Please read the few lines under every mail from these list.

Daniel, Strangely, I did NOT see those lines under the e-mail that I received from this Gardner person via the list. But I *did* get them in the message that you sent, and in others recently sent to the list. I'm not sure why that would have happened. I thought that the list-server was supposed to append them automatically? Besides, she doesn't want to "unsubscribe". She wants to "unscribe". :-) /kevin

That's easy. Now you should get 2 versions of this mail, one with footer, second without. Because: I hit "reply to all". Then one mail goes to the list (and reaches you with footer) and another mail goes to you directly and has no footer of course. I think the first message from Brenda reached us directly, too. I cannot say for sure, because I deleted the mail...

Well, I don't want to wildcat about which language is her native one. But I think a Technical Course Developer of IBM should be able to read email footers and use a mailing-list.... (giving broad hints to Brenda *g*) Greets, Daniel

I don't believe grins are merited. She did the same on suse-linux-e. It *may* be someone trolling for addresses ?? -- Patrick Shanahan http://wahoo.no-ip.org Registered Linux User #207535 icq#173753138 @ http://counter.li.org

Implying that "she" already had everybody's address? The copy that I received had only her address in the "From:", and had only the list address in the "To:". But somehow, it got past the list-server's function that automatically attaches the "Unsubscribe" info. Can anybody tell how that was done? Here's the original header:

I'm not great at interpreting headers. Maybe somebody else with skills could offer a clue? Offline, of course. This is already too OT. Thanks, /kevin

Okay, my thought was obviously wrong, I see. Kevin: could you check if this mail was HTML only? Perhaps the list manager can only append the info to the plain text part? Daniel Am Dienstag, 28. Januar 2003 02:24 schrieb Kevin McLauchlan:

I saw no html portion, just the header that I posted, plus the word "Thanks" and her sig. Meanwhile, I'm still curious how it got forwarded by the list-manager without getting the "unsubscribe" instruction applied to its bottom. Was it accidental? Or some trick that can be done by someone who is sufficiently knowledgeable? /kevin

Note the content of the body: --=_alternative 0069931A86256CBB_= Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Thanks, Brenda Gardner, Technical Course Developer IBM/Tivoli Software 11301 Burnet Road Austin, TX 78758 Wk: 512-286-3114 TL: 966 Fx: 512-286-2033 e-mail: gardnebr@us.ibm.com --=_alternative 0069931A86256CBB_=-- This is essentially an empty body with a *text*-only attachment. The List-server obviously doesn't append the unsubscribe info for such cases. Regards, Chris

Yes, you got it! The message was in a mime part of the mail and the list-manager doesn't handle this (and that's good so, because a mime part could be a normal plaintext attachement like a diff, too). Daniel

This is all explained in the list "faq" (it's not much of a faq), mailto: suse-kde-faq@suse.com. Pretty much only plain text and pgp/gpg attachments are allowed, everything else is silently removed. Posts containing only a mime attachment are bounced. -- -ckm
