[opensuse-kde] elarun splash with KDM?

What actually controls what splash is available, the greeter/DM, or the DE? Is there a TW or Leap package I can install to get Elarun in KF5 instead of a choice between Breeze and nothing? Configure splash doesn't provide a way to see where the selections live so as to be able to run rpm -qf on them to see what rpm owns them. Installing kde4-wallpaper-default got Elarun for the desktop wallpaper, but not for splash. SDDM isn't an option due to KDM features SDDM lacks, unless SDDM can be used just for configuration access to optional splashes and not required to be the configured greeter. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." [opensuse-kde] libqt5-qtbase Session Management Patches are not working

The following patches to qt55 are supposed to provide the missing data needed to allow a plasma 5 session to properly manage Qt5-based apps. Without these patches to qt55, only gtk and qt4-based apps are restored on login: 0001-Fix-QWidget-setWindowRole.patch 0006-xcb-set-SM_CLIENT_ID-property.patch These patches have,indeed, been applied to the openSUSE package, but are not actually functioning for some reason. openSUSE is still exhibiting the unpatched behavior. (i.e. only non-qt-based apps are restored on login). Would someone please look into this? I'm using 13.2, and have confirmed with a Tumbleweed user that they are seeing the same behavior, and it is most likely broken in Leap 42.1 as well. [opensuse-kde] Leap packaging/polish issues

Unfortunately I'm very late to the Leap testing, but I found some issues in RC1 which are important to the overall impression, and are probably pretty easy to fix: * There's no video player included in the default installation at all. I would suggest to include vlc-qt. Secondly kaffeine, third dragon. * An upstream Plasma wallpaper is used by default, not the Leap wallpaper, which is available in the desktop settings. * On login KMix crashes cuz of PulseAudio breakage. But I thought KMix shouldn't be started on Plasma >=5.4 by default. Maybe not even be installed by default on a fresh installation? Or is this a conscious decision? * File indexing is enabled by default. I haven't seen to many complaints about Baloo recently, but it still seems a risky default. Given that file indexers have a tendency to blow up sooner or later. * The adwaita GTK style is used by default. Is this intentional? (breezygtk is not installed by default either, but I guess it's not very mature, and can potentially crash gtk apps). But overall I'm looking forward to finally migrating to Plasma5! And some other issues, which aren't so easy, but probably already handled: * Gwenview5 is not installable. Because it requires "application- appdata(gwenview.appdata.xml)". I guess this might be caused by the inconsistent state with a mix of 15.04 and 15.08 applications. I'd still prefer gwenview"4" anyway cuz of the kipiplugins. * Amarok crashes on startup. But I'm pretty sure that's also related to the pulseaudio breakage. * Sddm is not themed. But that's probably not that easy to do. [opensuse-kde][tw] krandr apparently should be dependency but isn't

lspci reports onboard XGI Z7/Z9 (XG20 core) video With prior kernel, desktop-4.1.6, kdebase4-workspace's plasma-desktop session aborted cleanly on finding krandr (for whatever reason?) not installed. After installing and booting current kernel, default 4.2.3, attempting to start X totally locked up video, requiring CAD to do anything more. Since discovering and correcting missing krandr, X works normally with current kernel (and SIS XF86 driver). Only two lines contain string krandr in /var/log/zypp/history (dating back 21 months), both dated today, 4 seconds apart, last 2 lines in file. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." [opensuse-kde] Update from KDE 4 to "KDE 5" or Plasma 5 or Frameworks 5 or whatever

Hi, I'm still trying to find concise instructions on how to migrate from KDE 4 to whatever combination of plasma, apps and framework adds up to "the version that cometh after KDE 4" (on openSUSE 13.2) Am I right in assuming that I should _disable_ the KDE:Extras repository, add KDE:Frameworks5 and KDE:Applications, replace kde4-session with plasma5- session and then run a zypper dup? Do i backup and clean out some folders in ~? I mean, it can't seriously mean "reinstall your PC and delete your home directory"... Hi, Today I noticed that gtk apps do not use breeze icons, but fall back to adwaita (I think that is the theme). It is set in systemsettings as the theme to use for gtk apps. The oxygen icons are working fine, though. Does anyone else have this problem? Or is it just me?
