Warum SuSE das nicht mit in die .rpm's intergriert, kann ich nicht nachvollziehen, zumal es ja kein Problem eines einzelnen ist. - Me, too had to gather information from several sources. .rpm's can do all that automatically. Why SuSE does not implement this feature into the .rpm's I do not know, although it is not an individual problem. Hi, eine Frage, die - wie ich dachte - wohl schon öfter gestellt wurde, aber im Archiv der Liste und allen möglichen FAQs kann ich nichts finden darüber: Was muß ich tun, um den KDE3 zum Starten im KDM zur Auswahl zu haben und was, damit KDE3 auch startet nach einer Ümrüstung von SuSE 7.3? Font Devastation

So I got it off the web and used KControl|FontInstaller to install it. I was logged in as a user, but invoked KControl using a root console. (Suse7.3 with all updates) After installing the font, suddenly all the writing on my screen became gibberish. KDevelop 2.1.2 & QTDesigner arbeiten nicht zusammen

Hallo, Ich habe mein SuSE 8.0 auf KDE 3.0.2 aufger=FCstet. Nun läuft der QTDesigner im KDevelop nicht mehr. Er stürzt beim starten mit segmentation fault ab. Wenn ich den Designer selbst Übersetze sehe ich aber die KDE Widgets nicht un bekomme diese auch nicht angezeigt. Ist das Problem bekannt ? Gibt es hilfen ? 3.1 Alpha - Anyone tried/trying it?

Hey, Just wondering if anyone's installed 3.1 alpha yet on a SuSE setup, with there being no RPMs and all. If so, any problems getting the tarballs installed? Using both 3.1a and 3.0.x on the same computer, or just 3.1a? Planning on maybe giving it a try, since 3.1a looks and sounds sweet from what I've read and snapshots, and I've read a few people wrote it's very stable for an alpha. Instability

. Is there any word on 8.1? Let me tell you what happened today. I am working on a complex project for the job I do. I had spent about 2 hours collecting info and developing about 15 streams of thought, to integrate in the project I'm working on. I clicked on Desktop C to apply these and... nothing happened. I was still on A. Processor was screaming at 100%, but nothing worked anymore. With <ctl><alt>F1 I got console1 and top. It was kdeinit. I could go back & forth between the consoles but nothing else. So no shutting down Win2k in VMware, no closing my projects, no orderly shutdown, nothing. I doubt the above conveys how disruptive and costly this is. Now, not only do I have to start over, but I am angry as well. When will 8.1 be out? -- You could get a new lease on life -- if only you didn't need the first and last month in advance.

window positions

Using suse7.2, xfree86 4.2, kde2.2.2 I thought it would be nice to have some of my windows open in the same place on the screen each time I opened them. To do this I clicked on the small icon in the top left corner of the window and selected "store settings" The windows now open in the same position each time, but unfortunately they also open on the same screen that they were saved on. This doesn't do me any good because now I have to search for the screen that the window is on. How can I revert to the old setting? (ie unsave the window position settings.) Or better still How can I get the window to open on the current screen but in the position I desire? TIA -- dh

konqueror crashes

Hi, I have some complains about konqueror, may be there are some hints what to do. I am a long term KDE user and I am pleased with the overall behaviour. But I think konqueror is not really stable since it switched to KDE-3. In KDE-3.0.0 it was rather horribly. In 3.0.1 the crash frequency has been reduced a lot, 3.0.2 has not improved the crash behaviour in my SuSE-8.0 enviroment. At least 3-7 times a day it crashes as a webbrowser and roughly one times as a filemanager. I am quite confident, that it is not related to any of my hardware configurations, because it appears of several completely different machines. Especially my wife is constantly complaining about konqueror-webbrowser. So she switched to mozilla or netscape-4.79, which are much much more stable. Personllay, I am not interested in switching, because I really like the features of konqueror. In my point of view it is much more important to have a real stable application, than an application which has a score of features but which crashes frequently, when using them. So I really, really, hope that konqueror becomes soon stable. Is it a remedy to compile from CVS, and if from which branch, and is it possible to compile only konqueror or at least only one package? Remote mounted DVD

Hi What are the options for: A) mounting a DVD or CD drive (well, any removable media, for that matter) over NFS. Ideally, I'd like a client to automount an NFS share which would trigger an automount on the server from the exported directory to the device. B) With a DVD drive in a server, watching DVD video on a remote client. Can something like xine access the content over a network, or would I need to stream it with something like ogg-vorbis? What speed Ethernet would be needed to make it practical? Is 10BASE-T enough, or would you need 100? Cheers Dylan
