Keyboard Layout

Hi, my keyboard layout is behaving a little strange. I use English(US) as my default layout but each time i boot the system it loads a different layout. I think it is German or something like that because it has the -umlauds if i say it correctly-. Anyway, if i run yast and select keyboard layout, i see that English(US) is checked and if i press Accept then my layout is ok. What can cause this because it wasn't always like this. Is there a config file? Thanks!

Mozilla/Evolution font size problem

Hello, I run KDE. Everything looks great but Mozilla and Evolution. The font sizes do not line up with the rest of my applications. I ran gnome-font-properties and they start to look fine. I have to run this after everytime I restart. How can I make whatever gnome-font-properties does permanent? Thanks, Terry

kdesktop_lock - Can't Unlock Screen

Hello. I've been having problems with the kdesktop_lock lately. When I try to unlock the screen, it doesn't accept my user password and the screen remains locked - it has been a recent problem, it wasn't always like that. What can be wrong? Is there any config file I can change?

Setting a linux client as backup domain controller just to mount the shares is unnesseccary and can be dangerous to the domain controller system if it's not correctly planned. You don't need such stuff to just be client and connect to windows shares. If you set up your network browser settings correctly in KDE control center, then you even don't have to mount a share directly, but you can use the smb:/ kio plugin which is much more flexible (nearly as flexible as in windows with network neighborhood). But if you want to use a permanent mount, then just do this: Edit your /etc/samba/smb.conf Correct the values: workgroup = <WORKGROUP> # In domains this is simply the domain name. encrypt passwords = yes # should be default, but to be sure local master = no # don't mess up with domain controllers name resolve order = wins,host,bcast # change to try wins first, if your \ network has one wins server = <ip-address1> <ip-address2> # ask this wins servers wins support = no # don't act as wins server by yourself!!! Edit your /etc/samba/smbfstab Enter something like this (in one line): //windows-server/sharename /local/mountpoint cifs username=<loginname>;password=<password> Now it will be mounted at boot. If you want to use kio_smb instead of mounting, then it's not bad to configure smb.conf as shown above, too. Then configure the settings in control center and then use smb:/ as your liking. List, I solved this problem on a Windows domain based network. I have SLSS 8. My eventual solution was to mount the Windows network drives at boot time. I did the following: - Ensure your system partition is of type: reiserfs - Setup my machine with Samba. - Configured samba as follows: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/archive/2/2004/03/4/155887 to get it onto my domain as a Backup Domain Controller. This setup must work before moving on. - Create folder /mnt/winshare and ensure all Linux accounts that need access can access this share folder - Edit the /etc/fstab file and add the boot time mount point entry to the end of it as follows: //winsrvname/winsharename /mnt/winshare smbfs username=winusername,password=winpword,rw,umask=000 0 0 If all is setup correctly this should do the job. I am in a hurry so I may have left something out - I had to search around a bit as my server is off right now. Hi all, Is anyone know what is the easiest wa to use linux suse as a client for windows file server and print server? Because I find linux is very suitable for a workstation until I can't print or share file or download a share file through windows file server. It's like I can't be free from windows bind. International settings for GNOME App running in Suse 9.1

Using control center, I changed date format and order international settings for KDE and KDE applications follow this configuration. But GNOME app don't. I looked for international settings in the GNOME-CONTROL-CENTER, but I didn't find nothing about this. I also installed GNOME XDM to try to find something to help me , but don't make any progress. Anyone knows how to change this settings ?

Suse 9.0 + KDE 3.2.3: First and second hierarchy of the KDE menu are seperated

HI! I have updated Suse 9.0 to KDE 3.2.3 with yast. Now the first and second hierarchy of the KDE menu are visibly seperated and there are no arrows in the first hierarchy items where there exist sub items. From the second hierarchy on, it's OK. This is a little hard to explain, so please look at this screenshot: http://www.boerkel.de/kdemenu.jpg Since this looks OK on the sample screenshots at kde.org, there must be something wrong with my system. How can I open audio CD in xmms?

Hi, This is a rather trivial question but I am not able to find a way to this I use the open dialog but I cannot file where those files are loaded on the system. With 8.2 I used media/cdrecorder to get to them but with 9.1 it seems to be at in a different spot that I cannot find? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
