[Notice] - openSUSE Regular Board election 2021

Dear openSUSE members, openSUSE Board Election 2021 [1] It's time to elect new Board members to fill empty seats on the openSUSE Board. There are two seats for election in accordance per our normal election cycle. This is a regular election as defined in our Election Rules [2] ## Phase 0 01 November 2021 - Announcement of the Board Election 2021 - Call for Nominations and Applications for Board candidacy - Membership drive 22 November 2020 - Nominations and Applications for Board candidacy close ## Phase 1 22 November 2021 - Announcement of the final list of candidates - Campaign begins - Membership drive continues, opportunity to apply for openSUSE Membership, but members will only be eligible to vote and not run as a candidate ## Phase 2 13 December 2021 - Ballots open: Please cast your vote during this time - Campaign continues 30 December 2021 - Ballots close 31 December 2021 - Announcement of results To stand for a position in the openSUSE Board please send an email to: * project(a)lists.opensuse.org and * election-officials(a)lists.opensuse.org If a member would like to nominate another member, please inform the Election Committee and the officials will contact the nominee to ask whether they would like to run as a Board candidate. Only openSUSE members are eligible to run for openSUSE Board openings in accordance with the Eligibility and Validity section of our Election Rules [2]. Local Material Production Reimbursement

Had a question come to me regarding this: https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Local_Material_Production_Reimbursement The system used to use connect.opensuse.org, which is no longer functional - but does the project still provide this? I haven't seen a request for this in years - had forgotten I was even involved in this way back when - not sure what our current process is or if we even have one any more. Who can help out? MINUTES BOARD MEETING 14 FEBRUARY 2022 Present: Gerald, Neal, Gertjan, Maurizio, Attila, Axel, Syds, Douglas, Lubos, taj (Emily) and Max Date: 14 February 2022 Time: 13.30 - 14.30 CET #1 Cardano (https://code.opensuse.org/leap/features/issue/59) Lubos: 2 weeks ago Lubos received an email from Mark about openSUSE meets Cardano, with 3 different requests. 1. Cardano OS, build on top of oS Leap Micro to run on mobile devices or routers (e.g Turris devices) 2. There is a treasury available with funds for different projects distributed by Project Catalyst (https://projectcatalyst.org/resources/what-is-project-catalyst). Funding can't go via oS, but if Cardano wants to fund people they can do it themselves to work on OBS or other 3. OBS and Github integration which has to be checked with OBS developers directly There is a fund involved (not an option for openSUSE, maybe for SUSE) Cardano OS, build on top of openSUSE Leap Micro (what does this mean?) running on a small router? and on top of openshift? Project Catalyst (https://projectcatalyst.org/resources/what-is-project-catalyst) OBS and Github integration Cardano is creating a decentralist cloud (like StackOS?) Mark also contacted Doug about some numbers from openSUSE project Gerald: we already have powerpc, arm, etc teams. So in general there is not a `contract` necessary with openSUSE. Why would we object if people volunteer to do the work Mau: There is no need for the Board to stop/approve this nor we can tell our developers what to do. Let Cardano reach out to the openSUSE community, and individuals can decide if they are interested in such project. funding can't go via openSUSE, but if Cardano wants to fund people they can do it themselves to work on OBS or other things. It's about 20k per year. Doug and Syds will go over the outstanding requests together for the oSC Board travel goes through SUSE (Monika Bach) #3 Trademark request https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Trademark_guidelines Using openSUSE logo with a tutorial is not mentioned in the guidelines. Axel will update the guidelines to include tutorials. Someone asked if they can use the logo in a tutorial on YouTube. We agree that that is possible. #4 membership officials. Emily requested to join the membership officials. Last meeting we discussed the procedure to appoint new members. Gerald sent an email to memberships officials and board to discuss it. everybody needs to look at it and sent remarks. Call for Papers opens for Summit in Albania

The openSUSE community has opened the call for papers for a summit that will be held in conjunction with Open Source Conference Albania (OSCAL) 2022. People can submit a talk for the openSUSE Summit at OSCAL 2022 from now until April 26 on events.opensuse.org. You can read more about it at https://news.opensuse.org/2022/02/23/cfp-opens-summit-in-albania/ Additionally, the CfP for the openSUSE Conference is open until April 14. oSC22 Hotels, Meeting & Week 8 Community Meeting

Hi all, We found out last week that Rock im Park will be happening at the same time as the openSUSE Conference 2022. Many who attend this event tend to camp, but like any big concert, people will travel and stay at hotels. Rock im Park also happened at the same time as oSC16 and there wasn't a noticeable disruption. There are a list of hotels on https://events.opensuse.org/conferences/oSC22. We recommend you make a reservation at a hotel ASAP. There are also many airbnb places that look pretty inexpensive. We will have Regular Community Meeting tomorrow at 14:30 UTC. At 19:00 UTC tomorrow, we will also have a planning meeting for the openSUSE Conference and openSUSE Summit at OSCAL. Please join us if you are interested. We will discuss the keynote speakers. oS Leap 15.4 Kernel difference between install and OBS

Hi, The last few days I've been trying to install a broadcom-wl package from 2 different home repos for my newly installed Macbook Air 2015. However I keep getting the same error while installing, as the kernel version from the broadcom-wl package does not match the installed kernel. Leap 15.4 Alpha: 5.14.21-150400.3.3.x86_64 OBS and PBS: 5.14.21-150400.6.2.x86_64 Why is there a difference between these kernels? Also can we expect an update for the kernel to version xx6.2?
