I am seeing this with an openSUSE 12.1 system at home, and also a
Factory system at work:
% host download.opensuse.orgdownload.opensuse.org has address 195.135.221.134
download.opensuse.org has IPv6 address 2001:67c:2178:8::13
And then, when running zypper patch or zypper up, I see
Retrieving: repomd.xml [error]
Download (curl) error for
'http://download.opensuse.org/update/12.1/repodata/repomd.xml':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Failed to connect to 2001:67c:2178:8::13: Network is unreachable
Alas, my provider nor that network at work support IPv6. Still, my
system has IPv6 enabled since roaming around on different networks,
IPv6 may be present, or even necessary there.
(This does not happen all the time, sometimes if I retry a bit later
the system uses IPv4 and everything works.)
Now, is this just a setup problem and I should simply and
unconditionally disable IPv6?
Or are some parts of our update or network stack in need of
some adjustments?
For the time being, unless this is just me running into this,
should we disable IPv6 on download.opensuse.org?
Gerald

Hi,
Could someone please setup a wiki page (in case there isn't one yet),
so we can add a link to software.o.o? That would be cool.
Greetings, Stephan

On the web page http://software.opensuse.org/122/en there is a
section on verifying the download. I just spent an hour trying to
discover how the hell to actually use the dadgum .asc file,
how to download the signing key with --recv-key, etc.
Do you think you could link to some more detailed instructions
there somewhere (cause I'm not gonna remember any of this
by the time I want to verify the next release).
Thanks.

Hey,
please note the Call for Papers from the FOSDEM Distro Mini Conf.
You have until December 20th to submit your talk/BoF/round table. Make
use of this awesome mini conf and hold talks before a room full of other
distribution developers.

Subject: [Distributions] Call for sessions: cross-distributions devroom
Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2012 09:05:03 +0100
From: Wouter Verhelst <wouter(a)debian.org>
Organization: The Debian Project, http://www.debian.org/
To: distributions(a)lists.fosdem.org
CC: fosdem(a)lists.fosdem.org
Hello World,
This is the official call for sessions for the FOSDEM 2013
cross-distributions devroom. As in previous years, any session relating
to distributions development is welcome. Since this is an opportunity
for different distributions to cooperate, we're specifically looking for
sessions that are of interest to people from multiple distributions;
however, if you have something interesting to talk about that is of more
interest to just one particular distribution, that is certainly welcome
too.
Sessions can be things like talks, roundtables, or BoFs; anything is
welcome. However, please note that for roundtables or BoFs, I'd still
like one or more people to step up as moderator, who'll be listed as
'speaker' on the schedule.
If you want to hold a session in the distributions devroom, please send
an email to the distributions(a)lists.fosdem.org mailinglist, containing
the following information:
- Your name
- A (short) bio
- (optionally) a picture
- A title for the talk
- A description of the talk (just a paragraph or two will do)
- Your desired timeslot duration (30 or 60 minutes)
- If you already have that information, your availability during the
FOSDEM weekend to help us schedule the sessions.
And this no later than december 20th, 2012, which is two months less one
week from now. That isn't a lot of time, so please don't hesitate too
long in proposing a session.
Please also forward this call for sessions to your appropriate
distribution-specific mailinglist(s), so we can actually get some
sessions to appear.
Thanks,

Copyshops should do vouchers. So that next time some bureaucracy
requires you
to mail a form in triplicate, you can mail it just once, add a voucher, and
save on postage.

Hi,
After the call for volunteers for the Election Committee, three people
agreed to step up: Izabel Valverde, Thomas Schmidt and Bryen Yunashko.
They will work on organizing the elections, and will publish a timeline
to explain when the different steps will occur. This will take a few
days since Izabel and Thomas were both at the openSUSE Conference and
Bryen was at the GSoC mentor summit. So they all need a few days to
settle back at home, I guess :-)
Thanks to them! And keep in mind: you might want to run for a seat on
the board ;-)
Cheers,
Vincent

Heya all,
So, while recovering from the conference, it's a good idea to make sure what
was decided actually happens. Tip: it helps to not just write it down but
put it in a news article - that forms a nice public whip ;-)
So how about it, can I get some 'stuff' about what was decided send to me
for the final day/conference conclusions article??
:D
Hugs,
Jos
My provider has IPv6 connectivity and provides 6rd border relay for
customer that want to try it. It works similar to other IPv6 over IPv4
solutions:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPv6_rapid_deployment
So far I see many other providers have it too, so what one has to do to
have it on openSUSE, besides enabling compilation of 6rd support.
