I just noticed today that the gmane.linux.suse.opensuse.user group is
missing from gmane.org - did the project request the list be removed from
gmane?
Just wondering if it was intentional or if something went wrong somewhere.
Thanks,
Jim

I am seeing this with an openSUSE 12.1 system at home, and also a
Factory system at work:
% host download.opensuse.orgdownload.opensuse.org has address 195.135.221.134
download.opensuse.org has IPv6 address 2001:67c:2178:8::13
And then, when running zypper patch or zypper up, I see
Retrieving: repomd.xml [error]
Download (curl) error for
'http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.1/repodata/repomd.xml':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Failed to connect to 2001:67c:2178:8::13: Network is unreachable
Alas, my provider nor that network at work support IPv6. Still, my
system has IPv6 enabled since roaming around on different networks,
IPv6 may be present, or even necessary there.
(This does not happen all the time, sometimes if I retry a bit later
the system uses IPv4 and everything works.)
Now, is this just a setup problem and I should simply and
unconditionally disable IPv6?
Or are some parts of our update or network stack in need of
some adjustments?
For the time being, unless this is just me running into this,
should we disable IPv6 on download.opensuse.org?

All,
I did not know where to post this, so -project as my default.
Per: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Live_USB_stick#Put_ISO_on_vfat_partitioned_USB_s…
if you don't want to reformat your thumb drive a user should install:
http://software.opensuse.org/package/live-fat-stick
or
http://software.opensuse.org/package/live-usb-gui
Both are only available in a home project from what I see.
I did a quick test of live-fat-stick yesterday and it worked fine for
me, but I don't think our documentation should be pointing at home
projects? Especially ones like this where it seems all you are
installing is a shell script. The script could do all kinds of
nefarious activities and not have anyone but the project owner looking
at it at all?
Are there any guidelines? Should we ask that live-usb-gui get pushed
to factory (assuming that adds some security protection)?

Hi guys,
I'm writing on behalf of HrOpen (www.open.hr - Croatian association for
open systems and Internet), a Croatian NGO, where I am the president,
and my day work is at FER (http://www.fer.hr/en) - Faculty of Electrical
Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, as an Internet services
architect. I started using SuSE with version 8.2.
This is not a full proposal with details and prices yet, I haven't had
time to prepare it since we were shoulder-deep in organization of our
jubilee 20th open source and free software conference DORS/CLUC
(http://2013.dorscluc.org/en/) 15th - 17th May, which we traditionally
organize in cooperation with another NGO - HULK - Croatian Linux users'
association.
Some more info on our conference:
-
http://joinup.ec.europa.eu/news/croatian-president-supports-free-software-c…
-
http://joinup.ec.europa.eu/community/osor/news/croatias-president-praises-c…
In short, we would like to propose Dubrovnik for oSC14. The conference
would be held at University of Dubrovnik, we have contacts there with
which we would collaborate. In addition to ~10 volunteers from our
organizations, I also expect students from Dubrovnik to register as
volunteers for on-site conference support.
I will gather and systematically arrange more info throughout the next
week and get back to you, but I would also like to know if you guys are
initially interested. :-)
Best regards,
Svebor Prstačić

Hello Everyone,
After months of hard work and discussion, we're finally ready to make
significant changes to the Ambassador programme.
The article at http://news.opensuse.org/2013/05/10/ambassadors-event-merchendise-all-chang…
goes into detail about what is changing and why, but to summarize
- Our openSUSE Ambassadors are being renamed to 'openSUSE Advocates',
and the process is opened up so anyone can volunteer themselves as an
Advocate without needing to be vetted by the Ambassador Welcome Team
- We're introducing a new role of 'Local Coordinator' and looking for
volunteers. These local coordinators will be a designated point of
contact for new openSUSE users/contributors who need help finding
their way around the project, and also responsible for helping
organize and report on the activities of the openSUSE Advocates in
their area. Details and how to sign up can be found on the wiki:
https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Local_Coordinator
- Also, changes are being made regarding the Merchandising for Events.
Instead of boxes of PromoDVD's, specialised boxes full of high quality
items, everything openSUSE Advocates need to fully equip a booth, are
being put together. These will be shipped (by the openSUSE Team at
SUSE) in advance of events. It's expected that our new Local
Coordinators will be a big part of putting together a list of events
so we will know which events need what materials.
We hope these changes are to everyone's liking. Please let us know
what you think, and pardon any dust and rough edges while we
transition from the old to the new
Regards,
Richard Brown
