I have lost the ability to run kde as my normal user. It will run as root, but I don't like to do that. Previous to this I was able to start kde but not open kmail or xchat. opening them in Konsole told me that they had crashed and showed a seg fault then when I restarted i got the message in .X.err about. I tried fiddling with the files mentioned, m rm-ing the old file and moving the log file to the old file, or removing both, but to no avail. I can supply the xsession files if that would help. I also have old dcop servers from previous dates if that is any help. X server difficulties: addendum

I have lost the ability to run kde as my normal user. It will run as root, but I don't like to do that. kradio and 'furious' HD activity

I am running SUSE 10.1 with the latest upgrades of KDE3 (3.5.4). I noticed that when I start KRadio the HD starts 'furiously' working - don't know if something is being read by KRadio or something being written to disc. This activity doesn't stop - until I shut KRadio down. Anyone know why the HD goes into a state of hyper-activity when KRadio is started and, more importantly, how to stop this activity? Login problem on SuSE 9.3; possibly related to KGpg + gpg-agent

Lets try Again !!! ---------------------------- Greeting'z, I have been trying to fix this since Tuesday 09-05, due to stormy weather, I shutdown before leaving for the weekend, normally I rarely logout, let alone shutdwn. Login (from KDM) is ok, while loading kde, (splash at stage: "restoring session") it freezes, all user procs seem stuck in stop/wait state (no zombies), must kill X (CAB), I can login with other (normaly unused) uids, and root ok ( I never clutter up my root desktop ), I can drop to init 3, login, startx, same result, mv .kde .kde-save and start fresh, loads fine, cp over my configs (except: Kgpg, Kpgp), and restart X, and it loads completely (although several panel applets, and superkaramba get left out) But ( this is whats driving me crazy ), if I exit and startx again, same problem (its adding the kgpg, kpgp config back in,, but a clean kde init does not have them, most likely its referenced from kmail, have not yet disabled gpg from within kmail, yet) Twice while testing ( adding one apps configs at a time), I got an error message stating that: GnuPG Agent is enabled, but the agent doesnt seem to be running, that I should disable it, or fix the agent. < see attachment (screenshot): kgpg-startup-error-1.jpg > !!!!!!!!!! WTF 30KB file limit on this list !!!!!!!! @$^*(^$##^&**%#^& !!!!!!!!!! Disabling the agent through KGpg's config did not fix it. KDE 3.5.4a update on SuSE 10.1

Dear KDE users or better KDE experts, Since an update to the latest KDE update '3.5.4a' I observe a more than nasty system on my laptop but also on my x64 desktop box, both running SuSE 10.1. I have to admit that my KDE or maybe X-server debugging knowledge is rather limited. So, ANY hint to solve my problem is highly appreciated. A short discription: When I work as a normal user, who was already using the PCs before the update without any problem, is opening several windows like firefox, openoffice, konsole, kalc, etc.(kde applications and non-kde applications!) in one desktop the windows begin to flicker and the X-process is consuming the whole CPU power, leading to a blocked system. Sometimes this is stopped without any further intervention. I can stop it by hand when I raise the window by the window bar or by resizing the window. I can start it again when I move the pointer from one window the one other. BUT: this is only related to overlapping windows! So, for daughter windows this is always observed (e.g. a YaST application started by/in the YaST main window). This error does not occur for ROOT (ok, ok I know it is not clever to use X-access for root. But root gets more debugging information for the kde applications) and also not for a user who has never used the system before the update, but his home directory was already established before the update was done. The only thing I can observe is the CPU loading (up to 100%) by the X-process. So the X-server is doing something ? No error message in the /var/log files (messages, kdm.log, Xorg.0.log). The only hint I found is in the .xsession-error file for my error-producing user which bears (maybe) some hints for the experts, but not for me. problem while logging in through kde in SUSE 9.3

hello all, I have problem while logging in(as root) through kde environment in SUSE 9.3. When I logged in as root throgh terminal, I tried kdeinit command. It reported that kded might be crashed. So i wanted to ask, what is the procedure to recover kded. Would there be any problem with Xserver itself ? Please help me for this issue. thanks & Regards, -Rishikesh.

Case sensitive - how?

Hi all! I'm trying to save a file/folder with its name only in capital letters but KDE renames it to lower case. Example: README -> readme ; INSTALL -> install How can I fix this? Thanks in advance. Carlos Gonçalves
