I just noticed today that the gmane.linux.suse.opensuse.user group is
missing from gmane.org - did the project request the list be removed from
gmane?
Just wondering if it was intentional or if something went wrong somewhere.
Thanks,
Jim

I am seeing this with an openSUSE 12.1 system at home, and also a
Factory system at work:
% host download.opensuse.orgdownload.opensuse.org has address 195.135.221.134
download.opensuse.org has IPv6 address 2001:67c:2178:8::13
And then, when running zypper patch or zypper up, I see
Retrieving: repomd.xml [error]
Download (curl) error for
'http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.1/repodata/repomd.xml':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Failed to connect to 2001:67c:2178:8::13: Network is unreachable
Alas, my provider nor that network at work support IPv6. Still, my
system has IPv6 enabled since roaming around on different networks,
IPv6 may be present, or even necessary there.
(This does not happen all the time, sometimes if I retry a bit later
the system uses IPv4 and everything works.)
Now, is this just a setup problem and I should simply and
unconditionally disable IPv6?
Or are some parts of our update or network stack in need of
some adjustments?
For the time being, unless this is just me running into this,
should we disable IPv6 on download.opensuse.org?

Dear all,
I have came across interesting article[1] about school that switched
to Linux. What is interesting is interaction with community that in
moment was not too flattering, but again not too bad. :)
Anyway i would propose some kind of article for first page of
opensuse.org or i do not know exactly how/where - "How to help you
switch / how to get volunteers to help you".
I think that we have a lot of people who are willing to help even
going on site and do consulting or even working with them.

Hello Folks,
GSoC 2013 is finally coming to end. That being said, I had a great
time working on Building a discussion system for the Open Build
Service. I have learnt a lot in the past ~3 months and thankful to the
people who guided and mentored me.
Here are two posts I wrote on my work and lessons learnt:
1. Technical details:
http://blog.wrkb.in/post/62022570851/part-1-of-3-technical-details-of-the-g…
2. Lessons learnt:
http://blog.wrkb.in/post/62329077937/part-2-of-3-lessons-learned-from-my-gs…
3. GSoC Experience: To come later (once gsoc ends).
I hope people enjoyed the work we did as part of the GSoC project.
Bye for now. Have a great year ahead.
Cheers!

Hello,
I've had a wonderful time being a part of Google Summer of Code 2013.
The GSoC ended this week.
The following blogpost lists, the tasks performed in Final Week and
remaining goals at the end of GSoC.
http://kshitijblogs.blogspot.com/2013/09/gsoc-final-week_24.html
Besides, I have also put up a blogpost (not technical) summarising my
experience at GSoC:
http://kshitijblogs.blogspot.com/2013/09/gsoc13-journey-and-experience.html
I hope, I wasn't much trouble and appreciate the support. :-)
Kshitij out for GSoC'13.

Hello,
I updated my blog with the following post:
http://tichygsoc.blogspot.hu/2013/09/the-road-so-far.html
I wrote a tutorial about using syslog-ng with redis, attached some
sample config file and finally a complex one, that could be a case
from everyday.
Stay tuned, I intend to maintain the code after gsoc too!
All the best,
Tihi

Hi,
It is time to think a bit ahead into the year 2015, time flies when you
are having fun. While we are all looking forward to the openSUSE Summit
in November in Florida, and the openSUSE Conference 2014 (oSC14) at the
end of April 2014 in Dubrovnik it is time to get the location search for
oSC15 started.
The openSUSE board invites you to consider organizing and hosting the
openSUSE conference in 2015. The openSUSE Conference (oSC) is the
primary yearly gathering of Geekos from around the world. The conference
venue requirements can be found on the openSUSE wiki
(https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Conference_venue_requirements .) This
is your chance to show the world of Geekos the hospitality and culture
of your country. One member of the organizing team will be invited to
attend oSC14 at the end of April, 2014 in Dubrovnik and present the
location of oSC15.
Please submit your proposals to either opensuse-project(a)opensuse.org or
board(a)opensuse.org. We are happy to consider proposals from teams that
would like to organize the event but are currently not actively involved
with the openSUSE community. Proposals are accepted starting now until
the end of the year (2013). The board will make a decision about the
2015 location early in 2014 with an announcement to be made at oSC14.
oSC15 should take place in the March-May time frame in 2015, roughly 1
year after oSC14. Your proposal should include a description of the
location (city/town and venue) and provide information about your
organization team and any experience you may have had organizing other
events. Items to consider are cost of lodging around the venue, access
to public transportation to and from the airport/train station and
hotels to venue, and proximity to a venue for a party.
Thanks you for considering to host oSC15, we are looking forward to
receiving your proposal.
The openSUSE Board

Hi,
openSUSE Board election time is approaching and we are looking for
volunteers to form the Election Committee. Based on our interpretation
of the rules 4 seats are up for grabs but this will have to be confirmed
by the Election Committee. Obviously those considering running for a
board position should not be part of the committee.
The rules are documented here:
http://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Board_election_rules
The responsibilities of the committee are as follows:
+ Defining how many seats are up for election
+ Define the mix of one and two year term seats
+ Create a schedule for the elections
+ Handling and verifying of candidate nominations
+ Work with candidates to get candidate information posted
+ Collaborating with the Membership Officials to ensure that
membership applications are processed in time
+ Checking and testing of our voting setup before the real voting
+ Validating the election results
+ Resolving any post-results issues
+ Announce results and post them to the wiki
We had a number of elections previously and thus you can piggy back on
work that has been done in previous years. This is very important to the
project, if you are not considering to be a candidate for the board
please consider to volunteer on the committee. It is a limited time
"position" (until shortly after the election results are posted), but is
a great way to provide a valuable contribution.
If you are interested in participating on the Election Committee please
send a message to the board mailing list.
Thanks,
Your openSUSE Board
