KMail won't print

Hi. I have SUSE 8.2 pro, kmail 1.5.1, KDE 3.1.1, cups, remote lpd printer. and I cannot print from kmail. Kmail locks up with the formatting page and print cancel button showing and cannot be killed without exiting X. Other programs print ok. Any suggestions appreciated as I would like to print an email without cut and pasting the contents to a text document. Thanks, steve

(SuSE 8.1 pro, xfree86 4.2.0, win4lin patched kernel 2.4.19-308) I use apt/synaptic for my updates. I used Synaptic to upgrade to 3.1.4 for suse 8.1 the other night, when I checked in the morning Synaptic had apparantly hung. I logged out and back in. At this point I recieved an error (in an x-window) "Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation." I clicked Okay and kde loaded as it should. I checked my ~/.xsession-errors and found the following... kdeinit: relocation error: /usr/lib/qt3/lib/libqt-mt.so.3: undefined symbol: FT_Seek_Stream startkde: Could not start kdeinit. Check your installation. Warning: connect() failed: : No such file or directory I checked /usr/lib/qt3/lib/libqt-mt.so.3 is where it should be kdeinit is in /opt/kde3/bin as expected so I copied all of the new files to a new dir and ran # rpm --replacepkgs -Uvh *.rpm in the directory, after awhile kde pretty much locked up. (no mouse or keyboard control) I reset the machine, then # init 3 # cd /dir/with/upgrade # rpm --replacepkgs -Uvh *.rpm recieved an error message I don't remember # rpm --rebuilddb # rpm --replacepkgs -Uvh *.rpm worked this time # /sbin/ldconfig # /sbin/SuSEconfig # reboot At this point I trust that all of the files (qt, kde 3.1.4 upgrades) have been installed properly but I still get the error message. It only happens at login (for all users, not just me) and everything else seems to be working as expected. I'd like to get rid of this error but at least things seem to work. Any Ideas? PS In regards to Richard Bos question, The packages you found are the same as those I find available in synaptic, I guess some haven't been updated yet. apt-get holds back 10 kde packages

Hello List, I wanted to upgrade to 3.1.4 with apt-get, but it wants to keep back 10(!) kde packages: kdeadmin3 kdeedu3 kdegames3 kdegraphics3 kdelibs3 kdelibs3-devel kdemultimedia3-devel kdepim3 kdetoys3 libwmf Since this includes some core packages, I aborted the upgrade. I assume there are dependencies from some packages I installed separately. Can I find out what packages are causing this? Maybe uninstalling those packages by hand, upgrading, and re-installing would help. Kostas

Konqueror Bookmarks as IE favourites?

Hi, is there a way to export konqueror bookmarks as IE6 favourites? Font problems with KDE 3.1.4 (anti-aliasing)

Hello! Has anyone experienced strange font changes after installing KDE 3.1.4? Mostly it is that fonts that previously were anti-aliased are not any more, especially in Konqueror, but I also had problems with the message display in KMail which used a much too small font. I reverted back to KDE 3.1.3 because of this. I suspect it´s a change in the qt libs, so I think it was a bad idea to base KDE 3.1.4 on QT 3.2.1. Or is something wrong with my setup? Did anyone else have problems? Greetings Uwe

No copy'n paste from vmware to kde

Hi out there, after upgrading my KDE 2.2.2 to 3.1.3 from the September 4th releases, the copy and paste from my vmware 3.x to any KDE application does not work. A copy and paste from vmware to a non-KDE-application like nedit works. Is this a known problem, and what can I do to make it work ? Kde 3.1.4 QT Problems Geramik

Hi, i am experiencing problems with kde 3.1.4 and qt 3.2.1 the upgrade with apt-get went fine. Up till the point where i started a GTK2 app in my case mozilla-firebird and all i could see was the ugly GTK Theme instead of Geramik. I am sure it is to do with the qt update but i am not sure how to fix this problem and i cannot find any infos on the web about this problem. Under Gentoo i use switch2 to change the GTK2 Theme does a similar app exisit for suse or has anyone got another solution to fix this anonying problem. Cheers Simon

Export Konqueror bookmarks

I found how to export the bookmarks to .xml but the file created is not readable easily: for example Mozilla displays a message like this: ' This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. Junk Mail.

