[opensuse-kde] Removing Dolphin launcher?

Hi Fellow KDErs, I've been trying to remove the Dolphin and Firefox launchers from the bottom toolbar without sucess. Every time after booting I remove them and the next restart/boot they are back again. Is there some way to remove them permanently? Thanks, Tom -- “What we do for ourselves dies with us. [opensuse-kde] What is causing dolphin to do a slower refresh of the folders on first time start up?

Hello List mates, Has anyone noticed how much slower the folders seem to refresh. When starting dolphin on first time start up, I'm seeing the folders appear white and then turn blue as they are refreshing. We did not see this in earlier version of KDE i.e openSUSE 11.4. I am using an older computer from 2007 with a quad-core Q6600 and 4GB of RAM. Is this a problem with Qt and how can this be fixed? Cheers! [opensuse-kde] KMail in offline modus, but it is only one resource and a click should bring it online, but does not

I am using KDE 4.9.2. One of the IMAP resources I have in KMail is going down during the night. So in the morning I find this resource in offline mode (don't know when this was introduced, previously it just reestablished the connection when the the server was up again). When I click on the inbox I get a blueish gray screen with KMail in big letters and a message telling "Offline KMail is currently in offline mode. Click here to go online . . .". Two remarks: KMail itself is not in offline mode, it is only that particular resource. Clicking on "here" does nothing. Anyone else having this problem? Should I file a bug report upstream or in openSUSE? -- fr.gr. As indicated also on the IRC channel, this Wednesday another KDE team meeting was scheduled to start at 17:30 UTC. Unfortunately due to conditions at work, I can not participate in this meeting. Therefore I would like to call upon somebody from the KDE team to moderate the meeting and to create the minutes, etc. An alternative, which I do not really like, would be to move the meeting to next week Wednesday 3 November. Hi, With SR#126198 (https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/126198) the qt- gstreamer package was removed from KDE:Qt and seemingly replaced with multimedia:libs/gstreamer-0_10-plugins-qt. IMO, this was a bad decision: qt-gstreamer is not a gstreamer set of plugins but « [...] a set of libraries and plugins providing C++ bindings for GStreamer with a Qt-style API plus some helper classes for integrating GStreamer better in Qt applications. » Sounds to me that KDE:Qt was a wiser choice for this package. Moreover, the new package name is confusing, there's no relation between some Qt bindings for GStreamer and the others gstreamer-0_10-plugins-* packages from multimedia:libs. Thoughts ? Christophe

Hello, I thought that this wiki page http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:KDE_improvements#General_Improvements was official and that everyone agreed on this change. If this wiki page is valid then we have to put it on a more central place and if its not then we have to modify it. Back on the topic the combined usage of apper and yast creates fragmentation. Which is not good for the users. Hi, in openSUSE 12.1, KDE 4.7-4.9 I set up touchpad to be turned off automatically when typing. I'm not able to find such possibility in openSUSE 12.2 with KDE 4.9. Did that, logged out, logged back in, and the only difference is the addition of the third line about "Connecting to deprecated signal", wherease before I disabled Nepomuk I was getting only the two "QDBusConnection" lines. [opensuse-kde] kmail works great on desktop, very slow on laptop

Hello, As I am using kmail in KDE 4.9, I found that it installed really well and easily on my desktop, but not so well on my laptop. Here is probably the principal difference - the desktop was a clean install of opensuse 12.2, while the laptop was an upgrade. Both were done from the DVD. The difference in performance is this. On my desktop, when I set up my accounts, it took all of about 5 minutes (ok, maybe a little longer, but it finished quickly) to download all 5000 emails that I have in different folders into kmail (I have offline mode selected, and I am using IMAP on a gmail account). On my laptop, I am going on 9 hours now and it is still working on it. Another difference in performance is that on my desktop, I can select 50 old emails that I don't want anymore, and hit delete, and within 5 seconds they are all gone. On my laptop, I select just one email, hit delete, and it takes a really long time - I waited 20 minutes and then gave up and aborted the deletion. All my settings for kmail are exactly the same, as I had it next to the desktop and set up the accounts and identities exactly as I had them on the desktop. So, short of having to do a clean install of opensuse 12.2, which I really don't want to do as I have several other programs that took a lot of work to install, what might be the cause of this? Are there some networking libraries or something that I need to look at? My laptop is also running on wireless, while my desktop is plugged in. However, my speed in browsing the internet in firefox is the same for the desktop and laptop. I appreciate any hints on solving this one. Also please let me know what further information I need to post. My email accounts are all gmail IMAP, and they were set up with the autodetect on port numbers standard for gmail (IMAP port 993, SSL/TLS, Clear text authentication; SMTP port 465, SSL, LOGIN authentication). -- G.O. Ok, I am giving kmail another crack, as it seems to be working much better in 4.9 and opensuse 12.2 The first thing I would like to figure out is, how do I make a new message window open up in the middle of my screen? When I click on new message, it opens in the upper left hand corner, which is fine, but I would prefer it in the middle. I could not find the particular configuration option to adjust the default value for where the new message window opens up. Thanks! -- G.O. [opensuse-kde] Dolphin, smb and vlc

Not sure which list I should ask this on so I thought I would start here. I have a mythtv box at home which has the videos folder shared via smb. If I browse to this folder via dolphin using smb://mythtv/videos/ I get a difference between what happens in Kubuntu and what happens in openSUSE (12.2, KDE 4.9.2). In Kubuntu if I click on a video, vlc opens and the video starts to play. In openSUSE if I click on a video vlc opens but it doesn't play it - instead the notification widget in the system tray shows me it's downloading the video. How do I change this work the same way that Kubuntu does. I've checked all the VLC settings I can think of, as well as the video file associations and there does not appear to be any differences between Kubuntu and openSUSE. [opensuse-kde] branding packages in KDF

