Also, Richard Bos sez that the apt-get repository is just pointing to the SuSE KDE3.1 rpms on the SuSE site, which implies that there's a separate location in addition to the linuKs section (which by the way, is also what you get when you follow the "SuSE FTP-server" links). LinuKs still has 3.0.4, so there's 3.1 rpms somewhere else on SuSE.de....... somewhere.... So, I'm getting confooooozed again. My natural state, and I'm used to it, but... jeez it would be nice to get out of it once in a while... :-) /kevin

KDE3.1 observations

For those thinking of upgrading I would suggest waiting for SuSE to put rpm's up on their site. Benefits I've seen (in 12 hours) using the kde.org rpms: 1.) Kmail auto indexing. 2.) Some java (javascript?) web pages which wouldn't work w/ Konqueror but worked w/ all other browsers I tried now work (Yea!!!) 3.) For some reason my screen always seems clearer after an upgrade (probably a psychological effect) 4.) kdesu konqueror shows up in detail view, the way I want it to. 5.) Konqueror hasn't crashed while trying to rename a file or folder (yet) Disappointments: 1.) NO Kuickshow, I've got to find some workaround. (the new kdegraphics.rpm claims its there but my computer sure doesn't find it.) 2.) Konqueror file manager seems slower. 3.) Krusader doesn't work 4.) Theme (many/all) settings revert to default 5.) Many Icons (SuSE menu) lose their images. Nothing devastating, but basically a balance of improvements and regressions. my .02 -- dh Don't shop at GoogleGear.com!

quickbrowser in KDE 3.1

in the KDE that was with SuSE 8.1, in my quickbrowser, i had 'Open in Filebrowser' and 'Open in Terminal' menu entries on the same menu sheet as the directrory listing, after i upgraded to KDE 3.1, these commands moved to a special sub-menu, does anybody know how to fix it back?

File Manager - Super User Mode (in KDE 3.1)

Has anyone tried to use this? When I tried, it lasted for about 1 second before disappearing in to thin air. Has anyone else had the same experience or is it just my setup? Does anyone know of a fix? Thanks Eddie

Installing KDE 3.1 from new RPM's

Hi folks, I just downloaded all the rpm's from Suse 8.1 and tried to install following the directions in the ftp directory. During the install I got a few could not install messages so did a --force (as I did on another system using 8.0 with one of the beta 3.1's). It now seems that there is a corrupt rpm on the mirrors. when I try and do rpm -Fvh qt3-3.1.1-15.i586.rpm I get qt3 ######unpacking of archive failed on file /usr/lib/qt-3.1.1/lib/libqt-mt.so.3.qt3 1.1: cpio: read now, when I startx, it failes (funny that I guess) with (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/XF86Config" ioctl FBIOPAN_DISPLAY: Invalid argument Symbol shadowAdd from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/fbdev_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol shadowUpdateRotatePacked from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/fbdev_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol shadowSetup from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/fbdev_drv.o is unresolved! ksplash: relocation error: /opt/kde3/lib/libDCOP.so.4: undefined symbol: static_QUType_varptr .... startkde:Could not start kdeinit. Installation of kde3.1 on SuSe8.1

Hello everybody, can someone give me a short description how to install the new kde on 8.1? I'm currently working with 3.0.4 and tried to use YOU, but this doesn't work. I just downloaded all rpm's for kde3.1, but "rpm -ivh --test *" in the download-directory gives me a lot of dependency-errors. So what is the correct and easiest way? Thank you Daniel