Dear List Members, Having lost a lot of important business mail, I am enquiring as to whether members have found a successful way of dealing with 'junk'. Could it be that 'Evolution' is being selective and not including some mail, or has my enthusiasm for deletion got the better of me! Very fortunately I also have Mutt on board and that which was lost, was collected. Has anyone tryed Spamassasin or other utility for selecting out junk and more importantly does it work. problem with konqueror after update of kde

After having updated kde to version 3.1.4 using the suse rpms and installation with yast i encounter a problem with konqueror. I get an error message telling me that konqueror is not able to deal with text/html files. I cleared the link between konqueror and html and fille in the data agin in K-center. Without positive result. Can somebody please help me? Regards Hans

Hi All! I have some problems on my SuSE 8.1 after updaten to KDE 3.1.4 bye using YaST2. Problems: - Kicker do not start automatically - I cant start some application by klicking the icon on the desktop or panel. When i start the application by using the shell it works fine without any problems - When i want to access on a nfs-server konqueror needs more than 1 minute to start / list I did not have this problem with KDE 3.1.3! - Is there any way to downgrade my KDE version to KDE 3.1.3? - I didnt find the old packages in ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/u… Any ideas? I also have a problem since KDE 3.1.0: I Cannot mount any nfs-server bye klicking the icon on the desktop. I allway have to use the dialog "Mount" ( left mouseklick on icon ). Thx! Did anyone already install kde-3.1.4 on suse-8.1 As far as I can determine some packages are missing, with the most important one being kdebase3: Inst kdebase3 [3.1.1-76] (3.1.3-75 SuSE:8.1/stable) Further more the following packages are not updated either: kdeaddons3-kate: 3.1.1-27 -> 3.1.3-17 kdeaddons3-kicker: 3.1.1-27 -> 3.1.3-17 kdeaddons3-konqueror: 3.1.1-27 -> 3.1.3-17 kdeaddons3-sound: 3.1.1-27 -> 3.1.3-17 kdeartwork3-sound: 3.1.1-39 -> 3.1.3-68 kdebase3-kdm: 3.1.1-76 -> 3.1.3-75 kdebase3-ksysguardd: 3.1.1-76 -> 3.1.3-75 kdebase3-nsplugin: 3.1.1-76 -> 3.1.3-75 kdenetwork3-chat: 3.1.1-86 -> 3.1.3-23 For the above packages 3.1.4 versions are available for suse-8.2. I've tried to update to KDE 3.1.4 from updates on SuSE and wrecked KDE Started with libs YaST Asked for newer Qt Installed newer Qt ("static" from elsewhere on SuSE) Retried to install libs YaST asked for newer Qt again Decided this must a transient issue and forced installation May I ask for suggested ways forward: Can I try and rebuild the RPM database? Can force install KDE 3.1.1 from SuSE 8.2 DVD and start again? May I ask why the process above (prior to the "force") didn't work? TIA

No Effect on screenlock with kde 3.1.3

Hi out there, after installing the RPM's of KDE 3.1.3 unter my SuSE 7.3, the ScreenLock takes no effect. But only after a couple of days. After a new start of KDE the Lock-button locks the screen - but after 3 or more days I cannot lock the screnn by activating the LockButton in the tray and also with <ctrl-alt-del>. Is it an known bug ? Hallo, ich habe kde 3.2 alpha mit konstruct installiert und es hat wunderbar funktioniert. Ich wollte jetzt aber die xsession anpassen um im kdm die Auswahl zwischen 3.3 und 3.2 zu haben. Ich bekomme es aber nicht hin. Google liefert mir lauter Ergebnisse welche andere Aufrufe in der xsession haben als die bei mir vorhandene. Kann mir jemand einen Tip geben? Hi, I have a problem with my mouse. When I restart my Computer, the device is not reconiced by de SO, but if I Unplug and Plug the mouse, this begin to work fine, and another problem that I have is that when configure the weel and restart, this configuration is not present. Check /etc/sysconfig/kernel: INITRD_MODULES="reiserfs usb-uhci input hid keybdev mousedev evdev" I know that generally, I could load the last three in on their own and their parents load first, but I figured it would cover the bases and leave little room for error. ;) Having the modules completely loaded by the time hotplug was called at boot made the devices already available for use. If I removed them from initrd, and set the hotplug timeout higher, I still noticed the devices were not detected. Firebird as defaultbrowser

