I just reinstalled SuSE 8.1 on a machine thinking I could go to the LinuKs page and download the Liquid RPM and have the liquid "theme" running, only to discover that the old version 0.9.5 for KDE 3.0.x is no longer there, replaced by 0.9.6 which is only for KDE 3.1. I know this is kind of trivial, but is the old RPM still available anywhere? System Message Window under X

Hi list, When I tried KDE 3.1 beta 2 I got a little white message window under X when system messages appears (like shutdown messages). Now under 3.1 stable I miss this feature. What is to do? Thanks Martin PS: My System: SuSE 7.3 KDE 3.1 Kernel 2.4.20

kde 3.1 causes applications to crash and icons to be not shown

Hi there, I've downloaded KDE 3.1 final RPMs for SuSE 8.1 from the kde web site, and after exerincing the same trouble (that sill remains) those from the suse.com ftp site (supplementary-dir). I then had the situation that my user still showed kde 3.0-design, but root was obviously seeing keramik already. I then used the control center and the desktop-settings-wizard (einrichtungsassistent) respectively to mirate my user to keramik. These "troubles" have three facets: 1) -I don't see all the icons, i.e. i see a blank space where log off and lock should be 2) -Almost every start of a program (e.g. konqueror) tells me "kdecore (KLocale): WARNING: found no definition of PluralForm for de" 2) -Far more important: applications keep crashing. This does for example affect (kde 3.1's) konqueror as soon as i start to download a file, or kate as soon as i click on the "open" button. Kopete does not start any more, although i updated it to 0.51 when it started sigserving at start. Can anybody help me and/or does anybody know about those problems? KDE 3.1 update information

I just noticed on LinuKS: SuSE Linux KDE Service the following has been posted. KDE 3.1 packages are available for SuSE Linux 7.3 - 8.0. Konquer 3.1 quirks?

Hi all, I am curious if anyone else has noticed this anomally with Konq 3.1 yet. Although much improved, there are times when I want to try the KMozilla feature from the View part of the menu. As there was a new version supplied with all the files, I guessed that would allow that part to still work, but alas, it does not. If I select to view a page as Mozilla in Konq, all I get is a blank page! I see the page being loaded, but it fails to display anything. Now this could be due partially to the fact, I am running the Mozilla version from Mozilla.org instead of the SuSE install. That comes to me as the most obvious thing, but I thought I would throw it out to everyone to see if anyone has experienced the same thing? Wait, as a matter of fact, I do have the SuSE version installed as well, since Mozilla installs to /usr/local rather than the usual SuSE locations. But this brings up another thought, I have the SuSE 8.0 versions installed due to the java plugin problem, so maybe that is affecting it? Your thoughts & experiences please. Hallo, Ich möchte einen vncserver während des Bootvorgangs (in Runlevel 5) starten der eine KDE Oberfläche anbietet (Suse 8.1). Wenn ich mich allerdings mit dem vncserver verbinde, sehe ich nur einen Bildschirm mit rotem Hintergrund (der Suse-KDE-Root-Hintergrund?) und einem Mauspfeil. Es gibt keinen Login und keine Bedienelemente. Ich habe ein Script "vncserver" in /etc/init.d/ erstellt und verlinkt (insserv). Das Script wird als /etc/init.d/rc5.d/S13vncserver ausgeführt beim Booten. Das Script startet im Prinzip nur den vncserver mit Parameter :1 und zeigt das auch ordentlich auf demBildschirm während des Bootens an, außerdem beendet das Script den vncserver wenn der Rechner heruntergefahren wird. In der Datei /root/.vnc/xstartup steht nur die Zeile "exec /opt/kde3/bin/startkde &". Hello there, I recently got a copu of suse 8.1 and i downloaded kdevelop as it is not on the cd`s. However if i try to install it using yast it complains about some doc`s en libs missing. Is there an rpm out there that has all of these? I can`t seem to find all individual packages. greets Cat

After 3.1 upgrade problems

After upgrading to 3.1 I get the following errors: On xconsole I get kdm_config[974]: unrecoqnized section mane [Desktop 0] at /etc/opt/kde3/share/config/kdm/kdmrc:1 When starting KsCd I get error-KsCD Unable to create directory /opt/kde3/share/apps/kscd/cddb Check Permissions If I click ok on this and then click start on KsCD window tunes play fine. On booting after logging in to kde I receive a box with Sound Server Fatal Error: /tmp/mcop-dbtrol is not owned by user. Any ideas on these. TIA David

external screensaver instead of kde - own; does not work

Hello! (I just posted this question in German. I am sorry, I forgot it is an English list) After installation of SuSE 8.1 I am using also KDE as GUI. Now, I would like to use the external screensaver "xscreensaver" instead of the KDE-own one. Because xscreensaver changes the "pictures" itself during the current pop -up of screensaver. In opposite to KDE -as far as I know- which chooses one "picture" for the current moment and changes it after next time popping-up only. Please correct my if I am wrong (what to do to adjust?). Nevertheless I deactivated the screensaver via KDE Control Center and added "xscreensaver" in .xinitrc. But it does not work. The program starts, but does not popping up after adjusted time elapsed (parameters are to find in ~/.xscreensaver). Is there something more to adjust to achieve success?
