KDE3 not running on SuSE8.1 due to DCOPserver failure

Hi! I am in the process of setting up a network based on SuSe Linux. I installed Ver. 8.1 and everything was fine. I then installed an NFS server along with NIS (my box being NIS server and an NFS client). And now I have problems logging in. When KDE starts up I get an error message, saying that I should check my DCOPserver, and whether it is running. I have already tried: replacing any .kdeX files in my $HOME -to no avail. I have seen people with similar probs on the this list, but have not found a published solution. Am desperate. HELP. until soon, hopefully. Jakob ____________________________________ Dr. Jakob J. Thanks (wasn't obvious to me :-) It was a totally clean install about 3 weeks ago, w/no crashes since and only a few reboots so I'm not sure what would have caused the corruption, but I'll give it a shot. JSSE ssl

Hi, I'm trying to use Konqueror with a Java craplet; however, it complains that it needs a JSSE SSL which, apparently, is standard with Java 1.4 but I'm running 1.3. Can I get the JSSE SSL rpm anywhere or do I have to download 1.4? TIA Roger.

KMail column sort order - can change default?

All, I keep some fairly large folders (stuff like suse-linux-english) and some other lists), so that I can search more easily than resorting to list archives. In KMail, my preferred default display is by date, particularly "Date (Order of Arrival)" with the most recent at the top. When I switch to sorting on "Subject" or "Sender", there's a multi-second delay due to thousands of files being re-sorted. When I click the "Date" column header, it doesn't resume with my preferred sort order. Instead, I have to switch through the three other Date options before it gets to "Date (Order of Arrival)" with the most recent at the top. Each re-sort takes seconds. Over time, this adds up to a lot of waiting. I haven't found a setting/configuration for this. Is there one? /kevin

KDE don't start with X-Server on Windows

Hello, I'm using KEA!X-Server from Attachmate on Windows NT. After logging in with XDM the KDE background appears and after a few seconds I get back to the list of servers which are available over XDMCP. When I'm logging in direct at the Linux server KDE starts without any problems. Here's what ~/.xsession-errors says: DCOPServer up and running. Upgrading KDE from kde.org sources...

KDE.org has recently released version 3.1rc6. I'd like to upgrade my default installation of KDE in SuSE Linux 8.1 Professional to the release candidate. This requires updating the Qt libraries as well to version 3.1.1. I can successfully configure/compile the source for the Qt library, but I'm confused about maintaining the RPM database. Even after I execute the 'make install' and my new Qt is installed, YaST still registers version 3.0.5 in the RPM database. I realize building Qt from the sources has nothing to do with the RPM database and that checkinstall can assist in creating an RPM package, but what kind of other conflicts will I be creating if I ever want to use YaST again to install software from the CD's? The same question applies for KDE 3.1rc6 (configure/compile OK, what about the RPM database)? Any suggestions on a 'proper' way to do this? Though SuSE produces some very stable packages, I would like to attempt the upgrade myself, therefore, updating from the sources would be great. Thanks to all who can assist, Fox

Hello! Short time ago I installed KDE from SuSE 8.1. After that I recognized that the screen scrolls if I reach the rightmost respectively the upmost position on the screen with the mouse pointer. I do not like that. How KDE can be configuered that the whole KDE screen content is shown on the whole physical screen (Display) without scrolling? I used only fvwm2 and was not faced to this situation before. Any help appreciated. (Resolution 1024 x 768 on 17" CRT Display) -- Rgds. _ # Michael # _
