[opensuse-kde] can system sounds work by default (or be customized) without pulseaudio installed?

Normally I don't connect speakers to a PC, so my experience with sound is limited. Now I have one which I'll be using for video file editing, so sound needs to work reliably, but does not in 12.1, 12.3 & 13.1m3. According to YaST2 in 12.3 & 13.1, the Intel HDA controller is configured, but without any mention of the string "realtek" as noted in dmesg and lsmod. Sound works when play test sound is selected, but there are no event sounds of any kind. Most notably absent are the startup and end session sounds. KMix shows 91% as default setting. The right click menu on the KMix icon on the panel shows 5 selections, among them, "Audio Setup", which when clicked does nothing, in both 4.10.5 & 4.10.97. Clicking on Multimedia in http://fm.no-ip.com/SS/KDE/ss4105-os123-120.png crashes systemsettings, again in both 4.10.5 & 4.10.97, so I can't even tell without booting something else where KDE4 sounds are supposed to be configured (apparently here, as in F18/19 this opens a Phonon Sound and Video Configuration window that includes "Notifications"). What's missing here? Does pulseaudio even have anything to do with this? Is there some kde package that KDE sounds and/or KMix depend on that isn't getting pulled in as a hard dependency (phonon/libphonon4?)? -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." [opensuse-kde] 4.11 session does not like xosview

Hi, I start xosview and have it shown on all Desktops. This worked fine from KDE 4.0 up to 4.10. Now with 4.11, the session manager does not like xosview. - When I start my new session, xosview ist started all right - but it is only on one desktop and not on all - the window of xosview is in any location (most often near the left margin) but not where it was when finishing the last session - the window of xosview is not as wide as it was in the last session All other applications come up where they were before - even gkrellm, what is not a KDE application either. OK, the position and size of the fortune plasmoid is not saved too, but that was always the case. At least it shows up about in the place where it is expected ;-) Can I tune something to get the correct re-appearing of xosview? [opensuse-kde] wallpaper settings not remembered in KDE 4.11 on oS 12.3

Anyone else getting this? Fresh install of openSUSE 12.3 (x86_64) and I've updated to the KDE 4.11 Release repo. Going into the Default Desktop Settings, if I choose Slideshow wallpaper and add a custom folder (and/or ticking the System Wallpapers / My Downloaded Wallpapers boxes), then Apply/OK, the settings aren't stored next time. I've had a look at the plasma-desktop-appletsrc config file and compared the relevant section to my config from a previous 12.3 install with KDE 4.10 on another machine. I don't see any issues there, with the same paths specified, though there might be something more obscure in that extensive file to look at, or in another config file entirely. When I okay that dialog I do get a change of wallpaper. It cycles through some of the system defaults, but never uses any of my own. I've noticed other wallpaper types like Picture of the Day are flaky and it won't download from most of the sources. It doesn't look like there's even any network activity when I try. Hi, since the introduction of the KR411 repository there are some apps missing, which were in KR410 before: e.g. Kile, Kmymoney, Skanlite, ... Is this intentional, and one should install such apps from the official OpenSuse 12.3 repo, or have they just been forgotten? Hi everyone, in our mixed (Windows/Linux/Solaris) office environment, I often have to use KRDC to connect to a Windows terminal server. After upgrading to 4.11, the screen stays blue, no login is possible. And yes, I restarted KDE after upgrading to 4.11 :-) After "zypper in --oldpackage krdc-4.10.5-1.92.3" everything is fine, so the bug (if it is one) is in KRDC, not somewhere inside KDE. Hey I'm testing 13.1, and I noticed a couple of important and (presumably) easy to fix issues. 1) kde-gtk-config is not installed by default, not even when pulling 'recommended' packages. I guess it needs to be added to the pattern? 2) Shouldn't we also include 'kde-mplayer-thumbnailer' in the default install, and enable video thumbnails in Dolphin by default? Heya, I found a bug but dunno what the ideal fix would be. /usr/bin/startkde starts krandrtray (by issueing ". krandrtray") but that's no longer installed by default in Plasma 4.11 so the user can't log in. Should this starting-of- krandtray be made conditional on it being there? Seems to make sense, yes? Or should it be a dependency? It should not, with Kscreen, correct? /J

The new kde theme was accepted today in factory, so on its way to be soon available for those of us who are testing factory. I've a build for myself and test it under 12.3 and it work great, fixing all default we could have under the one published with 12.3. We are interested in feedback and bug reporting, especially with small screen 1280x800 or less or any strange resolution. You can report bugs on bugzilla.novell.com and put me as assignee. [opensuse-kde] KDE SC 4.11 problem in AMD GPU?

Hi list, I have problem when updating KDE to 4.11 from 4.10 in my Lenovo X120e with AMD Radeon HD 6310, I cannot login in kdm. I check the /var/log/kdm.log and there is a line mention that ktimezoned initialize( ) D-Bus call failed Is there any problem in D-Bus? I still can login to terminal though. I downgrade it to KDE 4.10 and I can login again using kdm. Is it a known issue? Anybody with the same problem? My other PC using nvidia has no problem at all. [opensuse-kde] Touchpad not working

I know some of this has been covered before but I have tried their suggestions and still cannot make it work. My touch pad does not work in my main account but it will work in other accounts I have set up. I have the synaptics driver installed and it seems to work in the other accounts but not in my main one. I am currently using 12.3 with KDE 4.10.5. None of the settings in the KDE or synaptics driver seem to work in this account. This KDE account is a carry over from a previous KDE version, but I really don't want to wipe out my .kde setup files and start from scratch again. I've tried out the images provided by open-slx (they provide isos). They won't boot beyond a kernel panic... basically they are waaaaay too old for my hardware. Kernel 3.8 and newer is where I need to be on this device. open-slx images are based on openSUSE 12.1 from what I can tell. I could use Studio to "roll my own" but... I'm looking at that as a last resort as I ask myself is it worth it for this one machine that has one other glaring issue that needs to be sorted first... I can't pair the Bluetooth keyboard to save my life... (a separate issue which I've posted about on the openSUSE foums and got nowhere with). [opensuse-kde] broken window behavior

When in 13.1m3/4.10.97 or 12.3/4.10.5 I close a session with Konsole left open as only app at 0,0 on new session start, Konsole appears at bottom of screen instead of top. Then when I drag it where it should have been in the first place, it acts as if I had double clicked the titlebar, maximizing the window instead of leaving it as it was. Hi listmates, i would like to announce preliminary KDE frameworks repository which can be found at home:sumski:frameworks project. Idea and plan is to soon create KDE:frameworks and KDE:Qt5 repos. Packages built are Qt 5.2 (base, declarative, etc), "kdesupport" - attica, strigi, dbusmenu-qt, phonon, polkit-qt-1, kdelibs from frameworks branch, plasma-frameworks and kde-workspace from frameworks-scratch branch. Qt is installed into /usr as we still don't have other packages that depend on Qt5, and rest of the stack into /opt/kf5. You can install kf5-session package if you want to test the new plasma-shell. Session is basic for now, with also openbox started, as KWin does not work. Hello List mates, Why is it that KDE4 has a file manager that has the slowest refresh when initializing it for the first time? This was never a problem with Konqueror, KDE3 and even GNOME's Nautilus. Microsoft and OSX never had an issue. Why only Dolphin and how can this be addressed in 4.11 and openSUSE 13.1? -- Cheers!
