In case you haven't noticed, openSUSE's Board now holds its meetings in
public. Our bi-monthly meetings are held in the #openSUSE-project
channel on Wednesdays, the same day as the regular Project meeting.
This gives you a chance to not only observe our proceedings, but also to
participate by asking questions and making suggestions during our Q&A's.
Our next Board meeting will be Wednesday, December 16th at 19:00 UTC.
http://bit.ly/92VEwt for the time in your local area. As always, the
meetings are on IRC in the #opensuse-project channel on the Freenode
Network. [1]
So what about this week's meeting?
In addition to our regularly conducted business, we will also be closing
the end of the first term of the first-ever openly-elected openSUSE
Board. We will express our appreciation for departing Board Member
Stephen Shaw and welcome new members, Rupert Horstkötter and Pavol
Rusnak. The new members will officially assume their new seats on
December 22nd.
Pascal Bleser (Yaloki) and Henne Vogelsang will begin the second year of
their current term, Michael Loeffler will continue on as Board
Chairperson and Bryen Yunashko (me) will begin his second term on the
Board on December 22nd.
This will be the final meeting of 2009. After tomorrow's meeting, we
will determine the start date for the first meeting of the Second Board
in 2010.
We look forward to seeing you there to help us conclude the end of a
great year for the openSUSE Project.

The next openSUSE Project meeting will take place Wednesday, December 16th, at
16:00 UTC. The meeting time in all time zones are listed on the Fixed Time
World Clock[1]. Project meetings are always held in the #opensuse-project
channel on Freenode.
Note that this will be the last meeting of 2009. The next scheduled
meeting would
have fallen on December 30, which is not likely to be a convenient
time for most
contributors.
Please add your topics to the meeting wiki page at:

Please add topics as soon as possible. Also, if you have questions for the
meeting, but can’t attend (we know that the meeting times can’t work for
everyone) please add them to the agenda as well. We also take live questions,
of course. Logs of the meeting are posted to the wiki here:

Hi folks,
Some of you maybe already knows me (or at least heard about me)
I actually maintain LXDE repository and i'm sending LXDE into factory to
try to have it into our OSS repo
there is also and openfate feautre here [1].
because of that reasons, and because i noticed more and more interesting
on lxde, since openSUSE users try, test, and e-mail me about LXDE, i
would like to ask if can be possible to open a new mailing list for lxde.
opensuse-lxde(a)opensuse.org should be fine i think
thanks for reading

This brings back the question why we need the source RPM at all.
The only reason I could think of is that people using other distros
can easily download out sources.
If openSUSE users would either resourt to OSC or to the software
installation tools shipped by openSUSE (zypper, YaST, ...) we
didn't even need SRPMS at all. Those tools could be modified to
use OSC to download the sources from the build system.
This would just require meta information about the location of
the packages in the build system and an anonymous read only access.
Implementing this would be a more worthwhile project than tools
that would generate SPRMS from the build system.
Additionally the sources could be installed in saner places than
/usr/src/packages/SOURCES where they are currently installed by
default. Which - as Peter already stated - is a dangerous palce
when installing sources for more than one package.
Cheers,
Egbert.

Hello,
where can I find an organigramm (organisational diagram) of the openSUSE
project, with or without “dotted lines” to Novell (which we assume exist) ?
Thanks,

Hrm, you are talking about something entirely different, aren't you?
Indeed when the source disk had been done away with (years ago!) I
regretted this decision because I was no longer able to carry everything
with me.
But this is an entirely different matter. Neither I nor a number of
previous posts touched on this issue.
Cheers,
Egbert.

Hi opensuse-project,
(note: I am sending this here because I'm not sure where else to send
it. I registered in bugzilla, but there doesn't seem to be a good
place to file this bug. Also there doesn't appear to be a mailing
list that's a better fit either so...)
I was looking on the website and I had problems finding the source for
11.2. I looked on
http://software.opensuse.org/112/enhttp://en.opensuse.org/Download_Helphttp://download.opensuse.org/distribution/11.2/iso/
On
http://mirrors.opensuse.org/
there is a column for 11.2 source, but none of the mirrors in the US
have it? And very few mirrors in the world do?
Eventually I found it at
http://download.opensuse.org/source/distribution/11.1/repo/oss/suse/src/
but it was pretty non-intuitive and buried.
I was also expecting to find a source ISO, but I guess there aren't any?
Providing a source ISO would,
* make it a lot easier to download (and verify) the full source for a
release
* make it easier for mirrors to provide the source. As noted above
hardly any do right now, I suspect if source ISOs were available
nearly all would.
* allow people distributing binary CDs/DVDs to distribute source as well
I think this would help them fulfil the requirements of the GPLv2, see
http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#UnchangedJustBinaryhttp://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#DistributeWithSourceOnInternet
* make opensuse as cool and Debian and Fedora :)
Could you please consider making source ISOs and making it easy to
find on the website?
Thanks,

P.S. it was difficult for me to participate, I had to create a novell
account (which wanted to send me things by default) in order to use
bugzilla, and I had to subscribe to opensuse-project in order to send this
mail. Had I known it was going to be this much trouble I might not have
bothered...
