[opensuse-kde][4.12.2-tumbleweed] Problems when mounting mp3 player (mtd devices)

Hi all, I'm having a small issue here with mp3 player mounting. I am not sure if this scenario is product specific, but I do know it wasn't a problem before. When I plug it in the port, the Device notifier pops out and lists, for one device, three different entries. 1. As storage volume with submenus: *DigiKam - works *GwenView - works *File Manager -works 2. As Portable player device with no name and submenus: *DigiKam - works *GwenView - works *File Manager -works *File manager -doesn't work[1] 3. As Portable player device with name WALKMAN and submenus: *DigiKam - works *GwenView - works *File Manager -works *File manager -doesn't work[1] If 2. or 3. entry submenus are used, USB option dissapears. Also, this option will be seldomly shown upon activation. I have initially had a problem with this option not showing up at all, but with writing this email now I tried it one more time and USB option showed up, but disappeared again following above scenario. [1] The double submenu entry for File Manager opens Dolphin, but one in each submenu will open the device READ ONLY, while other that doesn't work will spit out an error. This same error is encountered if any of the two entries are being opened directly from Dolphin: The file or folder udi=/org/kde/solid/udev/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1a.0/usb1/1-1/1-1.2 does not exist. So, there are five issues here: 1. USB option is random 2. when it does work, it will dissapear after any of the mtd options is chosen. 3. mtd is read-only 4. there are somehow double mtd mountpoints with double File Manager entries. 5. mtd mountpoints that are shown Dolphin do not work. [opensuse-kde] kmix does not show bluetooth device

Hello, I run KDE 4.10 on openSUSE 12.3. I do not run pulseaudio, just plain good old ALSA with a Philips bluetooth headphone. The bt headphone just runs fine. But, I cannot change the volume with kmix. Actually, kmix does not show the headphone at all. As I said, it runs well, it plays music with kaffeine and vlc. But kmix does not show the device. The strange thing is, when I try amixer directly with amixer -D btheadset I get this message: ALSA lib audio/ctl_bluetooth.c:167:(bluetooth_send_ctl) Unable to receive new volume value from server ALSA lib audio/ctl_bluetooth.c:161:(bluetooth_send_ctl) Unable to request new volume value to server: Broken pipe amixer: Mixer btheadset load error: Broken pipe In the end, I simply cannot change the volume, not with amixer, not with kmixer. Does anyone have a clue? Is my ALSA configuration not 100% fine? But, the headset works, it plays music. Do I need to change asound.conf? Below you can see my asound.conf. Thanks for any hint! [opensuse-kde] web browser config for evolution use in 4.10.5

I put 12.3/KDE on a neighbor/friend's puter last spring. He managed to pick Evolution to replace SeaMonkey, which we had originally set him up to use for email, after SeaMonkey's profile disintegrated months later. His KDE systemsettings has Firefox as default browser. When he clicks an Evolution email web URL, it opens SeaMonkey mail instead of opening the URL in Firefox. Anyone know what's required to get Firefox to open when he clicks a link in Evolution? Does he need to find, install and use Gnome's systemsettings to make such a configuration work? Is there some gconf config file line item that would do it instead of adding more Gnome clutter to KDE's menus? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." There is a problem with the refocus tool in digikam from the repos, bug ID 326018. This bug is not caused by digikam itself, but by the way it is built. I compiled it locally and the refocus tool works fine. It seems that compilation has to be done against a newer version of the eigen3 library. Could you please check if this is the case? [opensuse-kde] Call for testing - new search functionality in upcoming KDE releases

