[opensuse-kde] Missing dependencies list
Here is a list of missing dependencies from KDE:Distro:Factory builds: I have put together a list of missing dependencies for packages in KDE:Distro:Factory. They fall in a few categories: --- 1. Never heard this one, is it used for Ubuntu's Unity integration?
mobile-broadband-provider-info: Used by NetworkManager-KDE4. Database of mobile broadband service providers. Needed for Mobile Connection Wizard support in Broadband Modem Management. This is currently available from packman.
This is useful, we should check the license and copy the package if possible.
OpenConnect: Used by NetworkManager-KDE4. Cisco AnyConnect compatible VPN client. Needed for OpenConnect support in Network Management. I do not see this in OBS at all.
Same for this one.
CLucene1: used by strigi for some sort of searching. Only the 0.9 branch of clucene is available in openSUSE.
This could easily result in a pile of bugs. Need to check what other distributions are doing.
liblocation: used by marble, presumably for some gps stuff.
Sounds useful.
libmms: Used by kdnetwork and kradio. Needed to build KGet mms support. This is currently available from packman.
Useful again but wonder if there is any patent problems.
openjpeg: Free library for JPEG 2000 image compression. Required by the Krita JPEG 2000 filter. This is currently available from packman.
Might be missing due to patent problems.
Spnav: Used by koffice (and calligra). Required by SpaceNavigator 3D mouse plugin. This is available from several home: repositories.
Doesn't hurt.
DCMTK: Used by koffice (and calligra). Required for processing DICOM structured reports. This is available from several home: repositories.
Ditto.
Cuda: Used by opencv, presumably to offload operations onto the graphics card. Available from several home: repos.
Ditto.
--- 2. Dependencies that are available in OBS, but are not in opensuse-factory:
Qwt: Used by kdebindings-smokeqt, Perl-Qt4, and Ruby-Qt4. Needed to compile Qwt5 bindings, providing scientific widgets. It is also used by several scientific packages. It is available in contrib.
This can be in KDF I think. It should be moved out of contrib anyhow.
QtZeitgeist: Used by kdebase4-runtime and phonon. Zeitgeist and QtZeitgeist is needed for resource tracking. I have a working package for this that is now in kde-extra, it can be incorporated at any time.
This is OK for KDF.

QNtrack: Used by kdebase4-runtime. Network status tracking library. Provides data input for Solid network status. It is available from the Network repository, amongst other places.
Should be submitted to Factory.
ffmpeg: Used by amarok, k3b, kdemultimedia4, kradio, opencv, and strigi. Headers are available, I can see if these will build with them
This is very important if we can get a stub ffmpeg which can be overwritten by a working one.
lame: used by k3b and kradio. Needed for the lame mpf encoder encoder plugin. Headers are available, I can see if this will build with them.
Ditto.
mad: used by k3b. Needed for the mp3 audio decoder plugin. Headers are available, I can see if this will build with them.

Any idea why it was removed?
UniCap: Used by opencv, presumably for video capture. It is in Intel:Moblin2, but hasn't been updated in a while.
OK.
--- 3. Dependencies that are available in openSUSE-factory, but are not currently being used in the package (I can add these easily enough if there is no reason not to):
R: Used by Cantor. A free software environment for statistical computing and graphics. Backend to use R with Cantor.
Can this be a separate package?
kwebkitpart: used by choqok. Not sure why this isn't being used.
Sounds obvious.
libtidy: used by kdebase4. Gives the Konqueror validators plugin the ability to validate HTML.
konqueror-plugins can depend on this.
qvoronoi: used by kdegames. Part of the qhull package, needed for the irregular grid from the Palapeli Slicer.
Sounds ok.
libkexiv2 and libkdcraw: used by kdegraphics-thumbnailers. Required to build the RAW thumbnailer

