SUSE 10.1 KDE and XGL

Hi, i just installed SUSE 10.1, and wanted to try XGL, which i had tried in SUSE 10.0, but compiz, doesn't work correctly with KDE 3.5.2, i was hoping this was a SUSE 10.0 bug, and was hopefully to be resolved in 10.1 Now i see the same problems with KDE in SUSE 10.1: 1. When i minimize a window, this windows just disappear, doesn't go to task bar. 2. The virtual desktop navigator in the task bar is use less. Is there a plan or a work in progress to get XGL complete working with KDE ?? pd: Please excuse my bad english. -- Marcel Mourguiart

Camera and fob fight to the death

SUSE 10.0, KDE 3.5.2 level a. I got a new camera several weeks ago (Panasonic FZ30, if it matters). I end up rebooting a lot (more than Windows now) because so many (four or five) things automatically start up every time the camera is connected. There are a couple of camera-specific dialogs (DigiKam and something else), a couple of KDE Daemon windows - one that says "USB Mass Storage Interface" and shows a camera icon, and one that says "2.1G Removable Media" and shows USB thumbdrive or flash fob. Sometimes I can dismiss the ones that I don't want, OK the one that works (the USB Mass Storage Interface), and get a Konq window that lets me browse and transfer files from the camera to PC. Roughly three times out of four, however, several of the pop-up dialogs are just locked. Can't be OK'd, can't be Configured, can't be Cancelled. I end up killing stuff with KSysguard. If I want to connect the camera, I reboot and try again. Somehow, this seems to be sub-optimal behavior, though I could be wrong. By what part of the interface do I tell K-whatever to open only one dialog (one that will work) when I connect the camera? At least, how do I tell it to permit me to dismiss the ones that I don't want, without interlocking them all into uselessness? I'd prefer not to use Windows for the camera stuff. Thanks, Kevin

10.1 nonsense

Hi I've just had the displeasure of installed 10.1. It is full of gnome stuff - where has the normal KDE YOU gone? This some stupid updater in the tray where SuseWatcher used to be and you can't kill it. I cant seem to find anyway to update to KDE3.5.2. Sorry - i'm in rant mode - looks like i'll be going back to 9.3 - back to the land of total KDE. Ian

[10.1] Kate - Same Unix Process ?

Hi what happened to the option to open files in Kate in the same Unix process ? Seems like it got replaced with a bunch of session options and no compartive option ? 4 years + and I now I'm risking editing the same twice in different windows because I have to think about which window that file opened in and possibly that I already started editing - thinking is not an option after four years.

10.1: Laptop bootet nicht mehr nach Suspend to RAM

HI! Ich habe es gewagt, nach der Installation von Suse 10.1 mal "Suspend to RAM" auszuprobieren bei meinem Asus M6Ne. Er hat sich auch brav ausgeschaltet, nur nach dem Einschalten tut sich jetzt nichts mehr. Ich habe dann per längerem Drücken auf den Powerbutton (vermeintlich) ganz ausgeschaltet, aber dennoch bootet er jetzt nicht mehr. Nach dem Einschalten habe ich einfach einen schwarzen Bildschirm. Keine BIOS-Meldungen, kein gar nichts. Was kann ich tun? Danke! Thomas

kdetv is not working after mplayer

hi all. i am using on suse 10.0 kde 3.4 i am using mplayer to show videos. after i opened mplayer and watched a video. kdetv (also XawTv) is working but with black screen. (i can heard sound.) finding the job with efe@Blackbeauty:~> ps aux | grep mplayer efe 10592 0.0 0.1 1872 672 pts/1 S+ 00:48 0:00 grep mplayer i tried this but there is no mplayer process. i can watch tv after restarting my computer what can i do for this problem? regards.

Why doesn't KDE work the same

Hello, I've upgraded a Thinkpad X31 from 10.0 to 10.1: great. Then I've upgraded a T43p: every time the laptop is started all icons are jammed in the upper left corner. Any settings change has no effect (unchecked the "line up icons", locked them into place, etc... Before I restore the backup to get 10.0 back (loosing suspend to RAM but regaining the icons and the wireless), has anyone a clue as to why the icons misbehave in one case but not in the other? DMA + SuSE 10.1

Has anyone had any success setting it on for their DVD or CD players? I keep getting the error :- An error has occurred while activating the changes Cannot set required mode '%1' for device %2 Perhaps they could have at least got the error message correct. I presume %1 should have been "DMA on (Default mode) and %2 was /dev/hdc. Ian
