "devel-file-in-non-devel-package (Badness: 50)" These appear when a .so (NOT .so.x or .so.x.x) file appears in a non-devel package. This is usually a trivial fix, but I haven't fixed this since I don't know if it is correct or not (especially since in some cases the error appears in packages that already have a -devel sub-package). In some cases I would need a new devel rpm, would it be alright to split those? 5. "package-with-huge-docs x%: More than half the size of your package is documentation. Consider splitting it into a -doc subpackage." This should be self-evident, it just requires splitting a doc package, but once again it requires splitting off a new rpm. 6. "explicit-lib-dependency: You must let rpm find the library dependencies by itself. Do not put unneeded explicit Requires: tags." I don't know whether these are in here on purpose to fix dependencies that are not automatically detected, or if they are errors. The most common seems to be libkeduvocdocument4. 7. Obsoletion of KDE 3.5.1. A lot of packages obsolete KDE 3.5.1. Is this correct? It seems to be a bit of an odd number to pick, is there a reason for it? What was the last openSUSE version to ship with KDE 3.5.1? In practice I don't think this obsoletion will accomplish anything, it won't obsolete any version of KDE 3 people are still using. I am thinking we probably should not be obsoleting or providing KDE 3 packages at all, those are handled by the KDE3 repos. 8. "non-executable-script: This text file contains a shebang or is located in a path dedicated for executables, but lacks the executable bits and cannot thus be executed. If the file is meant to be an executable script, add the executable bits, otherwise remove the shebang or move the file elsewhere." Should I make these executable? 9. Commented commands in .spec file: Do you think that commands that have been commented out can be removed? A special case: akonadi obsoletes itself, since it used to follow the KDE numbering scheme (4.x) but now follows an internal one (1.x). 4.x obsoletely 1.x. RPM has a way to handle this, it is called an "epoch". This has precedence over the version number, and defaults to zero. I could bump the epoch to fix this problem, and perhaps in other similar cases. Otherwise there doesn't appear to be a clean way to fix this. Some things outside of my control: RPMLINT has some bugs that should be fixed in more recent versions, including one that prevents building some python packages. Would it be possible to have a link to the factory version? It would probably not be published, only used for building. Should we be publishing update-desktop-files? It seems to be something that is only used for building. Finally, I think it would be worthwhile thinking about what groups particular sorts of packages are in. They are currently completely inconsistent for relatively similar packages. Hello, I just was about to install the recent packages from http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/46:/kdepim46/KDE_Re… but akonadi complains it needs akonadi-runtime 1.6.0 . But there is no akonadi-runtime version 1.6.0. What to do now? Will SUSE deliver akonadi-runtime 1.6.0 soon? Is there one? I do a lot of installation testing on different hardware. Because it's just testing, I don't configure any users in most cases. That means for me, there is only root. Consequently, there's no need for a login manager, so unless it's the login manager I'm testing, startx needs to work. Plus, when repeatedly restarting X, retyping a password gets to be a pain. As many know, manual configuration of X when automagic fails to get the job done acceptably can be a big pain. Since KDE3 was dropped from official support, some things have apparently changed that fail to consider KDE3 still exists. So, I'm finding it often the case that startx fails to get me into a KDE desktop session, even though /usr/bin/Xorg is 4711. So far, I've been unable to figure out why it works on some and not on others. I suspect it's interplay between settings in ~/.dmrc, /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager, and /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager, such as DEFAULT_WM and DISPLAYMANAGER in the latter two, but am having a hard time understanding which and when any of the following are necessary or appropriate: null kdm kdm3 kdm4 kde kde3 kde4 startkde startkde3 startkde4 kde-plasma I almost never install any DTE other than KDE, much less actually use anything else. Are there any plans to include QWT in KDF? QWT provides Qt widgets for scientific applications, including Labplot and scidavis. These are currently in contrib and packman, respectively, but I think would be good in KDE:Extra. The reason QWT would be good in KDF rather than KDE:Extra is because several of the KDE bindings support QWT bindings, making it easier for scientific people to include plots and technical widgets in scripted KDE and Qt-based applications (which are often quicker and easier to make than compiled ones). [opensuse-kde] Header-only or "safe" ffmpeg package