Hi, do anybody know how to make Firebird the deafult browser? I allready used the ControlCenter. I added Firebird to text/html. But now Konqueror still invokes before Firebird does, so both are running. I do not think that a mistake when replying a message it is as annoying as posting a polite message and getting as answer an arrogant and inept reply - as happened to Filippos. If you, Ben, get annoyed so easily maybe you should seek professional help. And if some German posters have such a big problem with following the rules it would be advisable for the moderators to check this thing out. As well, this post is not directed towards Germans, but they are the only ones posting in their native language in an English mail list. I cannot see any messages in Bulgarian or Spanish!!! It's about rules and respecting the others! That's all! kscd and suse 8.2 errors

Hi, I've recently upgraded to suse 8.2 and discovered that kscd won't restart after being quit with the x windows close button. The interface disappears, but the process is still alive and keeps other kscd sessions from starting. Quitting with "ctrl+q" or the button on the interface works fine. Also, this error message is repeated about 15 times when kscd is started: kdecore (KAction): WARNING: KAction::plugAccel(): call to deprecated action. This is using kscd 1.3.3, kde 3.1.1, and SuSE 8.2. Any help would be appreciated, thanks. Darby

kicker gone after apt-get upgrade

My apt-get upgrade for kde almost worked yesterday... It's just that the kicker is missing now. On log-in kde brought back all running sessions ok, but somehow I lost my kicker, and I would like to get it back as I had it (at least my menu structure). I had 3.1.3 and the upgrade was only security related (I think) and definitely not to 3.1.4 Any idea how to get my kicker back?

Modem not found

Hi all, I have an existing machine with SuSE 8.2 installed. After installing an older US Robatics X2 PCI modem and booting, the modem is not detected. I ran lspci -v to check for it. Is there a way to force SuSE to detect the modem or will I have to reinstall? TIA Stu Gillis

Lower resolution ofr icons in KDE 3.1

Hi! I used to use KDE 3.0 with Xfree 3.3.6 and the icons were very simple (like Win98) but in KDE 3.1, the icons have too resolution (the efect is like WinXP). What can i do to have icons plainer? sorry for my bad english ;) Oscar

Susewatcher stubbornly stays red

Hi - I have a problem with susewatcher: It stays red even after an update. Here is what I tried so far to turn it green: - I checked "Include installed patches" in YOU, no updates to be seen (and it doesn't install any if I go on) - Called up the messages window from susewatcher - Tried to stop susewatcher by right clicking it in the applet tray and choose "Quit", but it refused to quit. Then I killed the susewatcher process: Success. Started susewatcher again from the shell and got the message: ERROR: Communication problem with susewatcher, it probably crashed The (red!) icon turned up in the tray anyway and seems to work (i.e. I can start YOU, look at the messages etc.) - Then I got desperate and simply checked "Download all patches" in YOU, which didn't help either (and why should it?) My guess is that something needed is not running (thus the error message), but if so, what? I don't believe that it comes from killing it and then starting it again, because it is also red when I boot the machine. At my workplace PC everything just works fine (same configuration, but installed from scratch) So, does anybody have a hint for me? Otherwise I fear I will turn red (and stay red). Thank for your help, but this configuration it´s OK. The problem is: when I restart the computer and the KDE start, the mouse it´s in the midle of Desktop and does´nt work, but if I unplug and plug the device, the mouse work fine. KMail and Spell Checker

I'm using Suse 8.2 with KDE 3.1.3. KMail is my email client but when I click to Spellcheck I get a message: "ISpell/Aspell could not be started. Please make sure you have ISpell or Aspell properly configured and in your PATH." I've checked in Control Center and it specifies Aspell as the default spellchecker and Aspell is installed. How can I get spellchecker to work? Thanks,

Firebird and Kmail

Hello! I am using Kmail and MozillaFirebird. Everything ist fine besides the cooperation of these programms. As Firebird is my default browser html-files are to open with it. Also Kmail starts Firebird after clicking a link. But it gives not the link to Firebird but a local path of a copy of that link. This copy is made right after clicking the link and before starting Firebird. What is wrong? Thanks, Johannes

Lisa and Exchange Questions

Two simple questions about using a Linux Laptop on a Windows 2003 network. Q1: I can get lisa to give me a list of the computers on the network. But, my passwork is never accepted, and none of the computers on the network are showing with names, only IP names. I've adjusted lisa to use nmb too, with no difference. (Yes, it is installed) Q2: I've tried to use the exchange plug-in. So far, no success. Has anyone here succeeded in this? Got any tips? messed up file types