Hello people, some may have heard about movement in the KDE camp with regards to the search functionality. In particular there has been quite a large work on a change in the email and desktop search, especially with regards to speed and memory usage by switching to a new, faster backend than the one used before. This work (the next iteration of Nepomuk, codenamed "Baloo") touches almost everything with regards to search: - File indexing - Contact indexing and completion - Email searching (complete and quick filtering) - Tagging in Gwenview and Dolphin - Searching in Dolphin The changes are quite large , and of course there is potential for regressions (although part of the KDE team has been testing this for the past weeks before it was finally merged in recently). Therefore, for the *daring users only* we would like to start test and report issues upstream so that regressiosn are found and fixed early (the developers are quite responsive). Let me state this again: this is *not* to be used on production systems because it means tracking KDE git master, which can be broken and unstable at times (it's not even in feature freeze). However if you have a testing system to spare, your help would be most welcome. To do so, in a non critical system ;) install the KDE packages from KDE:Unstable:SC (they overwrite the regular KDE packages, hence the need for caution) and ensure you also install "baloo", "kfilemetadata" and "libbaloowidgets4" (they should be pulled in automatically). Before doing so, don't forget to disable Nepomuk prior to installing (the old and the new implementation don't play well together). Once installed, logout and login to start the new system: of course the initial indexing will take a while depending on files, mails, etc. Don't forget to customize options if you need so under "Desktop Search" in System Settings. You can also install "Milou", a plasmoid that can be used for searching (searching in KRunner also should work transparently). Try to use the system normally (also have a look at search, tagging, etc.) and if you spot bugs, report them *upstream* in bugs.kde.org so they can be tracked and hopefully fixed before the release. [opensuse-kde] KDE 4.12 and Tumbleweed testing requested

Hi all, I've imported all of KDE 4.12 into openSUSE:Tumbleweed:Testing, and it seems to mostly build properly, with the exception of some branding packages, which I'm guessing is not really needed: https://build.opensuse.org/project/monitor/openSUSE:Tumbleweed:Testing Anyway, if some of you could test it out and let me know if it works or not, that would be greatly appreciated. And thanks go out to Jiri Slaby for doing the hard work in getting this into Tumbleweed. [opensuse-kde] KDE:Extra broken

Hi all! Well, it happened again: KDE was updated to 4.12.2 (amd publishing for KR412 disabled), but for KDE:Extra publishing was not disabled. So now all the stuff in KDE:Extra (for KDE:Release:412 at least) is broken, since it is already built against 4.12.2. Users are already complaining, see here: http://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/495087-kde-4-12-bug-report In that forum thread they only talk about some plasmoids, but I cannot even start f.e. Krita and KDevelop any more on my system. So the next time KDE is updated, please make sure that KDE:Extra has publishing _disabled_! Thank you. [opensuse-kde] Problem opening Kontact

In opensuse 13.1, KDE 4.11.2, when I attempt tp open kontact it segfaults. Background: Due to a compromised file(s) in the ~/.kde4 folder kontact had to be removed and re-installed. I first used Yast2 for the re-install. Upon attempting to open kontact it displayed a segfault message. I then deleted kontact and re-installed through the online search (http://software.opensuse.org/search) system but had the same results. During both install sessions I also performed a system restart to avoid any other problems. I also logged out and back in of KDE several times. Segfault bug has been reported to bugzilla as bug 861725. Any suggestions or ideas why this is happening? Thanks, Tom -- Never be ashamed to ask for information. Dear KDE Fellows, here a proposal I would like we handle for osc14 (Could be discuss next Saturday, during the irc meeting, but I can't promise I'll be free due to the board face to face meeting and the last devs on our mailing liste :-) I met at Fosdem Vishesh Handa, and already ask him to propose a talk about the new technologies coming in KDE like Baloo, Milou and others and how they will benefit to all of us. As he's living now in Spain, its certainly doable. But any people that could convince and help him to make it real will be appreciate. I would really enjoy, if the kde team could propose a workshop, with the following subject (From what I can summarize from last meeting) Clean-up and adjust kde packages in openSUSE. The workshop would be really cool, if we can show to local student and community members how the team works. How they can join the team, adopt a package etc etc ... Then at the end of the conference, KDE team should obtain a better visibility, grab new contributors, and get the new packaging stuff done.
