Dear kde'rs ... I'm planning to organize a booth during Akademy at Brno (if akademy team give their green light). With the help of our now famous booth boxes, I should have tons of stuff to spread there. Who will be going there, want to help a bit on the booth (Sat, Sun) mostly ? I'm also looking for KDE Framework 5 demo and or iso to burn on the usb sticks Who can help to create it ? [opensuse-kde] Kdm disabled in bios after apper upgrade

I have a HP laptop that I have a dual boot (win 7 and Suse 13.1 that has System management Bios, on it. Everything was working fine until a Apper upgrade now KDE won't start. I am running KDE 4.13.3. Looking through the error messages on start up, I get a message that kdm is disabled by bios. I have tried going into the bios but there are no settings other than picking startup order of the drives, and a system check. I ran the system check and it came back fine, I am using grub for startup, both windows and Linux starts up but no kde. I tried the desktop recovery mode start up with the same result. My gwenview has been broken for some time now and I think I finally figured it out. I develop to qt5 but of course I use kde 4 so I have both installed. I noticed this while poking around, finally getting to the bottom of a nasty stack trace that somehow lead KIPI to load qt5 gui from qt4 core. rpm -ql libkdecore4-4.13.2-55.1.x86_64 /usr/lib64/libkdecore.so.5 /usr/lib64/libkdecore.so.5.13.2 /usr/lib64/libkdefakes.so.5 /usr/lib64/libkdefakes.so.5.13.2 /usr/lib64/libkpty.so.4 /usr/lib64/libkpty.so.4.13.2 /usr/share/doc/packages/libkdecore4 /usr/share/doc/packages/libkdecore4/COPYING /usr/share/doc/packages/libkdecore4/COPYING.DOC /usr/share/doc/packages/libkdecore4/COPYING.LIB /usr/share/doc/packages/libkdecore4/README How in the world did 5.13.2 get there? I looked over the current spec file (and last 2 recent changes) and I couldn't find anything obvious. kdmrc makes obvious how to choose sizes for main greeter texts headline, std & fail. What's required to configure the greeter's menu text to be the same legible size as the std text? http://docs.kde.org/stable/en/kde-workspace/kdm/configuring-kdm.html doesn't say. Hi, on my openSuse 13.1 machine, I did a zypper dup after I have added http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/Distro:/Factory/openSUSE_13.… now the plasma-nm applet does no longer load, as a symbol is missing: ldd -r /usr/lib64/kde4/imports/org/kde/networkmanagement/libplasmanetworkmanagementplugins.so ... undefined symbol: _ZN14NetworkManager12connectivityEv (/usr/lib64/kde4/imports/org/kde/networkmanagement/libplasmanetworkmanagementplugins.so) undefined symbol: _ZN14NetworkManager17primaryConnectionEv (/usr/lib64/kde4/imports/org/kde/networkmanagement/libplasmanetworkmanagementplugins.so) undefined symbol: _ZN14NetworkManager20activatingConnectionEv (/usr/lib64/kde4/imports/org/kde/networkmanagement/libplasmanetworkmanagementplugins.so) The symbols should probably be in /usr/lib64/libNetworkManagerQt.so.0 as plasma-nm depends on this, but that lib does not contain the symbol. Hello List Mates, I'm seeing many thumbnail packages in KDE4 Extra being created separately. Is it possible to merge all thumbnails into a single package? (1) I hear & acknowledge your points. (2) It's proving challenging for me to not have it come across as 'Linux is insignificant, why should we bother'. I'm trying, but ... (3) Superior #s do not make a superior species. Take cockroaches vs. people, e.g. Tho, it's arguable ... And truly, with due respect, and intent to simply provide ... feedback and some incentive ... perhaps if Mozilla was a bit more openly cooperative users other than just/primarilyFirefox-on-Windows-desktop, then perhaps there'd be more of those users, no? Spend some time *in* KDE community -- users are giving up on Firefox, with a giant 'Meh'. "Here", we're an enterprise shop that uses Linux on the Desktop, as are some other, rather significant companies. We'd use Mozilla products much more widely if issues like this languishing bug that causes all sorts of confusion for our users, and is easily fixed by siwtching to Chrome across the company, didn't exist. (We won't talk at all about the abandonment of unfinished Thunderbird ... that stung us badly, and still does; guessing we're not alone). >From *our* perspective, which I certainly recognize is different than