noatun crasches after KDE3 update on 7.2, fixed only on 8.0?

Hi friends, there's a fix for noatun problems available from the sdb at KDE3.0: The Media Player noatun Does Not Play MP3 Files http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/thallma_noatun_kde3.html I can't play mp3 files either, but I'm running KDE3 on 7.2, and when I try to install the rpm pointed to in the sdb article above I get: error: failed dependencies: libasound.so.2 is needed by kdemultimedia3-3.0-9 The package is apparently targeted at SuSE 8.0. (?) What can I do to get noatun running on my 7.2? "ofsrep.fmbmigw(a)WellsFargo.COM" is the culprit address. The above address consistantly crashes KMAIL 3.0.0 when applying the filter below. I also crashed KMAIL trying to Drag/Drop to the same folder designated below: Any suggestions would be appreciated. KDE3 update

Hi, Im not sure how to go about updating to KDE3 on SuSE 7.3. I downloaded all the new RPMs from SuSE.com and have installed them. I noyiced I know have a new KDE3 directory next to KDE2 and KDE in my /opt directory. There are a number of startkde type files in all of these. Should I copy the KDE3 start folders to KDE2 or what. KDE Konsole Text size problem

I sent the following to the SLE list, and then discovered the new KDE list, so apologies for the crossposting. I'm getting started with SuSE and have struck a small problem. I am running V.7.3 (Pro distribution) on a dual boot system with NT4. When logged in as root the Konsole window opens, confined to a narrow window on the left of the screen, and the prompt is very difficult to read with letters squashed together. If I issue a command the response is also unreadable. Making the window full size does nothing for the text and adjusting the settings does not appear to work! If I login with my normal user login, (John) the Konsole window is quite OK and text is very readable, and yet the settings appear to be the same for root as for user. I have read the KDE Konsole instructions but I must be missing something as I can't adjust the settings to resolve this. I daresay a re-install would resolve it, and I am happy to do so. I think it's a breeze after windoze installs, although I would rather try and understand what the problem is. Any pointers appreciated. John

Klauncher breaks

Suse 7.1 kernel 2.4.17 kde 2.2.2 XF86 4.2 Small problem. I keep breaking Klauncher forcing me to log out then back in to KDE. For example Kwintv (rpm from suse) asks to be suid root. But causes this. gringo@gringo:~ $kwintv The KDE libraries are not designed to run with suid privileges. gringo@gringo:~ $kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed kdeinit: sending SIGHUP to children. KLauncher: Exiting on signal 1 kdeinit: sending SIGTERM to children. kdeinit: Exit. It does not like to be run as User. However it will work with sux -but also breaks klauncher. As user I get kv4lsetup: You should install me suid root, I need root priviliges for the VIDIOCSFBUF ioctl. Warning: kwintv: kv4lsetup had some trouble, trying to continue anyway. Is there a way of restoring klauncher ? If I stop and start klauncer it has no affect. The usual message is "klauncher could not be reached via DCOP" I have a similar problem with kfontinsall Brian Marr

KDE3 - Less than stellar installation

Hello, everyone. First of all, sorry for the crosspost, but the KDE list is too new, and I don't know how many people we have frequenting it yet. I downloaded the KDE3 RPMs from the SuSE ftp server yesterday, and installed all of the base RPMs through YaST. After a great deal of cursing and swearing, I finally got it to run after running it as root, and then running it as a regular user. BUT, kdm is no longer available, and xdm is running in its place. Also, all of the nice application links that SuSE put into KDE2 are gone. Many apps also fail to run. YaST2 bombs out and XMMS does not even start. I have also updated the RPMs for these. It seems to me that the process for updating from KDE2 to KDE3 is far from painless, and I have been unable to find any documentation about it on either the SuSE web or ftp sites. The RPMs seem to be lacking some of the necessary configuration changes to provide for a smooth update. Can we expect updated RPMs in the near future to rectify these issues ? Maybe a script could be created to edit those files missed by the RPMs. Bye for now, Stuart.
