Dear openSUSE members, openSUSE Board Election 2021 [1] It's time to elect new Board members to fill empty seats on the openSUSE Board. There are two seats for election in accordance per our normal election cycle. This is a regular election as defined in our Election Rules [2] ## Phase 0 01 November 2021 - Announcement of the Board Election 2021 - Call for Nominations and Applications for Board candidacy - Membership drive 22 November 2020 - Nominations and Applications for Board candidacy close ## Phase 1 22 November 2021 - Announcement of the final list of candidates - Campaign begins - Membership drive continues, opportunity to apply for openSUSE Membership, but members will only be eligible to vote and not run as a candidate ## Phase 2 13 December 2021 - Ballots open: Please cast your vote during this time - Campaign continues 30 December 2021 - Ballots close 31 December 2021 - Announcement of results To stand for a position in the openSUSE Board please send an email to: * project(a)lists.opensuse.org and * election-officials(a)lists.opensuse.org If a member would like to nominate another member, please inform the Election Committee and the officials will contact the nominee to ask whether they would like to run as a Board candidate. Questions for Board candidates

Hi, we now have the campaign period for the Board election [1], so let's start some discussion. :-) I really liked both platforms, which doesn't make decision easier, but let's see... First usual question for everyone: if You are appointed as Board member, which new options does it open for You? I mean, You both are valuable contributors, You have been working like that for notable time already, and You can keep doing so even if You are not elected into the Board. So what new can You do in Board? What would You like to do, what is impossible without Board? How can Board move You forward? Maurizio, if I read Your platform [2] correctly, I see impressive contribution and experience, but I fail to find something like "election programme", i.e. Your plans for Your time in Board, what You wish to achieve, etc. Am I reading election profile, or "just" user profile...? Side comment, when we have election for academic senate of our faculty, plenty of candidates more or less just list their scientific work, basically CV, but don't elaborate, how they would act like "politicians" in the senate. I then think if I can decide only about level of expertise, or also how they are capable to cooperate, organize, find consensus and move the institution forward. So, Maurizio, if You could be more explicit in this way, it'd be great. Of course, people can vote for You based on Your great expertize, but given the Board's purpose, I'd rather expect people to emphasize their organizational, communication, mediating and other skills. And, of course, how they would like to move openSUSE forward. What is Your aim in Board? What is Your reason to candidate? Adathor, I found Your Motivation section [4] very interesting. The described issues indeed let a lot of bad blood behind... Despite You described various issues rather in indications, I wonder what do You propose as solution? I know it can't be easy, neither short process, but I suppose You have some steps or at least ideas in mind how to improve the situation. Could You be more concrete here? I ask because nice words about respect can stay just... nice words without any practical impact. Also, do You think the way how Board works, what is its purpose [3], etc. should/could/might be worth to discuss and possibly change? Similarly for overall governance of the project, direction where it is going to, etc. Going back to beginning, the "docracy" works in many aspects, but we also saw some examples, when it led to unpleasant conflicts... Total eligible voters: 542 Voters who cast ballots: 147 (including abstainers) Vote Count detail by candidate: Attila Pinter 122 for = 83%, 22 against, and 3 abstentions Maurizio Galli 120 for = 82%, 21 against, and 6 abstentions The newly elected Board members are: 1. Voting/Elections Complaint

Hello, I would like raise a complaint with the openSUSE Project overall. In July, I applied for membership so that I could have voting rights when elections come up. I followed up a number of times with a number of people including resubmitting the application on the membership Pagure page at the suggesting of others. I am questioning how we can run an election when there are pending applicants for membership. In addition, I am confused as to why it takes almost 5 months to receive a response regarding a membership to a community where I spend a lot of time and have provided resources.
