"[...] Section "Monitor" [...] DisplaySize 286 216 (for example) [...] so what is the difference between the 2 ways? i did always the 1st one because it was the easiest way for me to open Mozilla or Gimp meassuring the width and height and getting the dpi-values and i dont know how to get the 2nd values for DisplaySize cause the Googled answers are so frustrating and different so: is there are difference or are there only 2 ways to do the same thing?

SUSE 9.2 & KDE 3.4: kde configuration file mess

Hi all, I've got a fresh 9.2 system with KDE 3.4. But I'm totally lost in all the configuration files from KDE: If I install a new user I get a 'crippled' kicker: the clock isn't shown properly. It is of type 'plain' ( I thought this was 'digital' in 3.3 ), but the font is too large. Where, in which file, must I configure this to set this globally for all new users? Kdeglobals? Under which key? Regards Harry

KDE 3.4, SuSE 9.1 and KDVI

Hi, Just upgraded to KDE 3.4 from the SuSE supplementary repository. Everything seems to work perfectly except for kdvi. I first noticed it when trying to view a dvi document from within Kile, which crashed saying "No module (dvi) found". Then I tried to launch kdvi which would start saying "No module (application/x-dvi) found". I reinstalled kdegraphics3-tex (just in case) and dviutils. The problem persists. If I try to see a dvi file from konqueror I would still find the same error ("No module (dvi) found"). Any clues? Regards, Pedro

KDE 3.4 Niggles

Hi, Having solved my system notification sounds problem (thanks to Leen Meyer) and my mail authentification problem (thanks to Sven Burmeister), I'm now on to dealing with some more minor issues. To wit: 1) Marching desktop icons. Every time I log in my icons creep around. One row moves many pixels down. Other icons move a little. This is apart from the bug (now quite old) that causes all icons to march upward on each restart of KDE or, I'm now noticing, every time the taskbar is hid (slid to the right) or unhid. 2) An alternate desktop image flashes on the screen momentarily before being overwritten by the one I configured (a dynamic image that's updated ever 15 minutes using a custom cover script for xplanet). Number (1) is really bugging me. Number (2) is quite minor. Has anybody else witnessed these symptoms? Does anyone know what's up and how I might resolve or work around them? Thank. Randall Schulz

Update of K3B not complete

Hi, I have SuSE 9.0 and installed KDE. Later I upgraded online to the KDE 3.3 from the URL ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_9.0/yast-sour… Since K3B didn't work I updated it again today from the same site. Now I am refered to the programm k3bsetup in order to configure cdrdao. However, I cannot find this programm. So it does not seem to be part of the k3b package. How can I get it? Yes, I did ran it, and that had no effect other than revert back to the default welcome message and fonts in the KDM login screen. Hi Rene, thanks for the tip. However, it didn't work for me -:( On a side note, I've noticed that running kpersonalizer as a normal user results in a rewritten and invalid /etc/XF86Config file. KDE 3.4 files 9.2

Hi all, Anyone else ventured into installing the new SuSE KDE 3.4 files yet? Remember the problem with the system sounds concerning the new arts files last time? Well, it seems they are back with the new 3.4 files too. It seems as simple a solution to fix though. I just recompiled the SuSE src.rpm to my system and sounds work nicely again. Don't know what's happening with those arts files or what Adrian is compiling them on, but they certainly don't seem to work. As far as the rest of KDE 3.4, it's looking pretty cool. Some new eye candy and features abound. Speed doesn't seem bad, but of course, I know this will improve substantiately with KDE 4. That is what I'm hearing at least. kde-multimedia-3.4.0 missing for 9.1

Hello there, does anybody know why the packet kde-multimedia-3.4.0 is missing for SuSE 9.1. It's there for SuSE 9.0 and even for SuSE 9.2 but not for 9.1. Is there a special reason for this ? Thanks Michael
