[opensuse-kde] KDE 4.7 status
Hey all; 4.7 rc2 is now served in KDE:Unstable:SC, tested on 11.4 & Factory. Still need someone to test on 11.3. Here are the known problems so far: - Kmail2 might give an error message on startup saying "KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: Failed to fetch the resource collection." This is reported upstream. - Nepomuk fails to index anything. This will be fixed next week. - Weather applet crashes on Factory. This a problem with the new gps library. I'll debug this in coming days. Have fun testing. Doesn't happen with mysql. The bug report only talks about mariadb
- Nepomuk fails to index anything. This will be fixed next week.
Is this why virtuoso just keeps scanning over and over again? Incidentally, which is the recommended backend, and what are the differences between virtuoso, redland and sesame? The package descriptions aren't very helpful in selecting the right backend Anders -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

This is not the same problem as MySQL one.

Yes, for now just suspend indexing.

Only virtuoso backend is officially supported. Hello development team, provide the best thanks for the KDE 4.7. RC2 "Release1" My system: openSUSE 11.3 (32bit), Standard Kernel Update to KDE SC 4.7 RC2 without problems. Reported dependencies can be resolved (remove language pack PIM4.6.1 + phonon-backend-xine?). The error report:
- Kmail2 might give an error message on startup saying "KMail encountered a fatal error and will terminate now. The error was: Failed to fetch the resource collection."
is in openSUSE 11.3 available. Kmail2 is not usable. Nepomuk (11.3) works without problems. Weather Applet (yaWP) also works without problems. Although Sunday is, the sun is shining and you could enjoy a drink at the pool, you have provided KDESC 47 RC2 ..... Wow, thank you for this! I already explained countless times that shipping a Phonon back-end that CAN'T EVEN SEEK is insane. VLC works better (a version without patented codecs is aready in the repos) and libvlc only takes a few additional KByte on the CD. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

After discussions with Phonon upstream developer and VLC developers, its clear that we should at least provide a phonon-backend-vlc package which in turn can be replaced by a fully working package via official VLC for openSUSE binaries. Hope this makes everyone happy now ;) Regards. -- Ismail Dönmez - openSUSE Booster SUSE LINUX Products GmbH Maxfeldstr. 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany GF: Jeff Hawn, Jennifer Guild, Felix Imendörffer, HRB 16746 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

+1 just me at the lack of kdm theme. The theme appears incomplete. Black background with a small air loggin window. The exchange of kdm theme not working. I am seeing weird distortion around the menus in firefox. I originally thought this was an NVidia issue, but now I am seeing it on a machine with an ATI card. I haven't seen the problem on any KDE applications, and it only happens with desktop effects on. I could post a screenshot, but I don't know if attachments are working. It might have something to do with the new shadow effect for 4.7. It doesn't seem to depend on the theme I use for firefox, though. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Disabling desktop effects does fix it. However, I tried disabling every desktop effect that I thought might be related, as well as disabling openGL 2 shaders and disabling direct rendering, and none of that fixed it. However, there is no longer an option to disable the shadow effect (it doesn't even appear in the list of desktop effects). This effect, however, would seem to me to be the most likely culprit. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

However, there is no longer an option to disable the shadow effect (it doesn't even appear in the list of desktop effects). This effect, however, would seem to me to be the most likely culprit.
Can you report it upstream and CC me (ismail@kde.org) ? I am seeing weird distortion around the menus in firefox. I originally thought this was an NVidia issue, but now I am seeing it on a machine with an ATI card. I haven't seen the problem on any KDE applications, and it only happens with desktop effects on. I could post a screenshot, but I don't know if attachments are working. It might have something to do with the new shadow effect for 4.7. It doesn't seem to depend on the theme I use for firefox, though.
Attachments should be working, or you can use susepaste.org
Here is a screenshot of the problem on a tooltip. It also happens with menus.
Looks like a corruption indeed, can you turn of kwin effects and see if that fixes the problem? If yes, can you pinpoint which effect causes this?
Thanks!

It appears to be a problem with the oxygen-gtk theme. I tried changing to other themes and the problem disappeared. Therefore I submitted the problem there: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=277613 I have cced you but I am adding the bug here so the mailing list has it. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

- Nepomuk fails to index anything. This will be fixed next week.
- Weather applet crashes on Factory. This a problem with the new gps library. I'll debug this in coming days.
Have fun testing.

Is there a way to disable the showing of source packages in the KDE add/remove software interface? It shows two versions of almost every package, one source package and one binary. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org

Nevermind, I found it. It was under Filters. It might be good to make it the default to not search for source files, since I doubt most ordinary users would want to do that and would just get confused by the duplicate entries. Also, it appears the search is case-sensitive. So for example a search for "cad" and a search for "CAD" return totally different sets of results. I am not sure this is expected behavior, but I don't know if it is an openSUSE or upstream issue. -Todd -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-kde+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-kde+help@opensuse.org
