Regular Community Meeting: July 31

Hi all, I wanted to send out an email before this Saturday's regular scheduled meeting. The meeting will take place at 17:00 UTC. With the deactivation of connect.o.o., I think this Saturday would be a good time to go over the membership application process we have established using connect.o.o. (https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Members) and identify processes we will need to change so that we have a procedure established for when connect.o.o. goes offline. Last week we completed the software.o.o. proposal. I hope to give a status update on this during the Aug. 21 meeting. I'll be on holiday for the next couple meetings following this Saturday's meeting. lifecycle wiki page

Hi all, There was a recent post on reddit (https://old.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/m1xl56/is_opensuse_leap_ready_to_be…) that made us take a look at how to present our lifecycle page (https://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime) and info to be added to the marketing of Leap 15.3. There were several comments on reddit that can be summarized as there is a lack of clear information on how long the lifecycle of Leap 15.x will be going forward. When the info on https://en.opensuse.org/Lifetime was originally written, there was some clarity on major versions lasting a minimum of 36 months. We know Leap 42 and 15 exceeded that lifecycle. It looks like we're at a point where we evolved and need to provide a bit more clarity for people based on the reddit comments I propose we change the lifecycle page to include the following sentences and include the info in the marketing of Leap 15.3 and beyond (for the foreseeable future): Leap *Major Release* (15.x) extends maintenance and support until a successor. At present, a successor has not been declared; Leap 15's lifecycle fully aligns with SUSE Linux Enterprise. There is a projection as of March 2021 that Leap 15 will extend to Leap 15.5. Both major versions of Leap 42 and 15 were supported more than 36 months. Any thoughts, changes, removals or additions to the above sentences. v/r Doug

Evergreen, where has the Long Term Support gone...

Good morning, So, question. We use to have Evergreen which was going to be our LTS version, so that when a distro reached the magical .3 in the release, we could switch to Evergreen. I haven't seen anything on it in while, has Evergreen stopped? Do we not have any LTS version? I am switching a lot of systems from openSUSE 42.3 to 15.3, and I am saddened by the number of software packages that seem to have been removed. One of the reasons I started using SuSE back in the day was, it had the most packages, which was awesome. Here is an example, Nginx has a log of module packages that are no longer there. Oh, please don't tell me to go too software.opensuse.org, is great only if people keep their software up-to-date. I don't know how many packages I have found only to get that it going to do break major things. Even Tumbleweed seems to be losing packages. [opensuse-project] Can one manually become a "Member Emeritus"

Hi all, after reading https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Members, I understand that I can cancel my membership status with immediate effect and forever. To become a "Member Emeritus", with a "way back" into the community in case things might turn good again, I have to wait for the status request and just not respond to it. But the last such request was almost 3 years ago. IIUC I need to stop all actions on the mailing lists (might be a good idea ;-)) and packaging (not so good) for the bot to pick me up. So is there a manual procedure to follow to become "Member Emeritus"? Hi all, I wanted to send out an email before our regular scheduled meeting this Saturday. There are two meetings planned for this Saturday. Adrien has kindly offered to run a meeting at 11:00 UTC and the other meeting will take place at 17:00 UTC according to the results we had from the survey. I will attend the 17:00 meeting and have a proposal I will present to attendees regarding software.o.o. I saw the discussion from last week and don't want to veer away from the time we promised to do a meeting based on the survey. Adrien and I plan to chat about the two meetings and going forward over a couple weeks we can determine if we need something different or want to make it during the middle of the week or find some sort of rotating time. Proposed outline on regular community meetings

Hi all, The results of a recent community survey found that 72.46% of respondents believed having a regular weekly meeting for the openSUSE Community is a good idea. To have a regular meeting outside the other technical meetings that exist within the project,, it would be good to have a structure and set of protocols for the meetings. Furthermore, it would make sense to have a couple people willing to take ownership of leading the meetings. I know I can not make a meeting this Saturday since I'm at a wedding the whole weekend. The idea of a regular community meetings came about to: Improve openSUSE projects’ communications Improve the social environment and awareness of projects within the openSUSE Project Understand how projects and participants interact and are structured Below is the proposed outline for the meeting. Meeting Details Date: Every Saturday from 17:00 to 19:00 UTC (per the survey) Location: https://meet.opensuse.org/meeting Etherpad: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/weeklymeeting Moderator: (A group or team of two to three people willing to rotate ownership, takes notes and sends email) Leader: (Person willing to lead a topic for the week) Supporters: (People willing to support the topic being discussed) Topic: (Default Topic is completely a social meeting) Planned topics/proposal: (Should be submitted in Meeting Notes one week before) Impromptu topics: (If time allows and nothing is planned) Topics can involve a tech talk, project proposals, sprint, wiki gardening, desktop or package development, marketing, etc. This is basically a meeting for the community to be decided. Becoming github/openSUSE member

So, I'm already an openSUSE member, but how do I get added to the openSUSE github organization? I'd like to possibly add a package there. Also, what are the standards for adding something there? I've got a package that isn't openSUSE-specific, but is un-maintained/barely-maintained in the community. I'm planning to resurrect it, and thought openSUSE might be a good place to make its home.