A number of multimedia-related libraries and programs have a soft dependency on ffmpeg, which they can make use of for various tasks. These libraries and programs need to be built against ffmpeg to have this capability. I was told that there might be either a version of ffmpeg that only includes headers or one that is stripped down and "safe" to use from a legal perspective available somewhere in openSUSE. I was hoping to see if these could be used for building these packages. Hi Martin, I checked the KR46 repo and this has been published last week Friday, so today you should have gotten the updated versions. I checked the dependency for kaddressbook and these are correct. It should require akonadi-runtime versions >= 1.6.0 and < 1.6.40. Please check the version of kaddressbook that it wants to install. The correct version should be kaddressbook-4.4.11.1-6.1 If this is not the case then I guess the mirror from where you are trying to update from is not up-to-date itself. Hey all; KDE 4.7 rc2 is now in KDF but Dirk will be merging 4.7 into KDF soon so you'll have to stick to your 4.7 rc2 packages until 4.7 final is released. KUSC is now back to the wild wild KDE so you may want to make sure to revert back to KDF and disable the repo for until final 4.7 is ready. Also we started merging KDE 4.7 rc2 back to Factory. [opensuse-kde] Duplicate mails in Kmail IMAP mailbox

I'm using Kmail to read my mail from an IMAP account. I have Kmail installed on my desktop, which runs 24/7, and on my laptop, which is on intermittently. When the laptop comes online, I see multiple copies of messages appearing in the desktop inbox. When the laptop disconnects, they disappear, leaving only one copy of each message. My HTC Android phone never shows any duplicate copies, so I think it is some sort of interaction between the two running instances of Kmail. I have installed the RC2 packages from KUSC and the following branding packages. kdebase4-runtime-branding-openSUSE-11.4-125.2.i586 branding-openSUSE-11.4-2.1.noarch kdelibs4-branding-openSUSE-11.4-125.2.i586 kdebase4-workspace-branding-openSUSE-11.4-125.2.i586 kdm-branding-openSUSE-11.4-125.2.i586 If I create a new user via YaST and log into KDE with that new user: - the panel is too wide (clock outside the screen) - there is a dis-functional MozillaFirefox.desktop icon in the panel - there is a konqueror icon in the panel - there is no pnm in the systray (rpm is installed) - kickoff is too small for the apps list, i.e. shows a scroll-bar Does anybody else see that too? Heya all; This status report summarises the status of KDE 4.7 in KDE:Unstable:SC repository. What we did; - Added a patch to KMail2 to speed up with huge folders - Added a fix for nepomuk/strigi index problem - Update to new akonadi What still remains as a problem: - KMail2 fails to start in some configurations (investigation ongoing) Its still building, but please test and report back, thank you! P.S: I'll be away for the rest of the week so I might not reply back as fast as I'd like to do. [opensuse-kde] work space folders opening when mouse pointer above

Hi , I have several sub folders in my work space folder. With suse 11.3 these folders were opened automatically on the KDE 4.4 desktop when the mouse pointer hoovered above them. With 11.4, KDE 4.6, a mouse click is necessaray. [opensuse-kde] akregator broken in 4.6.5

On my 11.4 system, I have added the 4.6 repo: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Release:/46/openSUSE_11.4/ and since yesterday's update, akregator is broken. [opensuse-kde] korganizer has no default calendar

korganizer-4.4.11.1-3.9.x86_64 I have mucked up my calendar :^( I do not see many previously scheduled dates and fail to make new dates with the msg "no calendar found". I have ics/vcs backups for repair but cannot precede.
