Hello
I have prepared a proposal for openSUSE News/Planet Android app after
discussion with the project's mentor, Manu Gupta. I have published the
same here (https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwvL1wCMLPZedXlSalZ3QlpQRTA/edit?usp=sharing).
I would be very much obliged if I could receive some feedback
regarding the same.
Thanks

National Institute of Technology (NITK), Karnataka (INDIA). I am in
the 2nd year of the course.
I am interested in the "openSUSE News/Planet on Android" project
proposal listed on the Ideas page in GSOC. I would like to know more
about the project. Please guide about what has to be done to be a part
of Google Summer of Code 2013 and contribute to openSUSE.
I have experience building applications on Android. I also interned at
a company and built an Android application. I would like to learn more
in this area. This project provides a great opportunity to implement
what I have learned and learn new things.

Hi,
I'm a graduate student on Computer Engineering/Network Security[0]
degree at Gebze Institute of Technology(GIT)[1] at Turkey.
I am very interested in "CloudStack/Eucalyptus setup " project at OpenSUSE.
Why is the OpenSUSE' s this project and would like to explain that.
First of all, I used to be a Pardus[3] developer until recently.
After 2 years contribution, i also had the opportunity to work at
TUBITAK/UEKAE [4][5]
But after TUBITAK finished project's life, all Pardus developer resigned.
Now pardus is available as debian fork and don't develop as public.
Now, i'm working part-time on social-game company as Linux System
Administrator. (3 days work, 2 days school)
Maintain some servers on AWS with Chef and other tools.
I'm a 6-7 years Debian user. But use openSUSE the last three months.
I decided to be contributer/packager to openSUSE. I think GSOC is good
start to be contributer to openSUSE in the future.
I'm thinking thas is best project for me on GSOC ideas and will want to
be accepted this project.
Before applying with my proposal, i wanted to write to you and getting
some advices in this proggress.
I started to learn how is packaging at opensuse. What should i read?
what should i work on?
This[6] is my github account and these are my packages[7] at old pardus
repository
Thanks,
Best regards.

All,
It took us a while to get the meeting minutes pulled together for the
face to face board meeting that took place in early April in Nuremberg.
Right after the board meeting was Hackweek and then some of us had to
travel.
We put the final touches on the minutes during the board call this past
Monday (minutes for the call are in the works) and the Face to Face
Board Meeting Minutes have now been published on the wiki.
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Board_meeting#Meeting_2013-04-06_.26_07
As always if you have questions or concerns please feel free to respond
to this message on the -project list or send a message to the board list.
Regards,

Hello Geekos!
In less than a week the openSUSE Travel Support Team will open for
sponsorship request to attend openSUSE Conference 2013
https://conference.opensuse.org/
The goal is to help *everybody in and around openSUSE* to be able to
come to the openSUSE Conference! You don't have to be one of the top
10 packagers to apply - if you're translating, building a local
community or helping out at the forums, we might still be able to
offer you support, so apply!
The application period will be one week, starting on May 2nd and
closing on May 10th. For the very first time, all requests will be
managed through our brand new application that will be available at
https://connect.opensuse.org/travel-support/
You will need an openSUSE Connect account in order to log in the
application and apply for sponsorship. See
https://connect.opensuse.org
A few reminders:
* Please, read http://opensuse.org/openSUSE:Travel_Support_Program
carefully before you apply.
* We want everybody to be there! Even if you think you would not
qualify for travel support, *just submit a request*. If you don't ask
we can't help you!
* The Travel Committee can reimburse up to 80% of travel and lodging
costs. That includes plane, train and bus tickets (no taxi), car gas
on some occasions, and hotel or hostel.
Food and all local expenses are on you!
* The Travel Team won’t be able to book or pay anything in advance,
reimbursement comes afterwards, *based on receipts*.
* Again: *no receipts = no money* - such are the rules!
* Those who are sponsored have to write a blog or report on the event
& are expected to be available for helping out with things at the
event where needed!
* Sponsorship decisions are influenced by the openSUSE history of the
requester. Your involvement with openSUSE is really relevant!
* Having an abstract submitted for presentation at the conference is
relevant as well. Note that the CfP is extended so there is still
time: http://news.opensuse.org/2013/04/03/osc13-cfp-extends/
* If you got support before and complied with all the requirements
properly gets you bonus points too.
The amount requested must be detailed according to your request, like
the airport you will be departing from, sharing hotel/hostel rooms,
costs with your trip.
Try to get the best fares for tickets and lodging. Remember if
approved at least 20% (and sometimes more) will be paid by yourself.
Our goal is to support as many people as possible. If you need this
support to make it to the event, PLEASE SEND IN A REQUEST! We will
attempt to send the approvals before May 13th, 2013.
The conference is getting close and the deadline for travel support is
tight so start searching for flights and set up your connect account
as soon as possible!
We hope to see you there!

Hello
Sorry for this late mail. I have mailed Alessandra and have been
waiting for his reply. I finally found this mailing list and thought i
could get some response here.
I am Bhargav, a Computer Science undergraduate student from
BITS-Pilani, India. I am an avid mobile app developer. I worked on
Phonegap apps during GSoC 2012 with Apache Software Foundation and
have developed many Windows Phone apps. I am also well versed with
native android app development. I have developed an Android app[1] for
Exotel Techcom Pvt. Ltd. and it is being used by its clientele of over
2000 firms. My github account[2] will provide much more details about
my developer expertise.
In my search to find an organization that has challenging problem
statements in Mobile application areas, I found openSUSE and was very
much interested in the this project which requires a mobile app that
syncs with ownCloud News. While I was trying to come up with a
feasible solution and plan to write a good proposal, I got a few
questions.
1. Could I get a look at ownCloud News API documentation?
2. Why was a Phonegap app considered? It is known that Native apps are
faster than Phonegap apps. But, phonegap provides us the ability of
releasing multiple platforms at once. I am well versed with both
native and Phonegap app development. Answering this question will help
me in coming to a consensus regarding app's design.
Also, building native app provides us with the ability of optimizing
battery life of device without polling server for news.
3. I got this idea of a new notification when a user favourite topic
gets a new article. How would that be?
I would be very much obliged if I am provided with answers to these
questions and whatever questions that may arise in future as they will
help me in writing a good proposal and in turn get chosen to openSUSE.

I am really not worried about phonegap vs android sdk. One interesting
point of concern I had can phonegap support multipl e languages, which
I think should be necessary as planet.oo is written in many languages
> 2. By "notifying users of new articles", do you mean the actual

Again this can be a configurable option, and the features are upto you
to decide, one basic requirement that I have is that the rss feeds
should be propoerly parsed and the complete article should be
displayed on the app itself.
> 3. By openSuse news, do you mean the news on http://planet.opensuse.org/ ?
>
Well news.oo , planet.oo, connect feeds, twitter feeds, facebook
posts, Idea, event calendar etc. These are just examples, you can set
your own data sources, news.oo and planet.oo are a must.

Hello,
I am Kshitij and I would like to work on developing a new AppArmor profile
management tool to further strengthen the AppArmor project as my Google
Summer of Code project. I have been using both C/C++ and Python for a while
and hope to finish this project while learning more about open-source
culture.
The wonderful project proposed is a brain child of John Johansen and
Christian Boltz.
We believe its necessary to do rewrite of the profile management
application from scratch to fix all the pending bugs and make it more
maintainable.
Looking forward to support and any ideas that maybe presented.
Regards,
Kshitij Gupta