OpenGTL and QtGTL: Used by koffice (and calligra). Requires for various operations. I understand that this is currently broken and a fix is in-process.
OpenGTL doesn't support llvm 3.0 :(
podofo: Used by krename.
OK.
libcfitsio0 and libindi: Used by kstars. Once again I am not sure what is going on here, KDF has these packags and assume they are there specifically for kstars.
This should be in, looks like a bug.
libgps: used by marble for gps operations.
OK.
eigen: used by openbabel and opencv.
Ditto.
dbusmenu-qt: used by quassel for the system tray.
Ditto.
python and wxwidgets: used by openbabel, apparently for the guy.
Ditto.
polkit-qt: used by python-kde4.
Ditto.
XInput device properties 2.x: Used by synaptiks. I assume this is available, although I don't kno in which packages.

I'm not 100% sure, but it appears likely. Are we supporting that?
mobile-broadband-provider-info: Used by NetworkManager-KDE4. Database of mobile broadband service providers. Needed for Mobile Connection Wizard support in Broadband Modem Management. This is currently available from packman.
This is useful, we should check the license and copy the package if possible.
I was wrong, this is already in factory.
OpenConnect: Used by NetworkManager-KDE4. Cisco AnyConnect compatible VPN client. Needed for OpenConnect support in Network Management. I do not see this in OBS at all.
Same for this one.
Somehow I missed this as well, it is in Meega:Netbook.
CLucene1: used by strigi for some sort of searching. Only the 0.9 branch of clucene is available in openSUSE.
This could easily result in a pile of bugs. Need to check what other distributions are doing.
Okay
liblocation: used by marble, presumably for some gps stuff.
Sounds useful.
Apparently this is not useful outside of cell phone.
libmms: Used by kdnetwork and kradio. Needed to build KGet mms support. This is currently available from packman.
Useful again but wonder if there is any patent problems.
I don't know, someone would need to ask about the legal issues.

home:frispete:KDE:Distro:Factory has this. It was updated recently. Is frispete on the opensuse-kde team?

Do I do this or should someone on the opensuse-kde team do it?

This is very important if we can get a stub ffmpeg which can be overwritten by a working one.
Someone needs to move the packages into an "offical" repo, then.

No.

kstars requires version 0.8.0 or higher but 0.6.2 is in K:D:F. I have 0.8.0 already in my home repo. I'm holding it because there are two patches that I have submitted upstream regarding two rpm post-build check errors ("bufferoverflowstrncat" and "no-return-in-nonvoid-function") and I'm waiting for a response if they are correct. I can make a submit request if someone can check them.

There are two problems here: a) Not every app will load those libraries at runtime. So we would be creating a hard dependency against Packman. b) Packman is not an static repo. If you build something against ffmpeg it will work with the Packman version when that openSUSE version is released... but 18 months later there is no warranty that Packman will be still packaging a binary compatible version of ffmpeg. What I did is create also the home:RedDwarf:multimedia (and subprojects) repo, with some openSUSE packages built against home:RedDwarf:fakePackman. I added the needed %bcond_with to every package I knew needed of the Packman libraries (I had no idea Amarok used ffmpeg, probably it's "new"), so I just need to create a _link file*. I have been running those packages for years without any problem, but I don't really use them so much... Notice that in most cases Packman is already doing exactly the same that I do in home:RedDwarf:multimedia, so it's not really so interesting. * https://build.opensuse.org/package/view_file?expand=0&file=_link&package=k3b-11.4&project=home%3ARedDwarf%3Amultimedia%3AKDE&srcmd5=67c8e1c6c77ebea206d67513bf3671da -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

