Music playing problems

Hello SuSE people, Very recently upgraded 9.2 to 10.0. Playing music in xmms, amarok, etc. worked well before the upgrade. That included any CD popped into the player and any and all mp3s on the hard drive. Now when I put in a music CD I get some kde daemon that asks me if I want to open it in kscd. I can reply "yes" and it does not play. I can open either amarok or xmms and try to load either with a playlist which does not work. No playlist is loaded. Any clues/hints as to what is going on here?? Bob S.

NEw kde 3.5 problems

Hi, I'm using opensuse10, i386, with kde3.5 , binary release downloaded from a Suse Mirror ftp.rediris.es/pub/linux/distributions/suse/pub/suse/i386/supplementary/KDE/update_for_10.0 After a new upadates one or two weeks ago I started to observed strange behavior in kate and Kile. I'm permanently getting the message "file has changed on disk" without that being true! choosing the view difference option it gives a difference of one blank line at the bottom of the file. In kile choosing the view difference option is a very bad idea because the system starts building some databases and stays freeze for about 5 minutes. After that kile aborts. Nvidia no 3D

Hi All, I wonder if someone has the same problem or can help me. I am using SuSE 10.0 and the nvidia driver from YaST, but I do not have 3D I cannot even play TuxRacer :(. CPU: Pentium 4 2,4GHz RAM: 768 graphic card: GeForce2 GTS/Pro I have also tried running the nvidia run script. It complains that the source is not install. (This is not true). Looking into the log everything works upto the point of the module needs to be loaded.! The fun thing is that, glxinfo is reporting a SGI. And help would be apppricated. Regards Ian

Hello to the list Some friends told me they had the same error as me as a consequence of updating KDE to 3.5. It seems that this is a packaging error. Reloading kdegraphics3-tex from another source solved the problem. I can't say more to the respect. Happy new year Robert

Problem with KStars and coordinate systems; non-astronomers too help please

Does anyone else see the following bug on KStars 1.20 on KDE 3.5? With Settings > Configure KStars > Guides > Coordinate Grid switched on, Try changing the coordinate system by View > Equatorial Coordinates and View > Horizontal Coordinates. It does not work. Do you see this too? For those not into astronomy, you probably don't have KStars installed, but if you do, please test whether it works or not. The test is: if the grid has its pole at the star labeled Polaris in both coordinate system then the bug exist. Expected behaviour: Only when you select Equatorial Coordinates must the pole of the grid be near Polaris. When you select Horizontal Coordinates the pole of the grid must be at the zenith (a different point from Polaris except at the North Pole). I see another bug, that the settings are not immediately implemented even when Apply or OK is hit. Only when a cursor movement or other change causes a redraw of the chart are they implemented. For example, try Settings > Configure KStars > Solar System > Select None and Apply, and check whether you still see the sun and other planets or not. [suse-kde] Transparency in kde 3.5

Hi, I wasn't getting transparent background in kopete chat window while i was using kde 3.4.2. When i have upgraded to kde 3.5 , even my panel doesn't show transparency. Is there any setting to enable transparency or is it intentionally disabled. ---- Chaitanya Chalasani

Missing "Red Eye Reduction" and "Aspect Ratio Crop" in SuSE rpm of digikam(imageplugins)-0.8.0

Hi, my last version of digikam was 0.7.2. Everything was fine. A few days ago I downloaded digikam-0.8.0-3.i586.rpm and digikamimageplugins-0.8.0-3.i586.rpm from ftp.suse.com (I use SuSE Linux 9.3) and installed the packages. Everything seems to be fine. But I am missing "Red Eye Reduction" and "Aspect Ratio Crop" in the imageviewer/imageeditor. Of course I activated all possible kipi- and imageplugins, I find in the preferences. I use this packages from my DVDs or from ftp.suse.com: digikam-0.8.0-3 digikamimageplugins-0.8.0-3 kipi-plugins-0.1.0rc1-3 libkipi-0.1.2-3 libkexif-0.2.2-3 When I downgrade to digikam-0.7.2 and digikamimageplugins-0.7.2 the missing tools are available. At the list digikam-users(a)kde.org I was told that the SuSE rpm packages my not contain not all plugins. Does anybody know, if there are missing some plugins in the SuSE rpm packages? Jan Scheller

Mouse

I lost my mouse. Better said it froze. Is there a key combination to regain hold of a frozen mouse ? Optionally is there a 'Unix command' to get it going again ? Newbie. Don't knock. (I had to go thru a painful 'reinstall' to get hold of it again and to manage to issue this message). Linux pro 9.3 - Compaq Deskpro PC. TKS for yr help. JPA -- Libérez vos bits ! Adding session types to kdm?

I want to add a "SessionType" to kdm but can no longer do so in the login manager via the ControlCenter because the "sessions" section is no longer there. Can't find any reference to "SessionType" in the kdmrc file in the /etc sub-dir, not in xsessions/Xsession files either. Where the hell is it now??? I took out Gnome and wanted to add it in again. But, I took the Gnome ref out before I upgrade KDE and now I am at a lose about just how to add a session type to kdm. Any session type. I might have overlooked something and searching the web only gives old advice or refers to a deb or RH config. Any help would be appreciated.
