Hello
Sorry for this late mail. I have mailed Alessandra and have been waiting for his reply. I finally found this mailing list and thought i could get some response here.
I am Bhargav, a Computer Science undergraduate student from BITS-Pilani, India. I am an avid mobile app developer. I worked on Phonegap apps during GSoC 2012 with Apache Software Foundation and have developed many Windows Phone apps. I am also well versed with native android app development. I have developed an Android app[1] for Exotel Techcom Pvt. Ltd. and it is being used by its clientele of over 2000 firms. My github account[2] will provide much more details about my developer expertise.
In your proposal please provide a link to the repository where we can find the apps you developed during GSoC 2012.
I will add the link to repo in the proposal.
In my search to find an organization that has challenging problem statements in Mobile application areas, I found openSUSE and was very much interested in the this project which requires a mobile app that syncs with ownCloud News. While I was trying to come up with a feasible solution and plan to write a good proposal, I got a few questions.
1. Could I get a look at ownCloud News API documentation?
The API is not fully documented yet (in fact it's not fully developed). Part of your proposal can also be about "wishes on the API". Here is a draft of the specification: https://github.com/owncloud/news/wiki/API
2. Why was a Phonegap app considered? It is known that Native apps are faster than Phonegap apps. But, phonegap provides us the ability of releasing multiple platforms at once. I am well versed with both native and Phonegap app development. Answering this question will help me in coming to a consensus regarding app's design.
We believe that such app (if well written, of course) will not require many resources, so it can be enough fast even on phonegap. And, as you say, phonegap will allow us to compile the app for multiple platforms. Even more important, their SDK is open source. Notice that Firefox OS (http://firefox.com/os) is also a valid alternative.
I have taken Mr. Posselt's help regarding this. You can find details of my plan on my proposal posted here (http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/proposal/review/google/gsoc2013/bhargavg/...)
Thank you for considering our project idea.