IMO, not needed, that's the ubuntu attempt to reinvent the wheel (and duplicate what kstatusnotifier already does) [...]
CLucene1: used by strigi for some sort of searching. Only the 0.9 branch of clucene is available in openSUSE.
I would object to this, CLucene 0.9.21 is currently the minimum recommended version, CLucene > 1.0 is still being tested
liblocation: used by marble, presumably for some gps stuff.
The marble build system is not really clear but this dependency seems only useful for Maemo devices and is supposed to be replaced by libgps/geoclue once available for this platform
openjpeg: Free library for JPEG 2000 image compression. Required by the Krita JPEG 2000 filter. This is currently available from packman.
I think this one was removed from O:F a couple months ago.
system-config-printer: used by kdeutils. Some of its modules (cupshelpers.py and ppds.py) are optionally used by printer-applet for auto configure of new printers. You should also install the udev rules from system-config-printer.
This package is already required. Despite what the build log says, it's not a build requirement iirc.
dbusmenu-qt: used by quassel for the system tray.
Likely means the kdelibs4 package needs fixing to add libdbusmenu-qt-devel as a required package for libkde4-devel Christophe

I'm working on this.
CLucene1: used by strigi for some sort of searching. Only the 0.9 branch of clucene is available in openSUSE.
Was someone going to check what other distributions are doing with this? I has been a dependency for a few releases now at least.
liblocation: used by marble, presumably for some gps stuff.
Apparently only needed by cell phones
libmms: Used by kdnetwork and kradio. Needed to build KGet mms support. This is currently available from packman.
openjpeg: Free library for JPEG 2000 image compression. Required by the Krita JPEG 2000 filter. This is currently available from packman.
These likely have patent issues. Has anyone checked with legal to confirm this? Apparently using the packman headers is not possible. Maybe someone should talk to the developers about making it so these can be installed separately, like k3b codecs, if this isn't already possible. Then they can be distributed in packman.
Spnav: Used by koffice (and calligra). Required by SpaceNavigator 3D mouse plugin. This is available from several home: repositories.
Accepted into KDF, now the dependencies just need to be enabled (and does it need to be submitted to opensuse:factory now?)
DCMTK: Used by koffice (and calligra). Required for processing DICOM structured reports. This is available from several home: repositories.
I think I am getting close to having this working.
Cuda: Used by opencv, presumably to offload operations onto the graphics card. Available from several home: repos.
This is not open-source software, like the nvidia drivers.
Submitted to KDF
QtZeitgeist: Used by kdebase4-runtime and phonon. Zeitgeist and QtZeitgeist is needed for resource tracking. I have a working package for this that is now in kde-extra, it can be incorporated at any time.
Accepted into KDF
HUPnP: used by kdelibs. Allows Solid to provide information about UPnP devices on the network. This is available in several places, including KUSc. I have built kdelibs with it and it builds fine, looking at the history I think this was worked on a lot for KDE 4.7.
Ditto
QNtrack: Used by kdebase4-runtime. Network status tracking library. Provides data input for Solid network status. It is available from the Network repository, amongst other places.
This is submitted to factory but not yet accepted.
ffmpeg: Used by amarok, k3b, kdemultimedia4, kradio, opencv, and strigi. Headers are available, I can see if these will build with them
Same issues as libjpeg and libmms above
lame: used by k3b and kradio. Needed for the lame mpf encoder encoder plugin. Headers are available, I can see if this will build with them.
Ditto
mad: used by k3b. Needed for the mp3 audio decoder plugin. Headers are available, I can see if this will build with them.
Ditto
FreeTDS: Used by koffice (and calligra). Open source implementation of the TDS (Tabular Data Stream) protocol. Required by Kexi Sybase Migration driver. Available from several OBS repos, including devel:libraries:c_c++.
This is submitted to factory but not yet accepted.
XPlanet: Used by kstars for rendering planets. This was in openSUSE but removed, now it is in hamradio.