yours, KDE & Linux are much broader reaching, enterprise imperatives for a company like us, and our users, than "which browser" we use. Particularly with one or more serious alternatives available. A point to keep in mind is that - there's a community of users who DO want this fixed, including an Opensuse developer who HAS a (hacky) fix - and that the common thread has been, if not is, that -- just can't get any interest at Mozilla. Tought to fix the problem in Mozilla product when there's noone willing to talk AT Mozilla. Or, if what you say is true, and continues to be, that KDE support -- and perhaps Linux, too -- is not a priority, then a clear statement of those missing-priorities would be certainly helpful. This issue -- of improving KDE + Firefox integration, generally, and of getting Firefox to use Dolphin, specifically -- has languished for a long time. It has, after all, been percolating, unresolved, for ~ 12 yrs now. Atm, it's basically dead & inactive. I'm hoping that that can be reversed. If "you" are still interested in good/solid KDE+Firefox integration, read-on -- IMO, not getting to a decent solution has not been for lack of trying/interest: Bug 140751 - Integrate Mozilla with KDE https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=140751 Bug 528598 - provide a class to check for KDE environment and to interface with kmozillahelper https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=528598 Provide better Firefox KDE integration https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/494067 Bug 528510 - [Tracking] Port OpenSUSE KDE Integration for Firefox https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=528510 Firefox on KDE https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mozilla.dev.platforms.linux/XKyWG8N… (I'm sure there are more ...) As of this date, there's still no solution that works consistently well. Opensuse's patches are the closest to it (cref packages: "kmozillahelper", "mozilla-kde4-integration"), & have been intermittently available/functional in Opensuse, as well as ported to Ubuntu, Arch, others. But, even the Opensuse devs say they're not happy with their own, 'hacky' solution. And, unless I've missed it, the "right people" simply aren't talking to one another. A "good" solution will need devs -- at least one each -- from KDE, Mozilla/Firefox & Opensuse/other distro devs, to agree that this should get done, and actually talk/work with one another to do so. They certainly seem willing to work with KDE & others -- but it will NOT happen alone. Hi, [ I've cc'd this to multiple lists to garner interest; ultimately, I believe the solution needs to be in/at Firefox. I'd suggest that any discussion continues @ <firefox-dev(a)mozilla.org> (https://mail.mozilla.org/listinfo/firefox-dev) ] There are LOTS of users that use Firefox on Linux in a KDE environment. For those that do, integration with KDE's Dolphin filemanager -- e.g., for "Open containing folder ..." after download -- is needed. It's been reported as a bug in Firefox 12+ years ago & has spawned multiple other bugs. There's a fix/workaround in Opensuse (pkg: mozilla-kde4-integration; https://build.opensuse.org/package/show?project=openSUSE%3AFactory&package=…) although it's not been accepted in current state @Firefox for upstream inclusion. Afaict, discussion & activity are basically dead. Atm, is still doesn't work natively in Firefox. Hacking around it DOES seem to work -- both in Opensuse packaging (though, in #ic today, another soul failed at getting THAT to work), and (for me, at least) building kmozillahelper natively for upstream's Firefox31. Multiple distros have, at various times, released pkg'd versions of Opensuse's patches -- with varyiung, intermittent success. Chrome & Chromium both seem to have worked Firefox+KDE integration out -- both integrate with KDE nicely, apparently using (?) xdg-utils. My end-user goal *here* is to get a fix into upstream Firefox, and have that picked up by the distros. To start, I hope this rekindles recognition of the need for a fix, gets the right DEVs talking to one another, and gets those who can help, to help. It's been 12+ years -- clearly something's not working, and needs grease. Hi, In search for a plasma theme I saw that we have androbit as a separate package in Extra, but androbit is also part of kdeartwork4-desktoptheme. Shoudn't these packages conflict?
