Why, Oh Why, Don't KDE Apps Retain Toolbar Customizations upon Update?

Hi, This continues to peeve me royally. Why in the world do KDE applications with toolbar customizations revert to their default toolbars when they receive updates? It hardly seems justified. Does anybody know a way of preserving one's customizations when performing updates? Randall Schulz

Howto - stop KCalc turning long num into e+ format

I entered the value 2415020.3135 into KCalc and hit enter and it became 2.41502e+06. How do I prevent this? It is very irritating not to see all the digits I entered. I need to know what I am working with, no? Please tell me how I can stop this irritating behaviour of KCalc's. I tried changing the maximum number of digits and decimal digits in KCalc settings to no avail. Using KCalc 2.0 on KDE 3.5 on SUSE 10.0. SUSE 10 - k3bsetup not found

I checked MARC for suse-linux-e and suse-kde and found similar complaints for SUSE 9.1 but wanted to verify here before I mess with root: Using SUSE 10, KDE 3.5, k3b 0.128, when I startup k3b I get the message: cdrdao will be run without root privileges It is highly recommended to configure cdrdao to run with root privileges to increase the overall stability of the burning process. Solution: Use K3bSetup to solve this problem. I do not find k3bsetup at: 1. the Settings menu of k3b 2. the KDE > System > More programs menu 3. the terminal 4. /opt/kde3/bin/ 5. the SUSE FTP repositories (where I looked) I see several solutions for SUSE 9.x in the old archives but am hesitant to use them on SUSE 10, especially since I have to do this as root. Control Bar wider than screen

Hello, after installing a new programm happened a error: the control bar is (horizontal) wider than screen size. where can i find settings to change this? also the settings where it solved for future would be nice. Greetz Franz

can't get rid of suse login screen

Hello all: This regards to suse-10.0 i386: I would like to set my kde login screen to kde default since I don't like suse-default. I have changed the DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME="SUSE" line to DISPLAYMANAGER_KDM_THEME="" in /etc/sysconfig/displaymanager using YaST. It had no effect. I also run SuSEconfig --module kdm3 that had no effect either. Why is this and what should I do? Kmail: the address select window isn't resizable anymore...

Hello list, abput two weeks ago, I came in with the problem that I can't see the OK button in the adress select window of Kmail (the window which appears if one clicks on the three dots at the right side of to, cc, bcc). The window is so large in the vertical direction that the ok button is located below the bottom line of the monitor. To have access to this button, I must use the ALT key the left mouse key for moving the window upward, until the OK button appears. However, this solution is not very helpful, it's only a first workaround. To get rid of the problem, Randall R Schulz suggested: "It's a resizbale window. Once the edge is visible, it can be dragged to resize the window." Okay, if I follow this suggestion, I see the following behaviour: The lower window boundary moves over the OK button, so that the OK button is outside the window. So I assume that my address select window isn't resizable any more. I'm quite sure that I've forced this behaviour by my own, but I really don't know, when and how :-( Is there anyone who knows, how I can make this window resizable again? The setting of this windows must be stored annywhere? Who knows something about the location of these settings? Hoping for help... Alexander P.S.: I'm running SuSE professional 9.2, and the KDE of this distribution.

Kmail and Kontact instability

I am running Suse 10.0 (x86, 32 bit version). I recently upgraded to KDE 3.5, and Kmail and kontact crash repeatedly. I began this message with Kmail 1.9, but it crashed before I could finish it. i am using Thunderbird to post this message. I like Thunderbird, but I would prefer to use Kontact as I like the integrated interface with the contacts, calendar, and to do list. I have already deleted the old .kde directory in my home directory, but that didn't help. I am not sure it makes a difference, but I am using Kmail as an IMAP client, not a Pop client. Please note that I was not using KMail under kde 3.4, as previous versions of KMail did not let you filter IMAP mail into IMAP folders, only into local folders. The version of KMail with kde 3.5, version 1.9, does allow you to filter IMAP mail into IMAP folders. For this reason I am interested in getting Kontact working. I have googled for kontact problems kde 3.5, but found nothing. Is anyone using Kontact under kde 3.5 with KMail as an IMAP client. Mike -- Michael A. Upgrade to KDE 3.5 - what are my dependency workaround options ?

All, I've got SuSE 10 (from the commercial DVD) with KDE 3.4.2b. I wanted to try KDE 3.5. I've seen that people have tried it and experienced a few little problems - the kinds that I can live with. But nobody (unless I missed some mail) reported being thrown into dependency hell while installing the upgraded KDE. So, last night I downloaded everything from: http://mirror.cc.columbia.edu/pub/software/kde/stable/3.5/SuSE/ix86/10.0/ and tried to install/upgrade with YaST and then (when it got a little complicated for YaST) with rpm from the command line. After sorting out some relatively contained dependencies regarding ARTS and a couple of other packages, I got into the more open-ended stuff: error: Failed dependencies: python-qt = 3.5.0-7 is needed by kdebindings3-python-3.5.0-7 libpoppler-qt.so.0 is needed by kdegraphics3-3.5.0-6 valgrind >= 3.0.0 is needed by kdesdk3-profile-3.5.0-7 libdb-4.1.so is needed by kdevelop3-3.3.0-5 libqscintilla.so.6 is needed by python-qt-3.5.0-8 libakode.so.1 is needed by (installed) kio_burn-0.7-0.pm.0 I found updated packages for qscintilla, and got: error: Failed dependencies: libqscintilla.so.5 is needed by (installed) kdebindings3-python-3.4.2-8 I'm not sure what I'm looking at, here. Is the reference to "installed" merely telling me that I've already got a version that's installed and working (with KDE 3.4), or is this a pointed warning that if I upgrade libakode and libqscintilla, then KDE 3.4 is going to stop working.... probably before I've gotten as far as getting 3.5 to work... ?? Because of my undertainty, I'm rather afraid of running rpm -U with -force or -nodeps. Since I am very much a gui kind of person (I do use the command-line, but as an adjunct to doing all my everyday stuff via gui) I don't want to disembowel KDE 3.4.2b before I've got 3.5 installed and mostly working. What's the poop? Is there a way, other than trying it and having things break, to know if an app will accept a link to a newer version of a package as long as the link is named as the older version? Is this just a situation where I can create a couple of symlinks and everything will be happy again? Or .... what? I mean, I'd just try it, but this isn't one of those stand-alone things that you can try independently. This is all of KDE, and for all I know, most of the rest of my system. I've had experience of loading newer version packages and faking links to the older version in the middle of a bunch of interdependent packages and I ended up re-installing SuSE (I think it was 7.3) from CD because that was far easier than trying to fix all that I had broken. Can't see the ok-button in the adress window of kmail

Hello list, I've a strange problem. Dont ask me why and how, but I have achieved to change the size of the popup window for selecting Email adresses in kmail (the three dots ... at the right hand site of the "to" and "copy" field, in a manner that I dont see the ok and the cancel button any more. I can change the window's size with the mouse as I want, but I never see the "ok" and "cancel" button again. They remain below the lower border of the window? Has anypne an idea, how I can get rid of the problem? I am running SuSE Professional 9.2 with it's KDE. Alexander

hello every one ; i have this problem with KDE that its crash berofre i reboot or even halt my notebook . i have OpenSuSE 10.0 and i have update kde using yast . my notebook is : Acer TravelMate 4151NLCI the VGA Is intel not nvidia ... and it says that : Unkown Application give signal 11 .. any way i have attached the .xsession_error file if any one can tell me what is the problem .
