Hi,
With the organization of oSC15 kicking into high gear
(https://news.opensuse.org/2014/12/11/conference-at-bink36-kicks-into-high-g…)
it is also time to start thinking ahead to oSC16. Therefore, the
openSUSE board is seeking applications from people interested to lead
the organization and host oSC16.
For those with historical trivia knowledge about our project the year
2016 will ring a bell. 2016 marks the 10 year anniversary of our
project, certainly a great reason to celebrate.
The requirements for a venue location can be found here:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Conference_venue_requirements
and we are looking forward to many great applications to host the
openSUSE conference in our ten year anniversary year of 2016.
Please submit proposals to the board mailing list, board(a)o.o, by March
15, 2015. We will try to make a decision about the location as quickly
as possible and invite one person from the organizational team to
participate in oSC15 in The Hague in early May. If everything goes as
planned we will announce the location for oSC16 at the upcoming oSC15.
Thank you for considering to host oSC16

Hi,
In the upcoming election to the openSUSE Board I am asking for your
vote to be re-elected to the openSUSE board. Over the past two years I
have very much cherished the privilege of being an openSUSE Board
member and being able to contribute to the project in that capacity.
For some details about me and what I believe is important please see
my blog entry
https://lizards.opensuse.org/2014/12/27/standing-for-re-election-opensuse-b…
that kicks of my re-election campaign.
If you have any questions please feel free to reply to this thread.
Thank you for your attention and considering me when you cast your
vote in January.

Hi,
The board meeting minutes for the board meetings on December 1st and
December 15th have now been posted to the wiki
(https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Board_meeting). Additionally a
rather large backlog of minutes has been refined.
For 2015 one of our goals is to be once again more timely in posting
the minutes.
We wish everyone a great new year.

#opensuse-project: openSUSE Project Meeting
===========================================
Meeting started by ilmehtar at 15:06:44 UTC. The full logs are
available at
http://community.opensuse.org/meetings/opensuse-project/2014/opensuse-proje…
.
Meeting summary
---------------
* Action Items Review
* oSC 15 organisation is progressing, more details are available in
the minutes of the last meeting
http://community.opensuse.org/meetings/opensuse-project/2014/opensuse-proje…
* More information about the current status of oSC 15 organisation is
available on news.opensuse.org -
https://news.opensuse.org/2014/12/11/conference-at-bink36-kicks-into-high-g…
* Any other business
* a few questions about 13.3's release schedule and 13.2's support
lifetime
* 13.2 will follow the same support formula as all openSUSE releases -
2 releases + 2 months. So it will depend on the (currently
undecided) release schedule for 13.3, but assuming a release
schedule of *at least* 8 months, then it should have a support
lifecycle of *at least* 18
* a longer release cycle for 13.3 and beyond will increase the support
lifecycle of 13.2 and subsequent releases
* Also, remember to file your bugs on bugzilla.opensuse.org if you
have issues with 13.2 or Tumbleweed :)
* openSUSE Board Elections
* Campaigning has started for the openSUSE Board Election 2014/2015
http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-project/2014-12/msg00026.html
* the Candidates this year are Kostas Koudaras, Michal Hrusecky, Craig
Gardner (*), Petter Linnel (*) and Robert Schweikert (*) -
Candidates marked with * are SUSE employees
* Ballots will open on Janurary 13 2015
* only openSUSE Members can vote, but there might still be time to
apply for Membership
* each openSUSE member will recieve 3 votes, one for each open Board
Seat
* Good luck to all the standing Board Candidates
Next Meeting will be at 1500 UTC on Jan 7th 2015
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

openSUSE election committee is glad to announce the beginning of
election campaign for openSUSE board election 2014/2015.
This campaign will be 4 weeks long (and will be able to continue until
ballots close).
As a reminder, ballots will open on January 13, 2015 and will close on
January 26, 2015.
The candidates running for an openSUSE board seat are (by alphabetical
order):
- Craig Gardner (*)
- Kostas Koudaras
- Michal Hrusecky (*)
- Peter Linnell (*)
- Robert Schweikert (*)
Candidates marked with a (*) are SUSE employees.
The candidates with the most votes will be elected for the board. 3
seats are open for vote.
Note that no single organization or company can control more than 40
percent of the electable board seats (more than 2 seats). Since no seat
is already occupied by a SUSE employee, only two additional SUSE
employee, at most, may be elected.
We'd like to ask each candidate to send (or send again, if they did
already in their announcement as candidate), on opensuse-project mailing
list, a short introduction of themselves and a short
manifesto/platform/program that gives answers to these topics:
Goal statement, Past work summary, Future plans.
The election committee also needs the openSUSE username, irc nickname
and a userpage in the wiki to reference the candidate. It is recommended
that they blog about their candidacy as this will reach a much wider
audience of voters. If their blog is not syndicated on Planet openSUSE,
please advise the committee who will ensure it does get added.

openSUSE Team,
I'm Craig Gardner (ganglia), and I hereby announce my candidacy for the openSUSE Board.
I am a SUSE employee, and I have really enjoyed working at SUSE for the past nearly-four years. My primary responsibilities at SUSE lie within the OPS Services team, where I provide expertise with the Build Service and with managing the sophisticated engineering infrastructure. I sit on The Attachmate Group Security Committee. Prior to working at SUSE I worked at Novell helping to put Open Enterprise Server onto SUSE Linux Enterprise Server. My blood is very green, although I also have long, extensive experience with other distros, too, starting with Slackware back in 1996.
Within the openSUSE community, I have participated on the Review Team and been a package maintainer for a handful of packages such as MuseScore and perftools. I keep a stack of openSUSE marketing materials in my office, in my car, and in my home, ready to distribute to friends and strangers alike whenever the opportunity presents itself. I have represented openSUSE at dozens of events, large and small. In fact I helped staff the openSUSE table at the SUSECon event in Orlando, Florida, in November 2014.
My interest in participating on the openSUSE Board revolves around these principle goals:
A) Improving the visibility of openSUSE among the huge variety of distro offerings that exist. Specifically, improving the amount of press and exposure of openSUSE to offset the over-represented exposure that other distros receive.
B) Promote openQA, and make it the bedrock of quality assurance for openSUSE. Improve the confidence of the community and the public in the quality of our great product!
C) Support the improvements that have been incrementally made over time by prior board members, building on their successes.
Vote for me on 13 Jan 2015! https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Board_election