I asked the opensuse-factory mailing list about this but haven't heard back. It seems it was unmaintained for a while but it recently received an upstream update.
UniCap: Used by opencv, presumably for video capture. It is in Intel:Moblin2, but hasn't been updated in a while.
I am having some problems with this. Apparently linux/videodev.h is in a different package in openSUSE:Factory. In 11.3 and 11.4 it is in kernel-devel and linux-glibc-devel, but it doesn't seem to be in either of those in factory. Does anyone here have factory installed? Could you please open the YaST2 software installer and search provides for "videodev.h" and let me know where it is? I'm working on this.
Cool.
CLucene1: used by strigi for some sort of searching. Only the 0.9 branch of clucene is available in openSUSE.
Was someone going to check what other distributions are doing with this? I has been a dependency for a few releases now at least.
This is too risky for now, we can ignore this.
liblocation: used by marble, presumably for some gps stuff.
I'll check the patent status.
Spnav: Used by koffice (and calligra). Required by SpaceNavigator 3D mouse plugin. This is available from several home: repositories.
Accepted into KDF, now the dependencies just need to be enabled (and does it need to be submitted to opensuse:factory now?)
Yes please submit to Factory ASAP.
DCMTK: Used by koffice (and calligra). Required for processing DICOM structured reports. This is available from several home: repositories.
I think I am getting close to having this working.
Good!
Cuda: Used by opencv, presumably to offload operations onto the graphics card. Available from several home: repos.
This is not open-source software, like the nvidia drivers.
-> ignore.
Submitted to KDF
Accepted and forwarded to Factory.
QtZeitgeist: Used by kdebase4-runtime and phonon. Zeitgeist and QtZeitgeist is needed for resource tracking. I have a working package for this that is now in kde-extra, it can be incorporated at any time.
Accepted into KDF
Please forward to Factory.
HUPnP: used by kdelibs. Allows Solid to provide information about UPnP devices on the network. This is available in several places, including KUSc. I have built kdelibs with it and it builds fine, looking at the history I think this was worked on a lot for KDE 4.7.
Ditto
Forward this too.
QNtrack: Used by kdebase4-runtime. Network status tracking library. Provides data input for Solid network status. It is available from the Network repository, amongst other places.
This is submitted to factory but not yet accepted.
Legal will take some time.
ffmpeg: Used by amarok, k3b, kdemultimedia4, kradio, opencv, and strigi.
Ditto
Don't know how easy to solve this, sadly :/
FreeTDS: Used by koffice (and calligra). Open source implementation of the TDS (Tabular Data Stream) protocol. Required by Kexi Sybase Migration driver. Available from several OBS repos, including devel:libraries:c_c++.
This is submitted to factory but not yet accepted.
Legal check again.
XPlanet: Used by kstars for rendering planets. This was in openSUSE but removed, now it is in hamradio.
I asked the opensuse-factory mailing list about this but haven't heard back. It seems it was unmaintained for a while but it recently received an upstream update.

QtIndicate or qindicate: Used by choqok, clementine, . An indicator library.

Okay

Do we need a Requires for plasmoid-networkmanagement?
Urgs! Please do NOT. Making it a "Requires" would mean the normal Desktops get it too.
And what makes you think that desktops should not get it? I believe users should get every possible way to be online from every machine they own.
Ok. Let's be very clear: Not everybody has a desktop with a 2TB+ Storage. Some of us want to run a small box like a "Asus EEE Box" or similar and thus are limited in terms of Storage, RAM and CPU power, nonetheless we'd like to run a fresh-of-the-press DE like KDE SC 4.7 atm. So in terms of this, the package "mobile-broadband-provider-info" should only needed by any package that has a direct need for it, like the one that provides "mobile-broadband-modem". No WiFi, BlueZ, Ethernet, ATM, DSL package can win anything beyond wasted space from the package "mobile-broadband-provider-info". If you install a mobil broadband modem (GSM/UMTS), then to Require the package mobile-broadband-provider-info makes sense. Anything else is wasted resources. I can't find a rule anywhere in OpenSUSE.org that wasteing resources is wanted or needed. This is not Microsoft or Apple, this is Linux-OS by OpenSUSE. Have a nice weekend, Yamaban.