Hello List. I messed up my file types somehow. I tried to add additional programs to handle mp3 files. Now Konqueror does not recognise files with ending .mp3 correctly anymore. If I add an additional .ok or anything else, Konqueror obviously does not use the ending but recognises the file differently, and there the file is recognised correctly as mp3 and right-click -> Attributes (? I don't have english locale) can present e.g. id3 tags, and right-click->Open with gives a nice selection of apps to use to open the file. When I go into the Konqueror settings for file types (under audio) I get something like 5 or 6 different ones for mp3: - For starters I get 2 file types called mp3 which have as application only RealPlayer8 (however, when I right-click on a .mp3 file under Konqueror I get XMMS first then RealPlayer8, then nothing), it seems that RealPlayer8 installed this file type. - I also have file types: mpeg (twice) with apps: Xmms and RealPlayer8, mpeg3 with no app, mpegurl (twice) with RealPlayer8, and mpeg with RealPlayer8 - I then have file types with an x- in front (MIME???): x-mp3 (twice! one with icon the other without) with a plethora of applications, like xmms, Kaboodle, Noatun, xine, RealPlayer8, xmms queue, Kid3, KMPlayer - There are also x-mpeg with RealPlayer8 only, x-mpeg3 (no app), xmpegurl (twice, with different file endings, but the same list of apps: KMPlayer, Noatun, xmmx queue, Kid3, RealPlayer8), x-mpeg-url (no app). seems that one of the file types x-mp3 is used by Konqueror when it automatically recognises the file without looking at the filename ending, as this is the list of apps I get with right-click->Open with. Can someone help me sweep up this mess? Kostas

kaudiocreator quit ripping

Hi, all -- I've been using kaudiocreator for a few days and have ripped and encoded a handful of CDs on my SuSE 8.1 system. It isn't Matthias's tweaked LAME, and I have to run it as root to see the disc, but I'm happy enough. This evening, though, it suddenly quit on me. I ripped a CD and it went all the way through but did not encode any of the tracks (whereas it usually starts encoding a track as soon as it is ripped), and now after starting over it will not even rip anything, complaining "unknown protocol: file" in the popup window and telling me "ERROR 3: couldn't create slave" at the command line. I didn't touch anything; I swear :-) I had ripped a couple of CDs right before getting to the "problem" CD and didn't change anything for that one, and now I can't do anything period. VAIO touchpad

Hi all I am trying to get a VAIO touchpad to give me the sliding feature under SuSE 8.2. Under Windows, it comes with a feature of sliding the finger along the vertical edge or horizontal edge controlling the H or V scrollbar. Is this feature supported under LINUX ? Has anyone got it to work ? So far, I tried setting the protocol to "GlidePointPS/2" in XFree86Config file. But it still functions like the normal mouse, no sliding effects. Thanks in advance, Vale.

Upgrade from 3.1.1 to 3.1.3

Hi, I am trying to see how do i upgrade the KDE from current 3.1.1 to 3.1.3. I see that 3.1.3 is the latest on Suse KDE download site. Till Now my Yast Online Update(YOU) didn't tell me anything about this new version of KDE. I am using the download version of Suse 8.2. Would this be the reason why the YOU never told me about the KDE 3.1.3?? If i want to upgrade to 3.1.3 can i just download the files from the Suse KDE site & install them??. Lost key assignments (backslash)

Good morning, I have installed SuSE 8.2 pro on a machine with a belgian layout keyboard. My keyboard has been as followed configured: Section "InputDevice" Driver "Keyboard" Identifier "Keyboard[0]" Option "MapName" "Standard Keyboard [ pc104 ]" Option "Protocol" "Standard" Option "XkbLayout" "be" Option "XkbModel" "pc104" Option "XkbRules" "xfree86" EndSection In terminal mode (without X11 stuff) all works fine. But once under running under X11 I have lost the key with the < > and \ on it. At the SuSE support site they say to configure the keyboard as a pc105. It resolves my key assignment but by backslash becomes a '|'. Even stranger when I select my keyboard layout in de SuSE configuration panel and test my keyboard in the keyboard test screenfield it works ! And when I close the SuSE configuration it till works everywhere..... until I reboot. This behaviour occurs only under KDE. Other windowmanagers works fine Has somebody an idee on it ? Thanks a lot. ps. I have installed all latest patches from SuSE.
