Hello ppl ,
Well after having a quite short discussion on Google Wave over the IRC
(unfortunately we dont have minutes for this )and how it would help in
marketing the product ,we actually came to a decision that we need more
testers to get to know its advantages as most of us were not very much
sure with its working and benefits.Later on ( almost after 2 weeks) a
date would be scheduled to have a meet up on this topic and then present
our views and feedback for the same .
So if you are well versed with the Wave thing then have some more time
testing it and tune in to the next session. And if you are not then this
the time, shoot it . **Time is running**
:)
Remember: Sign up your names over here -
http://en.opensuse.org/SocNet/GooleWave_user_list - to get more contacts
for better testing and analyzing.
Have a lot of fun !

Could you link the platform pages from the main election page
(http://en.opensuse.org/Board_Election/2009) like for 2008, please?
Thanks,
Andreas

Hello,
Is it normal that in the repo KDE:Backports, the translations from
KOffice are in version 2.1.0-2.1 but that the programs (koffice2,
koffice2-karbon...) are still in version 2.0.2-6.3. Should it not
entirely be in version 2.1?
Could anyone from KDE team check, please, it's so since a few days.
Thanks in advance,
Jean

Hello,
I will do my best over the next weeks till the doctors find and hopely get
my many sudden Medical issuse under control. Please be patient with me
and my email or communications
I have symptoms of a stroke but not signs right now of own on MRI and
other tests.
The problem manifests its self in 4 baskic ways.
1. I talk or wrie email that makes not sense. I preceive it to be good
english but it is not.
2. I have vertigo and can not tell where any thing is.
3. I studder or repeat letters words etc. but see them as being correct.
4. Sunden loss to communicate in any form. and memory loss.
I do have moments of clarity where I am attempting to meed the obligations
I have to the community. I will do my best but many things may lag or not
get done because of the memory issues where I think I have done them.
I am hope this will only be a short time till it is under control, but I
thought I had better let the community know what is going on as I am
trying to lead and be a member of many parts of the community,
Thanks for the understanding.

Maybe, like houghi already suggested, it would be good with a list
of "orphan packages" or "packages seeking maintainer"?

11.2 seems like a generally well received release, with some good
reviews, and flaws are much less obvious than in 11.1. One of the
11.1 features was smolt, now I see it installed under 11.2; but I've
not found it in the Installation workflow, even with autoconfig off,
and doing net connection test and updates.
There's a Distrowatch review now, which unfortunately is one of those
"Ubuntu & Mandriva" worked, "openSUSE crashes and is unstable"
vareity. There are many who had opposite experience, but it would be
nice to be able to rise above anecdotes and have actuall figures.
Does the openSUSE community have any way to see the extent of
baremetal pre-release testing, and idea of what others are running?
It would be nice, if 11.1, & 11.2 had a quick way of reporting
regressions; hardware that worked but no longer does, so to back the
Release Notes. May be feedback from real end users?
What about a counter, telling ppl how often the 11.2 update repo was queried?
Did smolt go anywhere or was it not as useful as hoped?

Hi openSUSE community,
the upcoming openSUSE 11.2 is the first release of openSUSE which will
be coordinated by the openSUSE community when it comes to the update
process.
In the past the maintenance team was working in the background and
provided you with the newest and best updates. The update decision was a
completely internal process. Now we will make it more transparent and
let the whole community participate.
The future is: The community will do updates for openSUSE in
self-responsibility.
The update process will be coordinated by the new openSUSE maintenance
team. At the moment it consists of 5 people, 2 SUSE employees and 3
openSUSE community members.
Every user can send an update request now to this team.
This team will decide over the requests and coordinates the whole
updates progress (plan the release time according to the severity,
interact with the package maintainer, coordinate QA testing, ...) based
on a new update policy. It guarantees the best supply with updates.
Only maintenance (tagged as recommended, optional, YOU) updates are
affected by this change. Security updates will be provided on the old
and approved way by the SUSE security team. This is the fastest and
established way to react on security problems.
Everybody can enjoy and help to improve openSUSE and influence the
development. There is a lot of work in the whole update process. So
enjoy! Every openSUSE user can help to improve our distribution.
You can help e.g. in:
- notify interesting bugs that should be fixed by a maintenance update
- work as a QA tester and check testing updates to improve the quality
and give feedback
- help us to create a new maintenance policy
- work in the maintenance team
- work as a package maintainer and provide the updates
- work as a junior maintainer and learn to build packages and provide
minor fixes
- ...
For questions, update request, feedback you can use the mailing list of
the maintenance team (maintenance(a)opensuse.org).
So enjoy and have a lot fun :-)
Greetings,
Christian
