Was the competence of Zypper taken into consideration here? I can't remember the
last time I did an offline upgrade - 2009 it could have been. I download GM
.isos for use with installation on computers not my own, but rarely use them for
anything else. Zypper is just too good to waste time in single user mode do do a
distribution upgrade that is virtually indistinguishable from ordinary updating,
and can readily be prevented from upgrading selected packages via Zypper's
intuitive locking system.

Hi everyone,
First and foremost, on behalf of the openSUSE Project, I would like to
personally thank Zaitor (Bjørn Lie) for his many years of dedication to
the openSUSE Project as a GNOME packager and maintainer. Thank you
Zaitor for everything you have done over the past decade for openSUSE,
GNOME and open-source users worldwide.
All open-source projects experience an attrition rate and the openSUSE
Project is looking for a person to work closely with upstream GNOME to
help maintain and package it for openSUSE releases. Packaging is a big
part of the maintaining requirement. There are roughly 600 package to be
maintained. Members of the openSUSE community can help with packaging to
get the new GNOME maintainer fully up to date on GNOME packaging and
maintaining for openSUSE releases. New maintainers, along with members
of the community, also help to double check the packaging that people
assist with for a release. A proficiency in packaging is necessary and
volunteers will build a close relationship with upstream GNOME.
If you are interested, visit the GNOME team on IRC in the
#opensuse-gnome <irc://irc.freenode.org/opensuse-gnome>channel or
subscribe and email opensuse-gnome(a)opensuse.org
<mailto:opensuse-gnome@opensuse.org>.
Respectfully,
Douglas DeMaio, openSUSE Project

Just a reminder about this weekend's outage (sending to multiple mailing lists
to reach more people, sorry for the cross-posting). Please also be aware that
due to technical constraints, the above services will not be available through
IPv6 during the outage.

Hi all,
Members of the openSUSE community have been working with
Linux-Magzine.com to publish a special edition of a Getting Started With
Linux magazine (cover attached). I am thrilled to inform you that this
100-page magazine featuring openSUSE Leap 42.3 will be available on
newsstands throughout the globe over the coming months. The distribution
of the magazines are expected to bring more openSUSE users to our
community. You might see more asking questions about using openSUSE in
the coming months even though the magazine does a great job of
explaining the basics.
The project has received 3,000 of these magazines to be used for various
purposes like distributing at conferences. In addition to distributing
some at conferences, we would like to also send a package to people who
could distribute them to their local university, college, computer
science class or Linux user group. There are 30 magazines in a pack and
I can send you a package if you are willing to distribute it to one of
the above mentioned target groups. If you are willing to do this, please
reply with your full name, mailing address and phone number so I send
you a package.
I would like to thank the people in our community who helped to make the
Getting Started With Linux magazine possible, and thank you to the
community members who are helping to bring openSUSE to users throughout
the world.
Have a lot of fun!
Respectfully,
Doug