I currently don't have rights to change anything in KDF, so here's what needs changing: when I submitted the branding packages from KR49 to KDF via a sr, they apparently got copied but should have been links. Anyway, branding-openSUSE_12.2 needs to link to openSUSE:12.2:Update as does kdebase4-openSUSE_12.2. As you are probably all aware, the latest stable KDE telepathy (ktp) is made available in KDE:Extra for openSUSE 12.1. There is a problem, however, is that the call ui package depends on more recent gstreamer packages than are currently available for openSUSE 12.1. This was fine for a while. However, now updates to the gstreamer packages have broken compatibility with libpurple, which is needed for other ktp packages. This means it is currently not possible to install the call ui package on openSUSE 12.1 anyway. As far as I can see, there are two approaches to handle this: 1. Disable the call ui package for 12.1. This will also allow us to remove the gstreamer stack from KDE:Extra 2. Add the necessary libpurple packages to KDE:Extra I am currently leaning towards 1. There are two reasons. First, there are many libpurple-related packages that would need to be linked. Second, as time goes on we are probably just going to have to keep adding more and more packages to keep compatibility working. I am planning on KDE:Extra to the latest ktp 0.5.1 packages. The version if libraw in KDE:Extra is ancient, over a year and a half old. Is there a reason it is still using that version rather than using the default version or linking to the version in the graphics project? It is also enabled for all repos, although it doesn't build for more recent releases. Hello SuSE peop;e On mu 12.2 OS with KDE 4.8, Jovie, the KDE interface for a screen reader for fesstival or espeak will not launch. Neither from the menu, the icpn, or a terminal. Nothing happens, no messages, no nothing. The screen reader is very important tp me as I am severely sight impaired. Ideas. help, advice? HI, I just installed 12.2 then upgraded to kde-4.9.1, so far so good but kmail filtering is still broken :( Selecting all msg (ctrlL+a) then apply filters (ctrl+j) works only on opened msg... Hi, I really wonder, what https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=291138 is all about, apart from being a major PITA, when it comes to using some current KDE4 SC with NFS mounted homes. Interestingly, the search activity does show the icons as expected, but with any desktop icon display methods, they just appear as gears. [opensuse-kde] YaST not displaying available updates.

I'm just asking if anyone has seen a problem with YaST --> Software Management where it does not show the updates to KDE4.9.2 from Repo #2 below in blue. If I click on a package and select versions, it does show the repo 2 (KDE4.9) as available. Also it does not matter if the priority is 98 or 99. A search of bugzilla did not turn up this problem, several simular items were found but did not totally fit. Below is my repo config. If not I will report it if further seach does not turn up anything. Hello, Given the number of packages that provides a python3 version is increasing, in my opinion it would be nice to provide for 12.3 a package that builds PyKDE4 for Python 3. The underlying bindings should be already Py3-compatible, and Python 3 versions of their dependencies are already available in KDE:Qt. So without much ado, some questions: - did someone try this already? - if so, would they be wiling to submit their work to KDF? - Has anyone got any experience in packaging Python projects that offer Py2 and Py3 versions a the same time? (http://www.kde.org/announcements/announce-4.9.2.php) The last few days the openSUSE KDE team has been preparing the update to KDE 4.9.2 and we would like to announce that the packages are available for the openSUSE 12.2 and 12.1 distributions. Hello, This November the Plasmate is going to be released. Plasmate is the KDE Plasma SDK. [opensuse-kde] Changes to the KDE Repositories

The last few weeks there was a discussion on the mailinglist with regards to the existance of KDE:Distro:Stable and it's function. During the last KDE team meeting (last week Wednesday), this topic was discussed and the following was agreed: 1) If the maintenance team agrees, then we will provide minor updates (e.g. 4.9.x releases) through the normal update channel for the openSUSE releases. The repository from where these updates are delivered is the corresponding KDE:Release:xy repo. 2) If the maintenance team agrees to point 1, then the repository KDE:Distro:Stable no longer has a function nor reason to keept it. Therefore this repository will be deleted. 3) The remaining repositories (KRxy, KDF and KUSC) will be build against lesser openSUSE targets. This to reduce the load on OBS and also due to required changes it is sometimes impossible to keep a newer release building on an older release. The target is to support a maximum of 2 openSUSE releases (current and current-1). For KDF and KUSC this would mean to support Factory and the current release). This leads to the following: KDE:Release:46 Build for openSUSE 11.4 KDE:Release:47 Build for openSUSE 12.1 and openSUSE 11.4 KDE:Release:48 Build for openSUSE 12.2 and openSUSE 12.1 KDE:Releaes:49 Build for openSUSE 12.2 and openSUSE 12.1 KDE:Distro:Factory Build for Factory and openSUSE 12.2 KDE:Unstable:SC Build for Factory and openSUSE 12.2 This coming Tuesday the above schedule will be activated. At first we will disable the build for the "to-be dropped" targets and about 1 week later we will delete the targets from the above repositories. Currently builds in KDE:Release:49 and KDE:Distro:Factory have been disabled as that we are preparing for the upcoming KDE 4.9.2 release. Hello all, Does anyone know how to configure KDE4 to start Dolphin when a USB thumb drive is inserted? I have been playing around with Settings->Device Actions and Settings->Removable Devices. So far, I have managed to automatically mount the thumb drive. What I would really like is to automatically launch Dolphin to the USB's mount point. I am using: openSUSE 12.1 KDE 4.9.1 "release 561" Any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated!
